How to Find the Ex-Dividend Date, Book Closure Date and Payment Status for a Pakistan-Listed Stock

A practical guide to locating Pakistan-listed dividend dates on PSX, understanding ex-entitlement timing under T+1 settlement and tracing a missing bank credit.

For a Pakistan-listed stock, use the issuer’s own dividend and book-closure announcement on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) as the controlling document. The PSX Data Portal helps you locate that filing; the notice supplies the action-specific dates and conditions. To confirm whether money reached you, check the designated bank account and then the broker, CDC participant or share registrar channel that services your holding. A public announcement can confirm that a company declared or dispatched a dividend, but it cannot prove that a particular investor’s account was credited.

Do not treat the book-closure period, ex-dividend (ex-entitlement) trading date, entitlement cut-off and payment date as interchangeable. They answer different questions and may appear in different parts of the filing.

What each date means

Start by identifying the event you are trying to verify. A single dividend announcement can contain several dates, each with a different practical consequence.

Term What it tells you Where to verify it
Book closure date or period The start and end of the period during which the company closes its share-transfer books for the stated corporate action. The issuer’s dividend and closure-of-share-transfer-books notice filed through PSX.
Ex-dividend or ex-entitlement date The first trading date on which a ready-delivery purchase does not carry the stated dividend entitlement, as shown for that action. The issuer action details and the applicable PSX trading or corporate-action information.
Entitlement or transfer cut-off A deadline for a transfer, receipt of documents or other condition used to establish who is entitled. It can be earlier than the visible book-closure interval. The detailed issuer notice, not a generic calendar.
Declaration date The date on which the dividend is announced or declared by the company’s authorised body. The announcement header and the issuer’s resolution or notice.
Payment or credit date The date the company says payment was made or dispatched, which is not necessarily the date your bank posts the credit. The company’s payment or dispatch notice, your bank statement and your broker, CDC or registrar record.

Eligibility depends on the conditions in the particular corporate action. A general market rule or an old article cannot replace the latest notice for the company and dividend you are checking.

Find the company announcement on PSX

The PSX Data Portal is the starting point for a current filing. Search by the listed company’s legal name or trading symbol, then narrow the results to the corporate-action information rather than relying on an unofficial dividend calendar.

  1. Open the PSX Data Portal and search the company name or ticker.
  2. Select Company Announcements or Financial Announcements. The portal also provides a Payouts destination, which can help you locate dividend-related records.
  3. Sort or scan for the newest filing that mentions a cash dividend, interim or final dividend, closure of share-transfer books, entitlement or a revised schedule.
  4. Check whether a later filing supersedes an earlier one. A revised closure period or corrected notice is the document you should use.
  5. Open the underlying issuer announcement and any attached notice. The summary row may identify a dividend and a closure period, while the attachment contains the operative dates, transfer cut-offs and shareholder-information requirements.
  6. Save the announcement date, the dividend type and amount if relevant, the book-closure start and end dates, the stated ex-entitlement information, any transfer-receipt cut-off and the payment instructions.

The PSX financial-announcements table is useful for locating an event, but the issuer’s complete notice controls the details. Do not infer a personal entitlement from a headline, a third-party calendar or a social-media repost.

Read the issuer notice line by line

Confirm the event and dividend type

First verify that the notice concerns the dividend you are researching. Companies may publish several actions close together, such as an interim dividend, a final dividend, a bonus issue or a right issue. Record the exact wording, because a payment-status query for one action should not be mixed with another.

Record both ends of the book-closure period

Write down the opening and closing dates exactly as printed. A period is not the same thing as a single record date. If the notice uses a phrase such as closure of the share-transfer books, preserve that wording in your notes and do not relabel the period as the ex-dividend date.

Look for an earlier transfer or document cut-off

An issuer can specify that transfers, forms or shareholder information must be received by an earlier date. The interval shown in a summary table may therefore be later than the practical deadline for a particular transfer or document. Treat every cut-off in the full notice as a separate field.

Check shareholder-information conditions

Notices can require a valid CNIC or NTN and an International Bank Account Number (IBAN), or give different submission routes depending on how the shares are held. Read whether the information must be sent to the registrar, through a CDC participant or through a broker. Missing information can delay or withhold payment even when the shareholder is otherwise entitled.

Check for a payment or dispatch update

A later company filing may state that a dividend was dispatched, processed or paid. That is evidence about the company’s action, not proof that your bank has credited the funds. Keep the dispatch statement with your personal account and broker records when investigating a missing payment.

How to identify the ex-dividend date under current settlement rules

Do not calculate the ex-date by applying an old T+2 formula. NCCPL states that eligible PSX trades have been settled on a T+1 cycle since February 9, 2026. That change affects settlement timing, but it does not create a universal ex-date for every dividend.

The PSX regulations provide the operative relationship: a ready-delivery contract is declared on an ex-entitlement basis at least one settlement day before the book-closure start date. The actual action may be displayed in the company notice, the exchange’s action details or the trading calendar. Use the published date for the specific dividend rather than counting calendar days yourself.

  1. Take the book-closure start date from the latest issuer notice.
  2. Find the corresponding ex-entitlement or ex-dividend date in the PSX action information.
  3. Check that the relationship is consistent with the current rule requiring the ready-delivery contract to be ex-entitlement at least one settlement day before closure begins.
  4. Account for exchange holidays and the applicable trading calendar; a weekend or holiday is not a settlement day.
  5. If the notice and another screen disagree, look for a revised issuer filing and confirm the date with the exchange or your broker before trading for the dividend.

The T+1 transition is a market-settlement fact, not permission to substitute a formula for the date published for the action. An investor deciding whether a purchase carries the dividend should rely on the current ex-entitlement information for that security and event.

How to check whether the dividend was paid

Start with the designated bank account

For a listed-company cash dividend, PSX’s Shareholders’ Rights Guide says payment is made electronically directly into the bank account designated by the entitled shareholder. Review the account you supplied for dividends, including statements covering the company’s stated payment or dispatch date and the following banking days. Search by the company name, registrar or a dividend description rather than only by the exact amount, because bank narrations vary.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Match the account to the holding route

Book-entry shares are serviced through the relevant broker or CDC participant. Ask that intermediary to confirm the registered bank details, the quantity of shares recorded for the action and whether a dividend advice or credit instruction was received. A mismatch between your current account and the account recorded for the holding can explain an absent credit.

For physical certificates, follow the registrar route identified in the issuer’s notice. The registrar may require identification, an updated bank mandate and supporting documents before releasing or reprocessing payment. Do not send sensitive documents to an address that does not appear in the company or registrar instructions.

Check the company’s payment evidence

Compare your statement with any payment, dispatch or unpaid-dividend notice filed by the issuer. If the company says payment was processed but your account shows nothing, ask the broker, CDC participant, registrar or bank to trace the transaction using the shareholder account and dividend reference. If the company has not issued a payment update, ask when the action was approved and whether your bank information was complete.

How long should payment take?

There is an important source conflict, so do not publish or rely on one number as a universal deadline without checking the current legal text. The PSX Shareholders’ Rights Guide says that the chief executive is responsible for cash-dividend payment within fifteen working days from declaration. Separately, a surfaced text of the Companies (Distribution of Dividend) Regulations, 2017 describes ten-working-day periods for final dividends and for interim dividends in specified circumstances.

Those statements cannot be silently reconciled. The surfaced regulation text is not a substitute for verifying the current official statute, regulations and amendments, and exceptions may apply. When a deadline matters—for example, when deciding whether to lodge a formal complaint—confirm the current primary legal source or obtain advice from the issuer, registrar, broker or a qualified professional. Use the company’s own payment notice for the status of that particular action rather than alleging a breach from an unverified figure.

Troubleshoot a missing dividend credit

Work through the checks in order. Each step eliminates a different failure point.

  1. Confirm entitlement. Re-read the exact dividend notice, book-closure dates and ex-entitlement information. Make sure the purchase, sale or transfer falls within the conditions stated for that action.
  2. Check for a revised notice. Search PSX announcements again for a later filing that changes the closure period, payment instructions or shareholder-information requirements.
  3. Inspect the designated account. Review the correct account and date range, including pending, returned or reversed entries. Ask the bank whether an electronic dividend credit was rejected because the account was closed, dormant or mismatched.
  4. Verify CNIC, NTN and IBAN details. Compare the information in the issuer notice with the details registered against your holding. Missing or invalid information can prevent payment even when the dividend was declared.
  5. Contact the correct intermediary. For book-entry holdings, contact the broker or CDC participant. For physical holdings, contact the named registrar. Ask for a trace, not merely a verbal confirmation that the company paid.
  6. Request written status information. Keep the announcement, account statement, correspondence and any dividend advice. Ask whether the payment is pending, returned, withheld for missing information or already credited to another designated account.
  7. Escalate through the issuer’s stated channel. Follow the complaint or investor-relations route in the latest notice. Include your shareholder or CDC details only through the secure channel specified by the company or intermediary.

Do not assume that a missing bank entry means the company failed to pay. A returned transfer, an outdated IBAN, an incomplete identification record or a registrar-side hold can produce the same symptom.

Book-entry and physical holdings require different follow-up

Holding form First contact Information to confirm
Book-entry shares Your broker or CDC participant. Shares held on the relevant entitlement basis, registered bank mandate, dividend instruction and any returned or pending payment.
Physical share certificates The share registrar named in the issuer notice. Certificate and folio details, identification, IBAN, receipt of transfer documents and payment or reissue status.
Bank account issue The bank after the intermediary or registrar confirms an instruction was sent. Whether the credit was received, rejected, returned or posted under a different narration.

The same company can have different resolution paths for these two holding forms. Use the route stated in the notice instead of sending a book-entry query to a physical-share registrar or vice versa.

  • Comfortable Non-Slip Grip:The ergonomic pen barrel has a soft rubberized coating for a comfortable, non-slip grip, so you won't get fatigued even after long hours of writing.
  • Authority: Prefer the current PSX filing and the issuer-filed document over an unofficial calendar or repost.
  • Specificity: Prefer the notice for the exact company and dividend action over general market guidance.
  • Date meaning: Determine whether each date is a book-closure interval, transfer cut-off, ex-entitlement trading date, declaration date or payment date before comparing them.
  • Freshness: Check the newest filing and look for a superseding or corrected announcement.
  • Payment evidence: Treat a company dispatch statement as evidence of company processing, not as evidence of your personal bank credit.

If the discrepancy remains after checking the latest filing, pause any trade that depends on the date and ask the issuer, broker or exchange for confirmation. A date that cannot be tied to a defined field in the current action should not be used as an entitlement decision.

A practical record-keeping worksheet

For each dividend, create one record with the following fields:

  • Company legal name and PSX symbol.
  • Announcement date and link or saved copy of the PSX filing.
  • Dividend type and stated amount, if applicable.
  • Book-closure start and end dates.
  • Ex-entitlement or ex-dividend date as published for the action.
  • Any earlier transfer, receipt or document cut-off.
  • Number of shares and the account or folio through which they are held.
  • Bank account and IBAN information on file, without storing unnecessary credentials in an unsecured note.
  • Company payment or dispatch date and any reference number.
  • Date the bank statement was checked and the outcome.
  • Names, dates and case numbers for contacts with the broker, CDC participant, registrar or bank.

This record separates market-date evidence from personal-payment evidence. It also gives the intermediary enough information to trace a transaction without requiring you to guess which dividend or account is involved.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Calling the book-closure start the ex-dividend date: They are related but distinct fields.
  • Using a T+2 explanation after the settlement change: Eligible PSX trades moved to T+1 effective February 9, 2026; still use the published action date.
  • Counting ordinary calendar days: Settlement days depend on the trading calendar and holidays.
  • Relying on a summary row alone: Open the issuer’s attached notice for transfer cut-offs and shareholder-information requirements.
  • Assuming declaration equals credit: A declaration announces entitlement; it does not show that your bank accepted a payment.
  • Ignoring an outdated IBAN or identification record: Missing CNIC, NTN or IBAN information can hold up payment.
  • Quoting one payment deadline as settled law: The PSX guide and the surfaced regulation text state different periods; verify the current primary rules before alleging non-compliance.
  • Confusing an issuer-wide status with your account status: Only your bank, intermediary or registrar can confirm an individual credit.

The reliable workflow in one sentence

Locate the newest issuer filing in the PSX Data Portal, copy the action-specific book-closure and ex-entitlement fields from the full notice, respect the current T+1 settlement context without calculating a date casually, and verify payment in the designated bank account through the broker, CDC participant or registrar that holds your records.
