To get an official Delaware certificate, request one from the Delaware Division of Corporations through its Document Filing and Certificate Request Service or submit a written request. First confirm which document the recipient accepts: Delaware lists a $50 short-form Certificate of Status and a $175 long-form Certificate of Good Standing. The online entity-status lookup is not a certified certificate.

Choose the certificate the recipient requires

Ask the bank, government office, business counterparty, or other recipient whether it requires a short-form Certificate of Status or a long-form Certificate of Good Standing. Delaware describes the short form as stating the entity’s name and status at issuance. The long form includes filed-document history and the dates and times of filings, name changes, and status at issuance. A recipient may also have its own requirements for additional certification or delivery; confirm those before ordering.

Delaware’s Accessing Corporate Information page also offers online entity-status information. That service is distinct from an official certificate: the state’s FAQ says, “Please note that this is not a good standing certificate, certified by the Secretary of State.” If the recipient requires a certified certificate, order the certificate itself.

Compare the available options and listed fees

Option What it provides Listed fee When it may fit
Online entity-status information Entity status; the detailed lookup includes current franchise-tax assessment and filing history. It is not a certified certificate. $10 basic or $20 detailed per entity Preliminary information when no official certificate is required.
Short-form Certificate of Status Entity name and status at issuance. $50 per certificate When the recipient accepts the short form.
Long-form Certificate of Good Standing Filed-document history, dates and times, name changes, and status at issuance. $175 per certificate When the recipient asks for a detailed or long-form certificate.
Expedited processing Faster processing for an underlying request; it does not replace the certificate fee. Varies by tier When a deadline warrants the added cost and the state confirms availability.

These are the fees and descriptions listed on Delaware’s official pages checked October 8, 2026. Fees and conditions can change, so verify the current amounts and total due before submitting an order.

Submit the request

Option 1: Use the online request service

  1. Open the Division’s Document Filing and Certificate Request Service.
  2. Enter the certificate request and entity details, select any expedited service if needed, and follow the service’s current payment instructions.
  3. Submit the request and retain its confirmation or reference information for follow-up.

The portal is a way to submit a request, not an instant certificate generator. Delaware says payment is applied when the order is processed, rather than necessarily at the time of submission. The portal is posted as available Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m.–11:59 p.m., and Friday, 7:45 a.m.–10:30 p.m. Eastern time. It is unavailable on weekends, state holidays, and during unexpected closures. These are portal hours, not a promise of issuance during that period.

Option 2: Send a written request

  1. Use Delaware’s Certification Request Memo or write on company letterhead.
  2. Identify the entity and specify the certificate requested. Include the submitter’s name, mailing address, and contact details such as a phone number and email address. State whether you are requesting expedited service.
  3. Follow the Division’s current payment and mailing instructions. Delaware lists the express-mail street address as Division of Corporations, John G. Townsend Building, 401 Federal Street, Suite 4, Dover, DE 19901; verify the right address for your delivery method before sending.

For a check, Delaware says it must be payable to “Delaware Secretary of State,” drawn on a U.S. bank, and payable in U.S. funds. The state’s guidance says credit-card payment for mailed or walk-in orders is not accepted; use the electronic service for card payment. Check current instructions for your chosen route.

Consider expedited service only if the deadline justifies it

Delaware lists one-hour, two-hour, same-day, and next-day expedited processing options for corporate requests, with additional fees. The applicable charge and deadline depend on the tier. These are processing targets subject to the state’s qualifications; errors and heavy workloads can cause delays. Review the current Expedited Services information or call the Division before relying on a deadline. If you have already submitted a regular request, Delaware says you may ask whether it can be upgraded to expedited service.

Plan for processing and delivery

Delaware does not give a fixed standard turnaround in the cited guidance. Its FAQ states: “Processing time for regular (non-expedited) work varies based upon the volume of items received by our office.” If timing matters, contact the Division to ask which processing date it is currently handling rather than assuming a standard wait.

Requests and returns sent by mail use postal delivery unless you provide a FedEx or UPS account number for express return. The Division says it cannot return requests by fax or email, so allow for mail transit in addition to processing time.
