To evaluate Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), look past analyst price targets and build a dated view from its semiconductor and infrastructure-software businesses, earnings quality, cash flow, debt, valuation, and downside risks. Broadcom’s fiscal third-quarter 2026 results show strong growth, especially in AI semiconductors, but a strong quarter and management guidance do not establish how durable that growth will be or what the shares are worth today.
The latest detailed figures discussed below come from Broadcom’s September 2, 2026 earnings release for the quarter ended August 2. Broadcom’s Financial Reports index lists a Form 10-Q filed September 10, 2026; review it for updated balance-sheet, share-count, segment, and risk information before treating this as a current investment view. Debt and risk details cited here come from the company’s May 3, 2026 Form 10-Q.
Start with the two businesses, not one blended growth rate
Broadcom reports two operating segments: semiconductor solutions and infrastructure software. They have different growth profiles, so a single company-wide growth rate can hide important changes in the business mix.
| Q3 FY2026 segment | Revenue | Share of company revenue | Year-over-year growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semiconductor solutions | $20.839 billion | 70% | 127% |
| Infrastructure software | $8.752 billion | 30% | 29% |
These are Broadcom-reported figures for the fiscal quarter ended August 2, 2026. When assessing future growth, ask what is driving each segment and whether the latest pace is likely to persist. Do not assume the faster-growing segment’s current rate will become the durable growth rate of the entire company.

Test AI momentum for durability and customer concentration
Broadcom reported Q3 AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion, up 221% year over year and 54% sequentially. CEO Hock Tan said demand for custom AI accelerators and networking remained very strong. Those figures and management’s description are evidence of current momentum, not proof that demand will continue at the same rate.
In the September 2 release, management guided to $21.7 billion of AI semiconductor revenue for Q4 FY2026. Treat this as a forecast, not a realized result. Compare it with the subsequent reported quarter when available, and consider whether customer demand, delivery capacity, and order timing support the trajectory.
Broadcom’s May 3, 2026 Form 10-Q warns that it has historically depended on a small number of end customers, OEMs, and their customers. It says losing or materially reducing sales to top customers—including customers for custom AI accelerators or XPUs—could materially affect its business, results, and cash flows. For an investor, that makes concentration a central part of the AI-growth question, not a footnote.

Read reported results alongside adjusted earnings
Broadcom’s Q3 FY2026 release reported the following consolidated results for the quarter ended August 2, 2026:
| Measure | Reported result | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $29.591 billion | Up 86% |
| GAAP operating income | $15.955 billion | Up 171% |
| GAAP diluted EPS | $2.68 | Up 215% |
| Cash from operations | $14.197 billion | Up 98% |
| Free cash flow, as presented by Broadcom | $13.665 billion, or 46% of revenue | Up 95% |
Management also highlighted non-GAAP operating income growth of 92% year over year. Use the reconciliation in each earnings release to understand how that measure differs from GAAP results. Broadcom’s non-GAAP adjustments include acquisition-related intangible amortization, stock-based compensation, restructuring and other charges, acquisition-related costs, tax adjustments, and other items.
Broadcom cautions that non-GAAP measures should not replace or be considered superior to GAAP measures. It also says exclusions should not be taken to mean the excluded costs are non-recurring, infrequent, or unusual. Track the adjustments over time, alongside stock-based compensation and diluted weighted-average shares, rather than treating them as economically irrelevant.

Check whether earnings turn into cash
The company’s reported free cash flow is calculated after $0.532 billion in capital expenditures. Broadcom cautions that its free-cash-flow presentation omits components of the cash-flow statement, is not necessarily discretionary cash available, and may not be comparable with similarly named measures at other companies. Compare operating cash flow, capital expenditures, and the company’s definition across periods before using free cash flow in a valuation or cash-conversion judgment.
Review debt, cash, and capital allocation on matching dates
Broadcom reported $24.0 billion in cash and cash equivalents at the end of Q3 FY2026 on August 2, 2026. Its May 3, 2026 Form 10-Q reported $66.720 billion of aggregate indebtedness. These figures are from different dates and may not use the same balance-sheet definition; subtracting them does not produce a reliable current net-debt figure.

Broadcom’s May filing identifies debt service as a potential constraint on financial flexibility.

The Q3 release approved a quarterly cash dividend of $0.65 per share. The May 3 Form 10-Q says dividend declarations remain subject to Board approval and that repurchases may fluctuate or stop. Assess dividends and buybacks against investment needs, debt reduction, cash generation, and changes in diluted share count. A dividend yield also requires a current share price and assumptions about future payments.
Build a valuation from dated, consistent inputs
Analyst targets are opinions, not operating evidence or a valuation method. To judge whether AVGO’s market price is reasonable, assemble market and financial inputs from the same date or clearly aligned periods. Broadcom’s investor center provides routes to stock information, filings, presentations, and company news, but its displayed stock quote is delayed and should not be treated as live.
| Valuation measure | Inputs to align | Key judgment |
|---|---|---|
| Price-to-earnings | Current share price and a clearly identified GAAP or adjusted earnings period | State which earnings measure is used and how adjustments such as acquired-intangible amortization and stock compensation are treated. |
| Enterprise value to operating earnings or EBITDA | Market capitalization, cash, debt, and a consistently defined operating earnings or EBITDA period | Use matching balance-sheet and market dates; make the earnings definition explicit. |
| Price-to-free-cash-flow | Market capitalization and free cash flow for a specified period | Disclose the free-cash-flow definition and do not assume it is standardized across issuers. |
| Free-cash-flow yield | Free cash flow and market capitalization for aligned dates | State the period and denominator, and account for Broadcom’s caveats about its free-cash-flow measure. |
Compare current multiples and margins with Broadcom’s own historical range and with relevant peers, using consistent financial periods and definitions. Peer comparisons should explain differences in semiconductor versus software exposure, growth, cyclicality, margins, cash conversion, leverage, and customer concentration. A single blended peer multiple can conceal these differences.

The figures above do not establish a current share price, market capitalization, peer set, or calculated valuation multiples. Those inputs must be obtained and dated when making a valuation comparison; do not infer a current multiple from a delayed quote or from analyst targets alone.

Broadcom’s May 3, 2026 Form 10-Q and FY2025 Form 10-K identify risks that matter to both operating results and valuation. Consider how the investment case would change if one or more of these occurred:
- AI demand slowed, customer orders were delayed, or a major customer materially reduced purchases.
- Semiconductor cyclicality, competition, or manufacturing and supply-chain constraints affected deliveries or margins.
- Infrastructure-software customer acceptance or compatibility proved weaker than expected.
- Cybersecurity incidents, acquisition integration difficulties, debt service, or tax uncertainty affected costs or cash flows.
Use scenarios to test what the current valuation assumes—for example, whether it depends on uninterrupted AI growth, stable margins, and continued software performance. The purpose is to reveal which assumptions drive the result, not to assign unsupported probabilities.
Quick Recap
Refresh the evidence before making a decision
- Update the filings: Read the September 10, 2026 Form 10-Q and the next available results for changes to cash, debt, maturities, share count, segment performance, and risk disclosures.
- Update market inputs: Obtain a current share price and market capitalization from a timely source; do not use Broadcom’s delayed investor-center quote as live data.
- Reconcile the periods: Align market capitalization, cash, debt, and financial results to stated dates and periods before calculating valuation measures.
- Compare the operating case: Track each segment, AI customer and demand exposure, GAAP results, adjusted measures, cash conversion, dilution, and capital allocation over multiple periods.
- Stress-test assumptions: Identify what slower growth, weaker margins, customer losses, or financing needs would mean for your valuation rather than relying on a target-price consensus.
