How do you get free money on Cash App?
There are three legitimate possibilities: a qualifying referral bonus, personalized offers in the app, and official Cash App giveaways. Each has its own eligibility rules and may require an action, such as linking a payment method, making a qualifying transaction, activating an offer, or entering a promotion. Availability and terms can change, so treat an offer as real only when you can verify it through Cash App or an official, verified channel.

Referral bonus: complete the required steps
Cash App disclosures effective April 16, 2026, and updated April 17, 2026, describe a $10 referral bonus subject to conditions. A new user must download Cash App, enter a one-time referral code, link a new debit card or bank account and keep it linked until payment, then send $5 to another Cash App account within 14 days after entering the code. The recipient account cannot belong to or be linked to the new user. If eligible, the bonus is paid within 30 days after all requirements are completed. Review the current referral terms and the offer shown in the app, because the terms may change.
For users aged 13–17, the disclosure describes an alternate route involving ordering and activating a Cash App Card with a parent or guardian as sponsor. Check the current terms for the requirements that apply to the young user and sponsor. This is not a payment simply for opening an account: it requires a new linked payment method and a qualifying $5 send, or the stated alternate route for eligible teens.

Offers shown in your Cash App account
Cash App says offers may be customized; customers may see different offers, and availability can vary with location and transaction history. Each offer has its own eligibility and transaction rules. Some require activation before purchase or a particular checkout method, and Cash App may remove an offer before its estimated expiration. Read the Offers terms and the offer details in your account. Do not make a purchase just because you expect a reward unless the terms make clear that your transaction qualifies.
Official giveaways and sweepstakes
Cash App says it announces giveaways on cash.app or through verified accounts. Confirm that a promotion has accessible official rules, then check its eligibility, location, deadline, entry method, prize, and any supply limits. For example, Cash App’s September 2026 QR-code promotion offered a chance to receive limited $20 rewards through five QR codes at select New York City locations, revealed through its official TikTok account while supplies lasted. That was a particular time- and place-limited promotion, not a general way to earn money.

- Double check if the URL/website is genuine before entering card details online. Do not provide any gift card details (example: claim code) to someone you do not know or trust. There are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- If you believe that your Card has been lost or stolen, notify Mastercard immediately by calling 1-833-791-7288. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Mastercard Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted, including online. Your Amazon.com Balance cannot be used to purchase Mastercard gift cards.
Some promotions provide a no-purchase entry route, but the terms apply only to that promotion. The official rules for Cash App’s Cash Apples Sweepstakes, effective February 28, 2026, state: “NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN A PRIZE IN THIS SWEEPSTAKES.” Read those Cash Apples Sweepstakes rules rather than assuming the same entry conditions apply to another giveaway.
Are Cash App giveaways real?
Some are real, but scammers also impersonate Cash App or claim that someone has won. Cash App’s August 4, 2026 giveaway guidance says it announces giveaways only on its official website or through verified accounts. Navigate to cash.app or the verified account yourself instead of trusting an unsolicited message or its link. A real promotion should have rules you can check; urgency, lookalike domains, or requests for a fee are warning signs.

- To access your card information safely, type the complete website address shown on your Gift Card (MyGift.GiftCardMall.com) directly into your browser's address bar. Don't use search engines or shortened versions of the website address, as these may lead you to fake or fraudulent sites. Do not provide any Gift Card details (example: Card Number) to someone you do not know or trust. If you believe you've reached an illegitimate website, contact cardholder service at 1-888-524-1283. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
Cash App’s survey guidance says it may occasionally conduct market research and giveaways, but will not ask for a sign-in code, PIN, or payment to participate. A survey or giveaway that asks for those things is not a safe way to claim a reward.

- Source: Is the offer visible in your Cash App account or published on cash.app or a verified Cash App account?
- Eligibility: Do its age, location, account, and other restrictions include you?
- Required action: Does it require a qualifying transfer, linked account, purchase, activation, or other step?
- Reward and timing: What is the reward, when must you qualify, and when does the offer say it will be paid?
- Availability: Is the offer still active, and is it limited by time or remaining supply?
- Requests for information or money: Does anyone ask for a password, PIN, sign-in code, or fee? Stop if they do.
For in-app offers, the terms may depend on your account and transaction history. For giveaways, verify the official rules and channel. Do not spend money or disclose sensitive information based on a promise of a future reward.

Its guidance says it will not ask for your sign-in code, PIN, or payment to participate. Treat a survey as suspicious if it requests sensitive sign-in details, charges a participation or processing fee, or comes from an account you cannot verify. Check Cash App’s survey and scam guidance and do not rely on a message’s claims alone.

What to do if you responded to a scam
- Stop communicating and do not send more money or information. Do not use links or phone numbers in the suspicious message.
- Report the account or message to the platform where it appeared and report the scam to the FTC.
- Change your passwords and monitor your accounts for suspicious activity.
- Contact your bank if you shared banking details or believe your bank account is at risk.
- Contact Cash App through its official support route for help with your account.
