You do not get 2% back twice. Citi describes the Double Cash card’s standard rewards as 1% when you make a purchase and another 1% as you pay for it—2% total on eligible purchases. The two parts explain the “cash back twice” wording; they do not add up to 4%. Whether that works for a particular Apple purchase depends on the checkout method and the current terms.
How the two parts of Citi Double Cash work
Citi’s product page describes a 1% reward when you make a purchase and an additional 1% as you pay. That is a combined 2% on eligible purchases, not 2% at checkout plus another 2% later. The second part is tied to paying, so the full advertised rate is not simply a purchase-time bonus.
Citi lists balance transfers, cash advances, account fees, interest and returned items among transactions that do not earn cash back. Check the current terms for your account and purchase route before relying on a reward. Citi Double Cash terms and card details
Using the card for an Apple purchase
If you buy a Mac, iPhone or iPad with Citi Double Cash as a regular purchase and the transaction qualifies under your account terms, the advertised earn structure is 1% at purchase and another 1% as you pay. The card is a general purchase card; the public product description does not settle how every Apple checkout route, third-party seller, Apple Pay transaction or financing arrangement is treated.

Before placing an order, check which payment method the seller’s checkout actually accepts and review the current Citi terms. Do not assume that choosing an Apple financing option also lets you pay with Citi Double Cash or earn Citi rewards on the financed transaction.
How Apple Card Monthly Installments differ
Apple offers a separate Apple Card Monthly Installments option for eligible Apple purchases, with 0% APR described for eligible checkout purchases and 3% Daily Cash on eligible Apple purchases made with Apple Card. This is a distinct card-and-payment arrangement, not a way to combine Citi Double Cash with Apple’s financing or Daily Cash.

There is no universal winner. Compare the actual device price and payment offer, whether you will pay in full or use installments, the rewards and when they accrue, financing cost, eligibility and credit limit, and whether the retailer accepts your intended card and checkout method.

- Apple Card Monthly Installments: consider this only if the purchase and checkout are eligible and the installment schedule fits your budget; approval and credit limit apply, and the 0% APR described for installments does not apply to a one-time payment.
Apple announced on January 7, 2026, that Chase would become Apple Card’s issuer, with an expected transition of approximately 24 months; Apple said existing users could continue using their card during the transition.
