Where you find it depends on how the card was delivered: check the concealed area on a physical card, the delivery email or text for a digital card, the receipt for some store loads, or the issuing provider’s delivery page for rewards cards.
Keep the code private. Anyone who obtains an unused claim code may be able to spend its value. Amazon warns that legitimate Amazon Pay merchants do not ask for Amazon Gift Card codes as payment: Amazon’s scam guidance and Amazon Pay’s payment guidance.
Where to look for the claim code

What an Amazon Gift Card claim code is
A claim code is the code entered during redemption to apply gift-card value to an Amazon account. It is different from a barcode used for retail scanning, a physical card or serial number, a purchase or order number, a store activation receipt, an account balance, and a promotional coupon code. Formats vary by marketplace, card type and distribution method; Amazon’s implementation examples are not a universal character-count rule (Amazon claim-code documentation).
Finding the code on a physical card
- Turn the card over.
- Locate the concealed panel on the back.
- Scratch or remove the covering carefully so the printed characters are not damaged.
- Copy the letters and numbers exactly, without adding spaces.
- Keep the card, packaging and purchase receipt until redemption succeeds.
A barcode is generally for scanning and should not be treated as the claim code. Physical-card workflows also require activation before redemption; activation may be handled by the retailer, and Amazon’s partner documentation describes this process for approved point-of-sale programs (Amazon physical-card documentation).

Do not photograph or send the exposed code while asking for help. A clear image can give someone else the card’s value.
Finding an eGift Card code
Search the original delivery email or text. The code may be visible in the message, behind a button, in an attachment or after selecting an official “view your gift card” or “Apply to your balance” control.
- Search for
Amazon gift card,Amazon.com Gift Card,gift card delivery, the sender’s name or the approximate delivery date. - Check spam, junk, promotions, social, archived, quarantined and other filtered folders.
- Confirm that the purchaser used the correct email address or phone number, including any alternate account.
- If someone else bought the card, ask that person to check the order or delivery-status page and resend it if the service allows.
Amazon specifically advises checking spam and junk folders when a claim-code email is missing (Amazon Associates guidance).

Finding a code on a store receipt
For some store-based balance loads, inspect the receipt for labels such as Claim Code, Gift Card Claim Code or Amazon Gift Card, followed by a grouped alphanumeric sequence. Keep the receipt.

Rewards, employer and other third-party deliveries
Return to the provider that issued the card and open its order, fulfillment or delivery page. Workplace rewards, survey sites and other authorized distributors may control code display, resend and cancellation. If the provider cannot resolve delivery, retain the order confirmation and contact Amazon through its official customer-service channel.

How to redeem the code
- Navigate directly to the Amazon marketplace associated with the card, rather than following an unsolicited link.
- Sign in to the intended account.
- Open Account or Your Account, then Gift cards or Gift Card Balance.
- Select Redeem a Gift Card. For the U.S. Amazon.com site, the direct destination is https://www.amazon.com/gc/redeem.
- Enter or paste the claim code and choose Apply to your balance (the exact button label can vary).
- Check the updated gift-card balance and account activity.
Menu labels differ by country, device and app version. Amazon gift cards are generally marketplace-specific, so a U.S. card may not work on another country’s Amazon site; applicable marketplace and gift-card terms govern eligible purchases (Amazon payment-method guidance).
Claim code, barcode and other numbers: what is what?

If you cannot find or read the code
- Stop scratching or rubbing the card.
- Photograph the card and damaged area for your records, but do not publish or send the code publicly.
- Preserve the card, packaging and receipt, and record where and when it was purchased.
- Contact the retailer about activation or receipt problems and contact Amazon Gift Card Customer Service through Amazon’s official Help or Customer Service pages.
Support may request card details, proof of purchase, transaction information or other verification. No replacement or recovery is guaranteed.

- Re-enter the characters carefully and remove accidental spaces.
- Check commonly confused characters such as
0/O,1/I,5/Sand8/B. - Confirm that you are using the marketplace for which the card was issued.
- Verify that a physical card was activated and that a receipt transaction was completed rather than voided.
- Check whether the value was already redeemed on another account.
- For a rewards card, contact the issuing provider as well as Amazon.
Do not repeatedly guess a damaged code. Amazon documents fraud controls for some physical-card distribution systems, but those technical controls are not a universal published consumer attempt limit (Amazon point-of-sale documentation).

If the code was already redeemed
Check the gift-card balance and account activity, and make sure you are signed in to the intended account. Ask the purchaser or recipient whether someone else received or used the code. If you believe it was used without authorization, contact Amazon; if it came from a retailer or rewards provider, contact that organization too. Recovery depends on the transaction, available evidence, account ownership and the investigation.
Gift-card scam warning
Never give an unused claim code to a caller, texter, email sender, alleged Amazon agent, employer, government official, buyer, seller, dating contact or refund representative as “payment,” a deposit, verification, a technical-support fee or an unlock charge. Do not use an Amazon Gift Card to pay an unrelated third-party merchant, and do not click suspicious links that ask you to verify a card. Navigate to Amazon yourself and use its official support channel. Amazon Pay states that third-party merchants should not request Amazon Gift Card payment (Amazon Pay guidance).
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I find the claim code in my Amazon account?
Sometimes, but not always. A code delivered by email, text, receipt or a rewards provider may not be stored in Amazon order history. Check the delivery source first; an automatically loaded card may have no separate code.

Is the barcode the claim code?
Usually not. The barcode is generally used for retail scanning. Redeem with the concealed or delivered claim code instead.
Can I redeem a card without scratching it?
Only if the code is supplied elsewhere, such as an email, text, receipt or provider page. Do not damage the physical card while exposing the code.
Does a receipt always contain a claim code?
No. Some balance-load transactions apply funds automatically when an account is identified; others print a code for manual redemption.
Can Amazon recover a code given to a scammer?
Do not assume it can. Contact Amazon promptly with the card and transaction evidence, but any recovery depends on its investigation.
