To buy Argentine-listed construction-related shares, the high-level route is to open an account with an authorized Argentine Settlement and Clearing Agent (ALyC) that accepts clients resident in your country. BYMA identifies ALyCs as the intermediaries investors use to buy shares on its market. That does not mean every ALyC serves nonresidents: confirm eligibility, account terms, funding, taxes and withdrawals before sending money.
What counts as an Argentine construction stock?
Start by defining the exposure you want. “Construction” can mean building materials, construction and engineering, homebuilding, or a broader business connected to property. The S&P/BYMA Construcción index offers a sector-screening framework covering local listed shares classified in construction materials and products, construction and engineering, homebuilding and related GICS industries. Treat it as a way to organize research, not as proof that every constituent is a pure-play builder or that the index is an investable fund.
BYMA describes the index as float-adjusted market-cap weighted, but the information available here does not establish current constituents or weights. Verify the latest index and issuer information before relying on a particular company or classification.
Choose the instrument: local share or CEDEAR
A local Argentine share is an ownership interest in a company listed on Argentina’s market. BYMA says that only shares of public companies listed in Argentina after an initial public offering can trade on BYMA. A CEDEAR is different: it represents a foreign asset that is not listed in Argentina. It is therefore not, by that definition, a direct way to buy an Argentine company’s local share.

| Instrument | What it represents | What it means for this goal |
|---|---|---|
| Argentine-listed share | Ownership in a company listed on the Argentine market. | The direct local-market route to a listed Argentine issuer, subject to broker access and the share’s current listing and trading status. |
| CEDEAR | A receipt representing a foreign asset that is not listed in Argentina, as described by BYMA. | It does not, on that definition, provide direct ownership of an Argentine company’s local share. |
BYMA’s stocks guidance describes the listing requirement, and its CEDEARs page explains the receipt structure. CNV rules also address foreign issuers making public offerings or seeking a special double-listing route in Argentina; those rules are background on listings, not evidence that a nonresident retail investor can access a particular local share. See the CNV regulations for foreign issuers and CEDEAR/CEVA.
How to access the local market from abroad
BYMA’s investor guidance says a person buying shares must first open a client account with a Settlement and Clearing Agent (ALyC), which acts as the intermediary for buying shares on the market. The guidance establishes the local route at a high level; it does not establish that a given ALyC will onboard residents of every country or specify the documents, currencies, costs or withdrawal arrangements for your case. BYMA’s new-investor guidance explains the account step.

- Define your target exposure. Decide whether you want materials, engineering and construction, housing, or a broader property-related business.
- Build a research list. Use the S&P/BYMA Construcción categories as a screening lens, then verify current constituents, issuer classifications and listing status using current BYMA and company disclosures.
- Check nonresident eligibility with an ALyC. Contact a currently authorized intermediary and ask specifically whether it accepts clients resident in your jurisdiction and which Argentine-listed shares it can trade for them.
- Get the full account terms before funding. Ask about required documents, accepted currencies and transfer methods, minimums and fees, custody, settlement, dividends, currency conversion, withdrawals and any restrictions on moving funds across borders.
- Check tax and repatriation treatment. Ask a qualified tax professional familiar with both your residence and the relevant Argentine rules about tax, withholding and repatriation for your account structure. The answer can depend on your circumstances.
- Compare issuers using current information. Review current filings and market data before deciding whether any share suits your objectives and risk tolerance.
Companies to research, not automatic picks
BYMA’s Sustainability Index constituent list includes Holcim Argentina S.A., Loma Negra C.I.A.S.A., IRSA Inversiones y Representaciones S.A. and Ternium Argentina S.A. These are examples to investigate, not a construction-only list or a recommendation. Inclusion in a sustainability index does not establish that a company is a pure-play construction business, that its shares are currently accessible to you, or that its exposure matches your intended investment. Check BYMA’s Sustainability Index information and each issuer’s current disclosures.

- Business exposure: How directly do reported operations relate to construction, materials or housing? Check the company’s segment mix rather than relying on its name or a sector label.
- Trading and access: Is the relevant share currently listed, what is its trading liquidity, and what share class or instrument can your intermediary trade?
- Currency exposure: Where do revenue and costs arise, and how exposed are they to Argentina and foreign currencies?
- Financial capacity: What do current filings show about leverage, cash generation and capital needs?
- Investor protections and disclosure: Review governance, public disclosures and any practical limits on your access as a foreign-resident client.
The cited material does not provide current financial comparisons, valuations or a basis for ranking these companies. Use recent company filings and market data for those questions rather than inferring an investment case from index membership.

Some important details are investor- and intermediary-specific, so confirm them directly rather than assuming a standard process:
Rank #4
- Whether an authorized ALyC currently onboards residents of your country and can trade the specific shares you are considering.
- Which identity, residence, tax and source-of-funds documents are required, and whether they must be translated or certified.
- How deposits, conversions, dividends and withdrawals work, including the currencies, fees, timing and any applicable restrictions.
- How your home-country tax rules interact with Argentine tax or withholding rules for your own account and residency status.
- Whether the company’s current filings, share class, listing and trading liquidity still match your original research.
