You can remove viewed products from Amazon’s browsing-history display or turn that feature off in Your Browsing History. That does not delete purchases: Amazon says it may need to retain order history for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes. For household privacy, Alexa activity, and recommendations, use separate controls.
Remove items from your Amazon browsing history
Open Your Browsing History while signed in to your Amazon account. Amazon confirms that customers can edit browsing history, but the exact menu placement can vary by marketplace, app version, and interface updates.
- Remove one viewed product: Select Remove from view beneath the item.
- Clear the displayed list: Open Manage history, then select Remove all items from view.
- Stop the browsing-history feature: In Manage history, use the Turn Browsing History on/off control to switch it off.
These button labels come from Amazon staff guidance dated December 2020 and may have changed. The controls remove items from the browsing-history view; they should not be treated as a promise that Amazon erases all associated account data.
Does clearing browsing history delete Amazon orders?
No. Viewed-item history and purchase records are different. Removing a product from Your Browsing History does not remove its order from Your Orders. Amazon’s account-closure guidance says it may be legally required to retain some data, including order history, for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes. Do not assume there is a customer-facing control that permanently deletes every order.

Archiving an order, where that option is available, is also a visibility change rather than deletion: Amazon UK says archived orders can still be found by searching or filtering the purchase date in Your Orders. That UK guidance does not establish whether an archive action is currently available to every US customer, so check the options in your own account rather than relying on a universal archive workflow.
Keep Amazon purchases private from other household members
If the concern is someone in your home seeing an order, Amazon recommends Amazon Family. Amazon’s About Amazon article, written by Dave Johnson, says the service supports up to six household members—two adults and up to four children—with separate adult sign-ons. It states: “All adult orders are automatically private from everyone else in the home.” This separates household visibility; it does not erase Amazon’s underlying order records.

To limit product-title announcements on Alexa devices, Amazon’s article gives this Alexa app path: More > Settings > Notifications > Amazon Shopping. This affects shopping notifications, not order history itself.
Change recommendations separately
Browsing-history controls and recommendation controls are separate. If you remove an item from view but do not want it influencing suggestions, check the item-level Use this item for recommendations setting described in Amazon’s Privacy Notice. Editing the displayed history alone does not establish that recommendation preferences have also changed.

Use Amazon without linking future browsing to your account
Amazon’s Privacy Notice says a customer can sign out and block browser cookies to avoid linking future browsing to the account. This is a separate privacy choice, not a necessary step to clear the existing list. Rejecting cookies can interfere with essential shopping functions, including adding items to a cart, checkout, and services that require sign-in.

Alexa recordings, transcripts, and typed requests are managed separately from retail browsing history. In the Alexa app or on an Echo Show, open More > Alexa Privacy, or use Amazon’s Alexa privacy settings page to review and delete activity. Amazon says deletion starts a secure deletion process and completion time varies. It may not remove data held by third parties or outside Amazon’s cloud, de-identified copies, or every related record. Alexa shopping orders can also be reviewed in the Alexa app and Your Orders.
