To get Starlink, enter the exact service address on Starlink’s availability map, review the plans and kit offered for that address, and order through the current Starlink account flow. Before ordering, use the Starlink app to check for a clear view of the sky and decide whether you need fixed-address Residential service or travel-oriented Roam service. Availability, plan names, prices, equipment offers, and activation options vary by market and address.
How do I get Starlink internet?
The practical path is to verify the service address first, then choose a plan, confirm the kit is offered, and check the installation location before committing to equipment or accessories. Starlink’s availability map is the starting point: enter the address where the service will actually be used and review the options presented there. A country-level coverage statement cannot confirm that a particular home can order service.

- Enter the intended service address. Use the availability map and the address where you expect to install the dish. Check the map’s result and the plans displayed for that location.
- Choose the service type. Residential is for a fixed land-based household location. Roam is the travel-oriented category. Their use restrictions differ, so match the plan to where you need service rather than choosing by name or price alone.
- Confirm an eligible kit is offered. On Starlink’s Standard Kit page, enter the service address and select “Order now” to check availability and proceed through the current order flow.
- Check the installation site. Use the Starlink app’s obstruction or location tool to assess sky visibility before deciding where the dish will go.
- Review the current order terms and costs. Plan pricing and offerings vary by address and can change. Confirm the displayed monthly price, equipment offer, and any other terms before placing an order.
- Install and activate using the account instructions. Follow the instructions supplied for your order and market; activation options can differ in capacity-constrained areas.
Starlink says it serves “150+ countries, territories, and other markets,” but this is a broad company coverage statement, not confirmation that a particular address can place an order. The address-level map is the relevant check.

Availability is determined at the service-address level. Enter the complete intended address on the official availability map rather than relying on a country list, a nearby town’s result, or someone else’s service experience. The map distinguishes availability now from areas where coverage or regulatory approval is pending. Local network capacity can also affect whether an order can proceed immediately.

If the map says service is available
Review the plans shown for the address and continue through the order flow to verify the kit and service options actually offered. Do not assume that a plan described in another country, or even elsewhere in the same country, is available to you. Starlink says Standard Kits are available to Residential, Roam, Business, and Enterprise customers in supported markets, but the address and order flow determine what is available in an individual case.
If coverage or approval is pending
A pending result is not the same as an orderable connection today. Check the status and instructions shown by Starlink for that address rather than relying on an estimated date or on a broad coverage map. The underlying constraint may be coverage or regulatory approval.
If the area is at capacity
Starlink’s activation help information describes cases where an order may allow a deposit when an area is at capacity and also describes a Roam activation path in some capacity situations. These are conditional options, not guaranteed workarounds. Follow the current account and order flow for the address; do not place a deposit or select a different service type on the assumption that it will automatically provide Residential service there.
Starlink also cautions that the country selected on its site should match the country used to register the account, or activation may fail. If an order or activation screen presents a country selection, use the country appropriate to the service address and account registration as directed by the current Starlink flow.
Which Starlink plan should you choose?
Choose based first on whether the connection will remain at one home or move with you. Residential is designed for a fixed land-based household location and is associated with the registered service address. Roam is the category Starlink identifies for travel. Plan names, speed tiers, priority, eligibility, and pricing differ by region and address, so use the offer shown for your location rather than treating any example as a global menu.
| Plan category | Best fit | Address and travel considerations | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Residential | A household using Starlink at one fixed land-based location | Service is tied to the registered address; it does not support roaming or in-motion use. | Residential plans include unlimited data, according to Starlink’s Help Center. Eligibility, plan names, speeds, priority, and offers vary by region and address. |
| Roam | People who need Starlink while traveling or at changing locations | Starlink says a Roam plan is required to use service at a different address or while traveling. Destination, coastal, and in-motion restrictions apply and should be checked for the specific market and trip. | Roam plans and allowances vary by market. The official UK plan page showed 100GB and Unlimited options at the access date described below. |
Residential plan names and speed tiers are local
Starlink’s Residential Help Center describes Max, 200 Mbps, and 100 Mbps tiers in listed markets, with different speed caps and priority. Other markets may instead show Residential and Residential Lite. Those labels are not a universal lineup, and a tier’s stated cap is not a guarantee that every user will experience that speed at all times. Check the specific terms shown for your address.
Starlink says all Residential plans include unlimited data. That statement applies to Residential plans as described by the Help Center; it should not be extended to Roam or to other service categories without checking their terms.

A dated UK price example
At access on October 11, 2026, Starlink’s UK plan page listed the following monthly prices. These are a geographic, time-specific example—not a current quote for another country or a promise that UK prices remain unchanged.
| UK plan shown at access | Monthly price shown | Simple 12-month equivalent at that same rate |
|---|---|---|
| Residential 100 Mbps | £40/month | £480 |
| Residential 200 Mbps | £60/month | £720 |
| Residential Max | £80/month | £960 |
| Roam 100GB | £55/month | £660 |
| Roam Unlimited | £100/month | £1,200 |
The 12-month figures are arithmetic based on the listed monthly amounts staying unchanged for all 12 months; they are not a quote or a forecast. The cited plan information does not establish equipment charges, taxes, shipping, installation costs, or other fees for every order. Check the final order summary for the actual total before buying.
Compare the full use case, not just the monthly amount
A lower monthly price may be the wrong choice if the plan’s location rules do not match how you intend to use the service. For a permanent home, compare the Residential options offered at that address and consider their displayed speed tier and priority. For frequent travel, check the Roam allowance, destination availability, and restrictions relevant to your routes. Do not assume Residential can be carried to a second home or used in motion.
What equipment do I need for Starlink?
The relevant product for many new customers is the Starlink Standard Kit. Starlink’s installation materials list these items in the Standard box:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Starlink
- Kickstand
- Router 3
- Starlink cable
- AC cable
- Power supply
The included kickstand supports a ground-level installation or a quick test. It does not mean every roof, wall, or pole installation is covered by the included hardware. A permanent elevated installation may require a separate mount and a cable-routing accessory. Select accessories only after checking the structure, the intended cable route, and compatibility with the exact kit offered for your address.
Decide whether you need a permanent mount
A ground-level test can help you evaluate a candidate location before drilling, routing cable through a wall, or buying a mount. If the ground-level position has obstructions, the app’s site check can help you assess other locations. For a roof, wall, or pole installation, the appropriate mount depends on the mounting surface and hardware compatibility; the general category of accessory alone is not enough to confirm a fit.
Starlink says certified professional installers are available for difficult or unusual installations. If you use an installer, confirm that the person is suitable for your location and that the proposed work matches your kit and site. Starlink’s installation information establishes that installers are available, not a particular referral arrangement or price.

How do I set up Starlink?
Starlink describes the process as self-installation. The key siting decision comes before making the installation permanent: the dish needs a clear view of the sky, and obstructions such as branches, poles, and roofs can interrupt service. Starlink’s Standard Install Guide illustrates an approximate 110-degree sky view and 20-degree elevation angle for the Standard kit. Treat those figures as guide-specific placement advice, not a guarantee of performance at every property.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Use the Starlink app to assess the site. Open its obstruction or location tool and check candidate positions before settling on a mount. Consider whether nearby branches, rooflines, poles, or other structures intrude into the view.
- Choose a temporary test position where practical. The included kickstand is intended to support a ground-level setup or quick test. Use it to evaluate a clear candidate location before committing to an elevated permanent installation.
- Place the dish with sky visibility in mind. Follow the app and installation guide for positioning. A location that appears open from one angle may still have obstructions in the dish’s required view.
- Connect the Starlink cable to the router. Use the supplied cable and follow the kit’s connection instructions.
- Connect the power supply and AC cable. Follow the included instructions and the prompts in the Starlink app or account flow.
- Place the router centrally in the home. Starlink recommends a central position to improve Wi-Fi coverage around the home.
- Complete the account’s activation or setup instructions. The exact steps depend on the order and market. If activation is unavailable or the order is constrained, use the account instructions for that address rather than assuming a different plan will resolve it.
Starlink’s guide stresses the importance of clear sky because satellites move overhead; an obstruction can cause interruptions even when the equipment is connected and powered. A successful initial connection therefore does not by itself prove that a marginal site will remain interruption-free.
Can I use Starlink while traveling?
Starlink identifies Roam as its travel-oriented service category. Residential is intended for the registered fixed address and does not support roaming or in-motion use. If you want to take service to another location, check whether Roam is offered and verify the restrictions for the country, destination, coastal area, or type of movement involved. The fact that Roam is designed for travel does not establish that service will be available at every destination or while moving.
Before choosing a travel plan, review the current plan details in the market where the account is registered and consider the exact way you will use it. For example, a traveler who needs stationary service at a changing location should not infer permission for in-motion use. Likewise, do not assume Residential can be moved between a primary home and a second property simply because both are in the same country.

Starlink’s local offers and setup requirements can affect the total commitment beyond the monthly plan figure. The following checks help prevent an order that is technically available but unsuitable for the intended home or travel use.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Service address: Confirm the map and order use the exact address where the dish will be installed.
- Plan fit: Verify whether the displayed plan is fixed-address Residential or travel-oriented Roam, and read restrictions relevant to your use.
- Current price: Use the price in the address-specific order flow, not a price from another region or a dated example.
- Initial equipment offer: Confirm which kit is included or available and inspect the order summary for applicable costs.
- Site suitability: Run the app’s obstruction check before buying permanent mounting hardware.
- Installation needs: Decide whether the supplied kickstand is enough for a test or whether the site requires an additional compatible mount and cable-routing accessory.
- Account country: Follow Starlink’s instruction that the site’s selected country match the country used to register the account, where applicable.
- Activation status: If the address is pending or capacity-constrained, rely on the actual account flow and its conditional instructions rather than an assumed activation date.
Common problems and what to do
The address appears covered, but no suitable plan or kit is offered
Coverage-map status and order eligibility are not interchangeable. Recheck the exact service address and review the options presented in the order flow. Plan eligibility and the Standard Kit offer can vary by market and address.
The map shows pending coverage or approval
Do not treat a pending result as immediate service. Follow the status and next steps shown for that address. A general statement about Starlink’s presence in many markets does not override the local map result.

- This is not Starlink. You will not receive a warranty with this bundle created by an outside seller.
Activation does not proceed
Check that the account country selection is consistent with the service country as Starlink instructs. If the location is at capacity, consult the current account guidance about any deposit or conditional Roam activation option. Neither option should be presumed available in every case.
The connection is interrupted after installation
Review the app’s obstruction information and reassess the location. Branches, poles, and roof edges can interrupt service; power and network setup alone cannot compensate for a blocked sky view. If the site needs an elevated position, verify mount and cable compatibility before making a permanent change.
Wi-Fi coverage is weak in part of the home
Starlink recommends placing the router centrally in the home for better Wi-Fi coverage. Reconsider its location before assuming the dish’s outdoor position is the cause.
Is Starlink a sensible household internet cost?
Whether Starlink is financially sensible depends on the offer at the exact address, the suitable plan, and any installation or equipment costs shown in the order. The available facts here do not establish a universal kit price, tax treatment, installation charge, contract length, cancellation rule, or other fee. Those details should be checked in the actual checkout and account terms before committing.
For a household budget, separate the recurring plan amount from one-time or optional setup costs. The monthly plan price is only one part of the decision if the site needs a permanent mount, cable-routing work, or professional installation. Conversely, if the included kickstand provides a suitable test position and the site is unobstructed, an elevated mount may not be needed. Do not purchase accessories until you know the installation layout and compatibility.
Use the locally displayed plan terms to compare service needs: a fixed home has different rules from a mobile or changing-location use case, and the listed Residential speed tiers and priority differ by market. A UK price example is useful only as a dated illustration; it is not a basis for estimating the bill in another region. The amount in the current order summary is the relevant figure for your decision.
