In Google Pay India, open the app and tap profile picture → More → Referral code. Enter the code and submit it; Google says a valid code leads to a success screen. These referral instructions apply to India, and Google’s terms require an Indian mobile number beginning with +91. Google Pay India terms.
Enter a Google Pay referral code
- Open Google Pay.
- Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Tap More in the top-right.
- Select Referral code.
- Enter the code and submit it. If it is valid, Google says you should see a success screen. Save a screenshot or note the confirmation in case you need to contact support.
The current official path is Google Pay → Profile picture → More → Referral code. Labels can vary slightly with app language or version. This control is in your profile area, not in the ordinary payment checkout. See Google’s referral-code instructions.
Use a referral link if you have one
Tap the sender’s referral link and follow its setup instructions; Google says the code is applied automatically. If you have not installed the app yet, using the link before downloading is preferable: Google lists downloading Google Pay directly instead of using the special referral link as a possible reason for ineligibility. If the app is already installed or you received only a code, use the manual entry path above. Use one invitation rather than accepting several.
Only follow a link you trust. If the link does not open correctly, ask the sender for the code and enter it manually. Google explains link-based and manual referrals.

What to do after entering the code
Entering a code does not by itself earn a reward. The offer can require a new or eligible returning user, a linked bank account, and a first qualifying payment within a deadline. Google’s current referral help page says that payment must be made within 28 days after using the code or link. Treat this as the rule for the offer described on that page; check the terms shown in your app for your invitation.
Google lists these as examples of qualifying payments: paying another person through Google Pay, paying a bill, paying on a website or app using Google Pay details, or sending money to someone’s bank account through Google Pay. Insurance-premium payments and payments to Google Pay users with the same account details may not count. Check the offer details before making a payment solely to qualify. If “Referral code” is missing or your code is rejected
If the menu option is missing
- Check that you are using Google Pay in India and a phone number beginning with +91; the referral offer is not a universal Google Pay feature.
- Update the app through your app store, then check the profile’s More menu again.
- If the option still does not appear, Google says you may not be eligible. Do not use an unofficial code-entry page or attempt to bypass eligibility; contact Google Pay support if you believe the option should be available.
If the code is rejected
- Re-enter it carefully, checking similar characters such as 0/O, 1/I and 5/S.
- Confirm it came from a genuine Google Pay invitation and has not already been used or replaced by another referral.
- If you have the sender’s referral link, try following it instead.
- Keep a screenshot of the error or confirmation for support. Repeated reinstalls or creating extra accounts will not resolve eligibility tied to prior account or device history.
Google identifies prior sign-in or registration history for the phone, number, email, bank account or payment method as potential eligibility issues. A second-hand or refurbished device may also have been used with Google Pay before, and a recycled phone number may have prior service history. Uninstalling the app does not necessarily make someone a new user. Google also says a user may be disqualified after accepting another referral or already earning a referral reward. See Google’s eligibility guidance.
A separate welcome-back offer on Google’s current help page describes eligibility after 180 days or more without using Google Pay. That threshold applies to the offer described there, not automatically to every promotion. Check the current offer terms.

Why a reward may not have arrived
Google says rewards can take up to 7 business days to appear in the account or linked bank account. If that period has passed, check the in-app referral or rewards page, confirm the payment was an eligible type and made before the offer deadline, and verify whether you or the referrer reached a program reward limit.
Do not assume a fixed cashback amount. Google’s current referral help page lists ₹201 for inviting a new friend, ₹21 for the invited friend’s first eligible payment, and ₹21 for bringing back a user inactive for at least 180 days. Another Google help page describes a different reward structure, including ₹101 for the referrer and bonus quests. The amount and mechanics therefore depend on the offer shown in your app and can change. Current referral help · Additional Google referral guidance.

Does this apply to Google Pay in the United States?
No: the referral-code workflow above is for Google Pay India. The standalone Google Pay app in the United States stopped being available on June 4, 2024. Google Wallet remains relevant for saved payment methods and tap-to-pay, and Google Pay can still be used for some online checkout functions; neither fact makes the India referral process a current U.S. workflow.
