You can use TallyPrime to prepare and send GSTR-3B data, but the return is not filed just because you upload it from the software. Check the figures in TallyPrime, export a JSON file or upload the summaries directly, then finish the return on the GST Portal: review and save the draft, preview it, pay any net liability due, and submit it using the authorised signatory’s EVC or DSC as applicable.
Before you start: verify the period, GSTIN and figures
Open the GSTR-3B report in TallyPrime for the correct return period and GST registration. Reconcile the report with your books and the figures available on the GST Portal before exporting or uploading anything. Pay particular attention to input tax credit (ITC): Tally Solutions advises checking TallyPrime values against the portal’s prefilled values.
Make corrections before filing. Tally Solutions warns that once GSTR-3B is filed, its values cannot be changed. Check the GST Portal’s due date for the selected period and any official extensions; there is no single due date established here for every taxpayer and period. TallyPrime’s GSTR-3B guidance and the GST Portal’s GSTR-3B filing guide explain the relevant workflows.
Choose how to move the data from TallyPrime
Pick the route that fits your setup. Direct upload reduces manual transfer, but it does not remove the need to complete filing on the portal.
#1 Best Overall
| Route | How it works | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Direct upload | Send selected GSTR-3B summaries from TallyPrime to the GST Portal, then prepare and file the return there. | Users of TallyPrime Release 5.0 or later who want to avoid handling an export file. |
| JSON export | Export return data from TallyPrime, then upload the JSON on the GST Portal. | Users who need a file-based workflow or a copy to handle separately. |
| Offline utility | Export Excel or CSV from TallyPrime, validate and generate JSON with the GST offline utility, then upload that JSON on the portal. | Users whose process includes the offline utility. |
| Manual portal entry | Refer to TallyPrime’s GSTR-3B report and enter the figures on the GST Portal. | Users who prefer to enter the return directly. |
For the detailed routes, see Tally Solutions’ overview of GSTR-3B in TallyPrime and its direct-upload instructions.

Set File Format to JSON (Data Interchange), specify the destination folder, save the configuration and export the file.
-
On the GST Portal, select the matching return period and upload the JSON. Continue with the portal steps in the next section.
In TallyPrime Release 4.0 and earlier, Tally Solutions documents a different route: open the GSTR-3B report and use Alt+E (Export) > GST Returns. Check the instructions for your release in Tally Solutions’ JSON export guide.
Check Section 3.2 for interstate supplies
Tally Solutions identifies an auto-fill limitation affecting Section 3.2 for TallyPrime Releases 2.0 through 6.2: interstate supplies in that section will not auto-fill from GSTR-1. Check the section on the prepared return rather than assuming it was populated.

Tally Solutions says a draft can be retained for 15 days. A saved or uploaded draft is not a filed return; filing is complete only after the required payment process and successful final submission. Follow the portal’s screens and instructions for the selected period. See the GST Portal GSTR-3B guide for its filing workflow.
If you use the QRMP scheme
The GST Portal’s QRMP FAQ describes quarterly filing of GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B alongside monthly tax payments through challan. It describes eligibility for taxpayers with aggregate annual turnover up to ₹5 crore; verify current eligibility and your GSTIN’s portal profile before relying on that threshold. Tally Solutions says TallyPrime can export a quarterly JSON file, but distinguishes that export from supporting quarterly GSTR-3B as a periodic filing frequency in the software. Check the portal’s applicable filing frequency and TallyPrime’s current guidance. See the GST Portal QRMP FAQ and TallyPrime GSTR-3B guidance.
