Amazon Vine is an invitation-based program that lets selected reviewers request eligible products free of charge; it is not described as a cash-paying review job. Paid creator work and affiliate links can earn money, but they are separate from Amazon’s customer-review system.
Does Amazon pay reviewers?
No. Amazon’s Community Guidelines say customers may share authentic opinions, but may not create, edit, or remove a review in exchange for compensation. Amazon says, “Accepting free products or compensation directly from sellers or brands in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited.”

The restriction is about the exchange, not whether the reviewer promises to be fair. A cash payment, refund, discount, free product, gift card, warranty, or service offered in return for an Amazon review is still a benefit tied to that review. Calling it an “honest review” does not make the arrangement acceptable.
Amazon’s policy applies even when the offer or review arrangement happens outside Amazon, such as through social media, a review club, or a message from a seller. Benefits conditioned on writing a review can include reimbursement after posting, future free or discounted products, or continued club membership. Seller Central guidance also identifies review-related monitoring and incentives included in packaging as policy concerns; its cited inappropriate-review guidance specifies US scope: Amazon Seller Central: Customer product reviews.

What Amazon Vine offers—and what it does not
Amazon Vine is the official free-product route for selected reviewers. Amazon describes Vine Voices as invited reviewers who can request eligible products enrolled in the program and then share honest, unbiased opinions. Amazon identifies the resulting posts with the label “Vine Customer Review of a free product.”
Vine provides product access, not established cash pay. Amazon’s Vine program page describes free products for reviewers and seller-side enrollment, but does not say that reviewers receive cash compensation. Program participation is by invitation, and product availability depends on what is eligible and available to request. The page’s seller requirements and fees concern sellers, not reviewer earnings.

Do not treat an invitation, a particular product, or ongoing access as guaranteed income. Amazon does not publish a typical Vine reviewer income or acceptance rate in the cited program information.
How legitimate paid product content differs
You can earn from product-related content outside Amazon’s customer-review feature. For example, a brand might pay a creator to make a sponsored demonstration, testimonial, or user-generated-content (UGC) asset for the brand’s own channels. That is a creator service or endorsement, not payment for an Amazon customer review. A contract or disclosure does not authorize posting an incentivized review on Amazon.

Disclosures should be easy to notice and close to the endorsement. FTC guidance also warns that a review platform may prohibit incentivized or connected reviews even when a disclosure is present, so check the destination’s rules before accepting an assignment. How affiliate links can earn commissions
Affiliate marketing is another separate model: a publisher may earn a commission when someone makes a qualifying purchase through a tracked link, subject to that affiliate program’s terms. The commission is tied to purchases through the link, not to submitting an Amazon review.
Disclose the financial relationship clearly. The FTC says “paid link” placed next to an affiliate link can communicate that the publisher is paid; “affiliate link” by itself may not make that clear to consumers. The FTC’s guidance on disclosures for social media influencers explains how to make disclosures understandable and noticeable.

What the FTC rule changes—and what it does not
In the United States, the FTC’s Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule took effect on October 21, 2024. It addresses specified deceptive conduct involving reviews and testimonials, including fake or false reviews and incentives conditioned on a particular review sentiment. FTC staff guidance says an incentive is not automatically barred by that rule when it is not conditioned on sentiment, but disclosure duties and other laws may still apply. The rule does not override Amazon’s stricter platform policy: a review benefit Amazon prohibits does not become acceptable just because a reviewer discloses it or promises a positive or negative opinion. - Ask what the benefit is tied to. If money, a product, a refund, a discount, or another benefit depends on posting, changing, or removing an Amazon review, do not accept the arrangement.
- Do not rely on a disclaimer. Saying the review will be honest, adding a disclosure, or receiving the offer through a third party does not remove Amazon’s prohibition.
- Separate the work from the review. A paid brand video or UGC asset can be a distinct assignment outside Amazon, but do not convert that assignment into a compensated Amazon customer review.
- Check the destination’s rules. If content will appear on a platform, site, or marketplace, confirm that its policies allow the arrangement before agreeing to publish there.
- Do not budget around unverified earnings. The cited sources establish no typical reviewer pay, income range, or guaranteed Vine access.
