You can’t set a universal AdSense CPC or guarantee that it will rise. Advertisers compete in an auction, and the value they place on a click depends partly on how likely it is to produce a business result. The practical goal is to improve the conditions for sustainable ad revenue, then test changes against your own reporting—not to force a higher click price.
How AdSense CPC and earnings work
AdSense selects ads through an auction. Advertisers bid for available inventory, and greater competition can increase earning potential. Google says the winning bidder is selected using the highest net bid; adjustments can affect that net bid, so the largest headline bid is not necessarily the whole story. Google AdSense Help: About the ad auction
Advertiser value also matters. Google explains that an advertiser’s maximum bid may be reduced when a click appears less likely to lead to a business result. That does not mean a publisher can directly manipulate this assessment, and normal revenue fluctuations should not be attributed to one factor alone. Google AdSense Help: About bidding on AdSense
Why your AdSense CPC may be low
A low CPC can reflect the mix of advertisers competing for your pages and the value they expect from the resulting clicks. Audience, content, traffic mix, and timing can all shape what advertisers are willing to bid. A particular niche or keyword does not guarantee a high CPC, and Google does not provide a universal CPC target that publishers can set.

No. CPC is a cost-per-click measure; RPM is estimated earnings standardized to 1,000 units of a chosen denominator. Page RPM uses page views, while Ad RPM uses ad impressions: Ad RPM = (estimated earnings ÷ ad impressions) × 1,000. RPM is a comparison metric, not the amount you actually earned. Use the corresponding metric in your report and compare the same traffic segment and period. Google AdSense Help: Revenue per thousand impressions (RPM)
How to increase AdSense earnings: a measured workflow
1. Review your account-specific opportunities
Open the Opportunities page in AdSense and review suggestions for ad settings, placements, categories, and site improvements. Some opportunities are marked as verified by experiment, meaning Google says an experiment was run on your behalf. Treat those results as evidence for your account, not a promise that the same change will work for every site. Google AdSense Help: Get ideas to improve your account performance
2. Check eligible pages have ad code
Google recommends placing AdSense code on every page where you want ads, provided the page has enough visitors and complies with policy. More coverage cannot make an ineligible page suitable for ads or guarantee stronger advertiser demand. Google AdSense Help: Optimization tips to increase your AdSense revenue
3. Test ad formats and coverage
Google recommends responsive ad units, ad-size optimization, Auto ads, and filling empty in-page ads as ways to increase coverage. It also allows a combination of ad units and search boxes on a page, provided ads do not outnumber content. More placements are not automatically better: protect readability and comply with the inventory value policy. Google AdSense Help: Increase ad coverage on your site

Blocking many ads or categories can limit the pool of ads eligible to appear and may reduce earning potential. Review the categories you have blocked and consider testing changes where they fit your content, audience, advertiser suitability, and policy obligations. Allowing every category is not automatically the right choice. Account-specific suggestions may identify blocked categories to reconsider. 5. Compare like with like
Choose a defined period and traffic segment, then compare estimated earnings alongside page RPM or Ad RPM as appropriate. Keep the RPM denominator consistent. AdSense homepage estimates are not finalized earnings and may later be adjusted, including for invalid activity; reporting and billing time zones can also differ. Avoid treating a short-term change in provisional CPC or earnings as proof of a lasting improvement. Google AdSense Help: Homepage reports: understand your earnings
As a practical measurement method, record the setting changed, the date, the pages affected, the traffic mix, and the metric you will compare. When feasible, change one material variable at a time so you can better judge what contributed to the result.

Auto ads or manual ad units?
Auto ads automate placement and format decisions; manual ad units give you more precise control over ad type, size, and location. Both approaches require policy compliance, and neither guarantees higher CPC.

How to increase earnings without risking your account
Policy compliance is a hard boundary, not an optimization variable. Never click your own ads, buy or manufacture traffic or clicks, or ask readers to click. Do not use arrows or similar devices to direct attention to ads, disguise ads as content or navigation, use misleading ad labels, or place ads disruptively, such as in pop-ups or private communications. Google may disable ad serving or an account for policy violations. Google AdSense Help: Ad placement policies · Google AdSense Help: AdSense Program policies
For the same reason, do not click an ad to test it or use bots or paid-to-click traffic. Invalid activity can also lead to earnings adjustments. Google AdSense Help: Homepage reports: understand your earnings
