Air India’s former Flying Returns program is now called Maharaja Club, and its points are Maharaja Points. Members can earn through eligible Air India and Air India Express flights, qualifying Star Alliance travel, non-airline partner purchases, reward-point transfers and paid point purchases. If a flight was not credited, there is also a missing-points claim route. Eligibility and rates vary by route, fare or partner, so check Air India’s current terms before booking or spending.
How do I earn Maharaja Points?
Air India’s Maharaja Club FAQ lists earning from flights, non-airline partner purchases, reward-point conversions and buying points. A separate claim feature lets members seek credit for eligible flights that did not post. These routes differ in what you must do, how eligibility is decided and whether the points have a direct cost.
| Route | What can qualify | What determines eligibility or amount |
|---|---|---|
| Air India flight | Eligible revenue ticket | Base fare plus fuel surcharge (YQ); direct bookings through Air India’s website or app have a stated bonus formula |
| Air India Express flight | Eligible revenue ticket | Base fare; fare and flight eligibility must be checked |
| Star Alliance flight | Flight operated by a Star Alliance member | Operating carrier and purchased booking class |
| Non-airline partner | Qualifying product or service purchase | Current partner listing and that partner’s terms |
| Reward conversion | Eligible balance from a participating rewards program | Issuer or conversion partner’s current transfer rate and processing terms |
| Buy points | Purchase through Air India’s Buy Points feature | Current price, limits and account conditions |
| Missing-points claim | Eligible flight not credited to the account | Claim window, airline rules and supporting details |
Earn on Air India flights
For eligible Air India revenue tickets, the earning calculator uses the sum of the base fare and fuel surcharge (YQ). It also states a bonus of 2 Maharaja Points per INR 100 spent when a member books directly on Air India’s website or mobile app. The formula is a stated program term, not a guaranteed total for every ticket: fare eligibility and member details can affect the result. Use the current earning calculator for the itinerary and fare you plan to buy.
Earn on Air India Express flights
Air India’s calculator lists the base fare as the earning basis for eligible Air India Express revenue tickets, rather than base fare plus YQ. Air India announced that eligible Air India Express-operated travel on or after 22 May 2026 can earn Maharaja Points. It said members could book through the airlines’ websites and apps as well as major travel agents. The FAQ also lists Air India Express codeshare flights, but that does not establish that every fare or codeshare itinerary qualifies. Check the live rules before estimating points.

Earn on Star Alliance partner flights
A Star Alliance logo alone does not determine credit. The flight must be operated by a Star Alliance partner, and the booking class on the purchased ticket must qualify for Maharaja Club accrual. Points follow the operating airline’s rate for that booking class; one carrier’s chart cannot be applied to another carrier.
Before travel, check Air India’s Star Alliance partner and accrual information for the operating airline and class. Some flights or classes may not earn. The partner information lists missing-credit claim windows that vary by carrier—365, 210 or 180 days—and says the member must have belonged to Maharaja Club on the travel date.

Earn through non-airline partners
Purchases of products or services from non-airline partners may earn points under each partner’s own terms. Check Air India’s current partner pages and the merchant’s offer conditions before making a purchase; a past listing or campaign does not prove a merchant is still active or that every purchase qualifies.
For scale, Air India reported 4.2 million member transactions across more than 100 partners in FY26. That is a company-reported measure of ecosystem activity, not an estimate of what an individual member will earn and not confirmation that every partner remains available.

Convert other reward points

The reviewed program information does not establish one universal current transfer ratio or a complete active-partner list. Confirm the sending program’s current transfer rate, minimums, processing time and any other conditions before moving a balance.
Buy Maharaja Points
Air India offers a Buy Points feature, but purchased points are not the same as points earned through eligible spending. Check the current price, purchase limits, expiry terms and account restrictions in the offer before paying. Do not rely on an older promotion or quoted price as a current offer.

Claim flight points that did not post
Use Air India’s Claim Missing Points feature when an eligible flight has not appeared in your account. For Star Alliance partner flights, the deadline depends on the operating airline: Air India lists windows of 365, 210 or 180 days. Enrollment on the travel date is required for those partner-flight claims. Check the specific carrier’s deadline and documentation requirements, and submit the claim before its window closes.
