You can use Facebook Live to show products and talk with buyers, but you cannot use the retired Facebook Live Shopping product-tag and playlist workflow for new events. Meta ended new and scheduled Live Shopping events on October 1, 2022. A workable sale now needs a seller-run process: present items on camera, record buyer interest, confirm orders and payment through a separate route, then reconcile inventory and fulfillment.
What a Facebook Live sale can—and cannot—do
Facebook Live is the broadcast format. Facebook Live Shopping was a separate shopping experience that let sellers feature product playlists and tag products in live videos. Meta announced that new and scheduled Live Shopping events would end on October 1, 2022; contemporaneous reporting said general Facebook Live broadcasts would continue. Do not plan a current sale around in-video product tags or native Live Shopping checkout.

That distinction changes what “manage orders in real time” means. A viewer’s comment can signal interest, but it is not a Facebook-created order, proof of payment, or confirmation that inventory has been reserved. If you accept claims in comments or messages, that is your own operating procedure—not a built-in Facebook Live claim queue. Keep buyer intent, payment, order confirmation, and fulfillment as separate steps in your process.

Choose the order and payment route before you promote the sale
Decide where the buyer will go after seeing an item. The route should let you provide accurate item details, collect payment in the way you have chosen, and confirm what happens next. Make the buyer’s steps clear before the broadcast so comments do not become an improvised checkout system.

Meta’s 2020 announcement named Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and other providers in the context of helping businesses build Shops and use commerce tools. That is historical partner context, not evidence of a current integration with Facebook Live, a guarantee of current program terms, or a recommendation to use any particular service. Choose a route based on your own needs and verify its current availability and terms.
Set up an order process that can keep pace with comments
A live sale moves quickly: several viewers may ask about one item at once, and a viewer may join after the instructions have already been given. Before you go live, settle the rules that prevent the same item from being promised twice or a buyer from mistaking interest for a completed order.
1. Make a single inventory list
Give every item a unique identifier, such as “A12” or “Blue-03.” Record the item name, price, available quantity, relevant options, and fulfillment notes. If two items look similar, use identifiers that are easy to say and distinguish on camera. Set aside a clear way to mark an item as available, claimed pending confirmation, paid, or unavailable.
These identifiers and statuses are a seller-side recordkeeping method, not a Facebook-prescribed feature. The goal is to make the item discussed aloud match the item in your notes, payment confirmation, and eventual packing or pickup.

2. Decide exactly how a buyer signals interest
Choose one primary signal and tell viewers how to use it. For example, you might ask them to comment with the item identifier and quantity, or direct them to a seller-managed order route. If you accept claims in comments, explain what counts as a valid claim and how you will resolve simultaneous claims. Do not promise “first come, first served” unless you can reliably determine which qualifying claim came first and apply that rule consistently.
Set a deadline or next step for a pending claim. For example, you can tell a buyer how and when you will send confirmation instructions, and when an unconfirmed item may return to available inventory. The precise rule is yours; Facebook’s cited materials do not document a native Live claim queue or a platform-defined reservation period.
3. Define when a sale is actually complete
Write down the difference between an expression of interest, a pending order, a paid order, and an order ready for fulfillment. A comment, verbal promise, or message should not be recorded as paid. Mark an order complete only after your own payment and confirmation steps are finished. Tell buyers what those steps are, and avoid asking anyone to post payment-card or other sensitive payment details in public comments.
4. Assign a moderator and prepare the instructions
If possible, ask a trusted person to manage comments while you present products. Facebook documents Page community-manager controls for live chat that include pinning a comment, deleting or reporting comments, and suspending or banning users. A moderator can keep the current instructions visible, answer routine process questions, and flag claims for you to verify while you stay on camera.
Prepare a short instruction comment in advance. It should say how to identify an item, how to place an order, where payment takes place, and how buyers will receive confirmation. Pin it when useful, then repeat the essentials aloud for viewers who arrive late. Keep the payment process off public comments.

5. Prepare a ledger before the stream
Use a spreadsheet, notebook, or other private record you can update without losing track of the broadcast. Include only the information you need to identify and complete an order. A practical set of columns is:

- Fulfillment status: for example, pickup or shipping arranged, packed, or handed over.
This ledger is a seller-managed tool, not an order system supplied by Facebook Live. Keep it private and do not expose buyer details while streaming. For a small sale, a well-organized sheet may be enough; if you use an order-management tool, verify that it fits your route and that you can reconcile it with the inventory list.
Run the broadcast without losing track of orders
Open with the rules, not just the products
At the start, explain that the broadcast is for product demonstrations and questions, and tell viewers where the actual order and payment steps happen. State the claim method, how you will handle competing claims, and how buyers receive confirmation. Mention that a comment alone does not complete an order. This gives viewers a fair chance to understand the process before an item appears.
Present each item in a repeatable sequence
For each product, say its identifier and price before inviting claims. Show the item clearly, describe the relevant options, and state the quantity you believe is available. If availability changes, correct it promptly and update the ledger. Repeat the claim instructions after presenting the item and periodically for viewers who joined midstream.
Keep descriptions precise. If a product has variants, say which one is being offered and how the buyer should specify a choice. Do not let an ambiguous description such as “the one on the left” become the only identifier in your notes. The spoken identifier should match the product list and the order confirmation.

Let the moderator manage the comment flow
Agree on a simple handoff signal with your moderator. They can watch for item identifiers, flag possible duplicate or competing claims, pin the order instructions, and handle routine questions. You can pause briefly to verify availability rather than promising an item while the ledger is unclear.
Use the documented Page moderation controls for the situations they cover: the community manager can pin a useful comment, remove or report a disruptive comment, and suspend or ban a user. Those are moderation controls, not order-management tools. A moderator should not mark an order paid based only on a public comment; payment confirmation belongs in the seller’s chosen process.
Update status as the sale progresses
When a valid claim arrives, record it promptly and apply your stated rule. If the item is pending, say so rather than describing it as sold. Once you verify the buyer’s next step and payment according to your process, update the status. If the order falls through under your stated rules, record that change before offering the item again.
Do not collect payment details in the live comments. Direct buyers to the route you announced, and use that route to confirm the amount and item. If you cannot verify a claim or payment while presenting, tell the viewer when you will follow up rather than guessing in front of the audience.

After the broadcast: reconcile, confirm, and fulfill
Match claims against stock
Review the ledger against the inventory list before making final promises. Check identifiers, quantities, competing claims, and any item that was shown but not sold. Mark confirmed orders and remaining stock separately so a pending inquiry is not accidentally counted as a completed sale.

Send a clear order confirmation
Use the route you announced to tell each buyer what item and quantity are being confirmed, what amount is due or has been received, and what happens next. Give a realistic pickup or delivery plan and a route for order questions. If a claim could not be confirmed, explain the status rather than leaving the buyer to infer that a comment secured the item.
Record payment and fulfillment separately
Keep the payment status distinct from the fulfillment status. A paid order may still be awaiting pickup or shipment; a claim may still be unpaid and unconfirmed. Recording each stage gives you a way to resolve buyer questions and spot discrepancies between what was requested, what was paid for, and what was handed over.
Facebook Help lists shipping as a possible selling option depending on location. Do not advertise shipping as universally available; verify what applies to your account and location, and communicate the actual delivery or pickup arrangement to each buyer.
Close the books on the sale
After fulfillment, reconcile the final order record against payments and inventory. Keep receipts, order confirmations, and expense records in the system you ordinarily use for your business or personal records. Tax and consumer obligations depend on your situation and location, so use applicable local guidance rather than treating a Facebook comment or platform label as a substitute for your own records.
Common problems and how to prevent them
- Two viewers claim the same one-off item. Apply the rule you announced, check the recorded claim time if relevant, and tell the other viewer whether the item is pending or unavailable. Do not quietly change the rule after a conflict.
- A buyer thinks a comment means the item is theirs. Clarify that the comment records interest only under your process. Confirm the item and next payment step directly through the route you announced.
- The comment feed moves too quickly. Pause new claims briefly, repeat the identifier, or ask the moderator to help reconcile comments against the ledger. Do not keep accepting claims faster than you can accurately record them.
- A product has multiple versions. Give each variant a distinct identifier or require the buyer to state the option. Confirm the selected version before payment and fulfillment.
- A viewer asks where to check out inside the video. Explain that the retired Live Shopping product tags and playlists are not the current workflow, then direct the viewer to your chosen selling route.
- A buyer pays but the record still says pending. Verify the payment through the route you use, update the ledger, and send an order confirmation. Do not rely on a screenshot or public comment alone as a substitute for your own verification.
- A moderator removes a comment that contained a claim. Keep a process for checking flagged claims or direct messages before releasing the item. Moderation actions can affect what remains visible in chat, so do not make the comment feed your only order record.
- A buyer expects shipping everywhere. State delivery choices conditionally, confirm what is possible for your location and selling route, and offer pickup only if you can actually support it.
Keep platform announcements in their proper context
Meta’s August 2022 explanation for ending Live Shopping, as quoted in contemporaneous reporting, said its focus was shifting toward short-form video on Facebook and Instagram. That announcement helps explain the product change; it does not establish a new shopping or checkout feature in Facebook Live.
Meta separately announced in 2022 that qualified small businesses could discuss products, request and collect payment, and let buyers track orders in Instagram messaging. That is an Instagram messaging example, not a Facebook Live order feature or proof that the option is currently available to every business. Likewise, historical commerce-platform partnerships do not demonstrate a present-day Live integration. Verify current options in the account and region where you plan to sell.
