To create an NFT, prepare the digital asset and its metadata, choose a blockchain, connect a compatible wallet, deploy or use an NFT smart contract, mint the token, verify its contract and metadata, and optionally list it for sale. Uploading an image alone does not create an NFT.
This guide explains the beginner-friendly no-code route, public drops, custom smart contracts, gas and marketplace fees, storage, royalties, copyright, taxes, and the scams most likely to cost a new creator money.
What creating an NFT actually means
An NFT, or non-fungible token, is a blockchain record identified by a smart-contract address and token ID. It usually points to metadata describing an associated image, video, audio file, 3D model, document, ticket, membership, credential, or other asset. The NFT is not automatically the same thing as the underlying file.
The complete lifecycle looks like this:
Digital file
↓
Metadata JSON
↓
Storage URI
↓
NFT smart contract
↓
Mint transaction
↓
Contract address + token ID
↓
Marketplace listing or public drop
These terms describe different actions:
- Creating the media: Making or obtaining the image, music, video, animation, 3D object, document, or other asset.
- Creating metadata: Writing a JSON document containing the NFT’s name, description, media URI, traits, and related links.
- Deploying a contract: Publishing the smart contract that defines a collection, its token behavior, and sometimes its minting and royalty rules.
- Minting: Creating a token instance under that contract and assigning it to a blockchain address.
- Listing: Creating a marketplace offer to sell an NFT you already own.
- Launching a drop: Allowing buyers to mint tokens directly from the contract, usually through presale and public-sale stages.
A marketplace profile, collection page, or sales listing is not itself an NFT. The contract, token record, ownership information, and metadata pointer are the important blockchain components.

Decide what you are creating first
Choosing the format before paying for deployment or minting prevents expensive redesigns.
| Goal | Typical structure | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| One-of-one artwork | One token with a supply of 1 |
There is one intended copy. ERC-721 is the conventional standard, although an ERC-1155 item can also have a supply of one. |
| Edition | One item with a supply greater than 1 |
Multiple collectors can own a copy of the same item. ERC-1155 is commonly suited to this structure. |
| Collection | Many token IDs under one contract | Each item can have its own metadata, traits, price, and supply rules. |
| Public drop | A contract and mint website or platform flow | Buyers mint directly into their own wallets during presale or public-sale stages. |
| Ticket, membership, or credential | Token plus clearly defined access or redemption terms | The NFT represents a practical right only if the issuer actually honors and documents that right. |
| Generative or dynamic NFT | Programmatic metadata, rendering, or tokenURI behavior | The displayed result may depend on on-chain data, contract logic, or an external renderer. |
Ethereum’s NFT overview describes uses including collectibles, access keys, tickets, numbered seats, and in-game items. An NFT does not automatically make an asset scarce, authentic, legally transferable, or valuable. You must define what the token represents and what the buyer receives.
On OpenSea, a collection is effectively the smart contract powering the group of NFTs. You can create a collection containing only one item, but you cannot create an item with no contract or collection at all. Other platforms and custom contracts may use different terminology, so treat the OpenSea steps below as an example rather than a universal procedure.
Write the buyer rights before minting
Decide in plain language whether the buyer receives:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Personal display rights only.
- Commercial-use rights.
- Permission to make derivatives.
- A license, a copyright assignment, or no additional intellectual-property rights.
- Physical merchandise or redemption rights.
- Membership, event, or software access.
- A right to participate in revenue or governance.
Put those terms where buyers can find them, such as a license page linked through the metadata and your project website. Do not assume that transferring the token transfers copyright.
Choose a creation route
| If you need… | Usually start with… | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| A first NFT with little or no coding | OpenSea Studio or another reputable creator platform | Fast launch and marketplace integration, but less control over contract design. |
| A small one-of-one or edition | A creator-platform collection | You pay applicable gas and platform charges but avoid writing a contract. |
| A public launch with allowlists and mint stages | A drop tool or custom mint website | More operational planning, testing, and support work. |
| Custom payment, access, dynamic metadata, or supply logic | An independently deployed ERC-721 or ERC-1155 contract | Full control also means full responsibility for testing, security, deployment, and support. |
| To defer some blockchain work | A platform’s lazy or free-minting option, if currently offered | The token may not be minted until a later sale or transfer, and the platform determines important contract and fee behavior. |
For a first-time creator, a current no-code tool is usually the safest way to learn the process. For a serious collection, brand, game, or financial arrangement, obtain technical and legal advice before deploying a contract.
Prepare the media and metadata
Media checklist
- Use a file format supported by the chosen marketplace and intended wallets.
- Optimize file size without damaging the viewing experience.
- Check image resolution, audio playback, video codecs, animation behavior, and 3D compatibility.
- Keep the original, high-quality file offline.
- Check that you own or properly licensed every image, font, song, sample, model, trademark, and photograph included in the work.
- Write accessible descriptive text for people who cannot view or hear the media.
- Decide whether the media and metadata should be immutable or updateable.
OpenSea’s metadata documentation supports fields for images, animation files, HTML experiences, attributes, and external URLs, but format and size support is platform-specific. Check the current requirements before uploading.
Metadata JSON
ERC-721’s basic metadata schema includes name, description, and image. Marketplaces commonly support additional fields such as animation_url, attributes, background_color, and external_url.
{
"name": "Example Artwork #1",
"description": "A description of the work and what the token represents.",
"image": "ipfs://YOUR_MEDIA_CID/example.png",
"external_url": "https://example.com/artwork/1",
"attributes": [
{
"trait_type": "Background",
"value": "Blue"
},
{
"trait_type": "Edition",
"value": 1,
"max_value": 100
}
]
}
The JSON is not the artwork. It is a description that points to the artwork. Validate it as JSON, check every URI, and preserve the exact file you used.
For ERC-1155, the metadata URI commonly includes {id}. A client replaces that placeholder with the token ID represented as lowercase hexadecimal, padded to 64 characters. For example, token ID 1 becomes a 64-character hexadecimal value. A wrong filename, capitalization, or padding can make an edition display the wrong metadata.
Choose storage carefully
| Storage model | Strength | Risk or trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fully on-chain | Strong persistence and composability | Can be expensive and technically constrained, especially for large media. |
| On-chain-generated | Logic or data is recorded on-chain | More complex to build and display; the final visual may be rendered by client software. |
| IPFS | Content-addressed and portable | A CID does not guarantee availability. Files need pinning or another persistence arrangement. |
| Arweave | Designed for long-term decentralized storage | Persistence depends on the selected service and its payment and operational model. |
| Centralized HTTPS server | Easy to update and operate | Depends on the server owner, hosting account, domain, and future maintenance. |
| Marketplace-hosted storage | Convenient for beginners | Creates dependence on the platform’s storage, indexing, and display systems. |
IPFS does not mean permanent storage by itself. IPFS documentation explains that nodes may garbage-collect unpinned data. Pin important media and metadata locally or through more than one reliable pinning service where practical. Prefer canonical ipfs:// URIs in metadata instead of hard-coding one gateway URL.
Keep offline copies of the original media, metadata JSON, media CID, metadata CID, contract address, token IDs, transaction hashes, and license terms. An NFT may remain on-chain while its image disappears, changes, or becomes inaccessible.
Set up a wallet safely
Your wallet controls the blockchain address that deploys the contract, pays gas, receives minted NFTs, signs transactions, and receives sale proceeds. It does not store the media in the same way a computer folder does; it controls the keys that authorize blockchain actions and displays assets through wallet or marketplace software.
- Download a compatible wallet only from the provider’s official website or verified app-store listing.
- Create a new wallet or dedicate a separate wallet to the project.
- Write the recovery phrase on paper or another offline backup method.
- Never share the phrase with a marketplace, buyer, developer, support agent, or website.
- Never photograph it, store it in an online document, or enter it into a support form.
- Consider using a low-value testing wallet, a creator wallet, and a separate wallet for meaningful proceeds.
- For a valuable collection, consider a hardware wallet, while remembering that it does not protect you from fake websites or malicious signatures.
The recovery phrase is the master key. Transactions are generally irreversible. Ethereum’s wallet guide and security guidance, along with MetaMask’s recovery-phrase warnings, provide additional safety guidance.
Choose a blockchain and understand the cost
There is no universally best blockchain. Compare:
- Where your intended collectors already have wallets.
- Which wallets and marketplaces support the chain for creation, display, buying, and selling.
- Transaction cost, speed, reliability, and congestion behavior.
- Whether the chain is EVM-compatible and works with your tools.
- Whether buyers can easily obtain the chain’s native gas token.
- Whether provenance, liquidity, gaming support, inexpensive editions, or custom-contract control matters most.
- Whether the NFT will be discoverable outside one platform.
Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Zora are examples of EVM ecosystems, but support and creation capabilities change. Check the current platform documentation. OpenSea’s compatibility page lists many chains but currently distinguishes Solana support for token swapping from NFT support, so do not assume that a chain visible in one part of a platform can be used for NFT creation.

Gas is not the same as a marketplace fee
Gas is the blockchain transaction fee paid to validators or network infrastructure. Depending on the workflow, you may pay gas for:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Deploying the smart contract.
- Minting an NFT.
- Updating metadata or collection settings.
- Revealing a drop.
- Listing, accepting an offer, transferring, or burning a token.
Gas changes with the chain, transaction complexity, and network conditions. A failed transaction can still consume gas because the transaction was submitted and processed even though the intended state change did not complete. OpenSea specifically warns that a failed drop mint may still cost gas.
Use this cost formula rather than an unqualified dollar estimate:
Total cost = contract-deployment gas + mint gas + storage costs + marketplace fees + listing or sale gas + tax and accounting costs.
Convert cryptocurrency costs to your local currency at the relevant transaction time for your records. Keep a reserve for failed transactions and retries.
Beginner tutorial: create one NFT or a small collection with OpenSea Studio
Example only: The following reflects OpenSea documentation and interface labels checked August 9, 2026. Menus, fees, supported chains, and requirements can change. Confirm the current page before signing a transaction.
Prerequisites
- A compatible self-custody wallet with an offline recovery-phrase backup.
- The media file and metadata details.
- The native gas token for the selected blockchain.
- The legal right to tokenize the media.
- A decision about one-of-one, edition, or drop.
OpenSea says creators need cryptocurrency for gas and the artwork they want to mint. The current Create Collection flow deploys a smart contract, then creates ERC-1155 items whose supplies can be set to one or more.
1. Open Studio and start a collection
- Open the official OpenSea website.
- Select Studio from the left sidebar.
- Select Create new.
- Select Create Collection if you want to mint the NFT directly into your own wallet.
Enter the collection logo, contract name, token symbol, and blockchain. The collection name and token symbol are visible on-chain and cannot be changed after the contract is deployed, so proofread them.
2. Publish the contract
Select Publish Contract and approve the wallet transaction. The wallet should display the selected network and a gas estimate. After confirmation, the collection has a contract address.

3. Upload the media and item details
In the collection’s Media & Metadata area:
- Upload the media file.
- Enter the item name.
- Set supply to
1for one copy or a larger number for an edition. - Add a description and external link if appropriate.
- Add traits or attributes.
- Check spelling, links, supply, file type, and rights before minting.
OpenSea’s current collection flow requires items in one collection to use the same file type. Do not assume you can change the media after minting; whether metadata is mutable depends on the platform and contract.
4. Mint
Select Mint and approve the transaction. The expected result is a token ID, a mint transaction hash, and an NFT assigned to the connected wallet. It may take time for the marketplace to index the item.
Record the contract address, token ID, mint transaction hash, metadata URI, media CID if applicable, and recipient address.

5. Set creator earnings
Use the collection’s Creator Earnings section to enter a percentage and payout address. Treat this as a configured earning preference unless the contract and marketplace support actual enforcement. OpenSea currently caps its configured creator-earnings percentage at 10%.
6. Verify the result
Do not rely only on the marketplace page. Check the item on the blockchain explorer for the selected chain and confirm:

How to create a drop so buyers mint directly
Use a drop when a project has many items, presale or public-sale stages, allowlists, wallet limits, a launch schedule, or a delayed reveal. In the current OpenSea drop model, the NFT does not exist until a buyer mints it. That is different from minting every item into the creator’s wallet and listing them individually.
Current OpenSea drop workflow
- Open Studio, choose Create new, and select Drop.
- Deploy and configure the contract.
- Add collection metadata and item metadata.
- Choose a limited-edition drop with fixed supply or an open-edition drop whose final supply is determined by the number minted during the mint period.
- Set presale and public-sale stages.
- Set price, start time, duration, and wallet limits.
- Upload and carefully check any allowlist.
- Publish the drop.
- Test presale and public minting with a separate test wallet before promotion.
- After minting ends, complete the reveal if delayed reveal is enabled.
OpenSea’s current documentation requires a public-sale stage for a drop. It states that the maximum stage duration is one year, total supply cannot be increased after minting begins, and lowering supply during an active mint is permanent. Treat supply and schedule settings as final unless the documentation explicitly says otherwise.
Delayed reveal
A delayed reveal shows a placeholder until minting is complete and the final metadata is revealed. It can prevent buyers from selecting only desirable token IDs before minting, but it adds operational risk. You must prepare reveal metadata correctly and complete the reveal transaction. OpenSea states that revealing a collection prevents later changes to the drop settings or item metadata.
If nobody mints, there may be no NFTs to reveal. If a drop sells only partially, the creator may need to reduce supply before revealing. A buyer can also lose gas if a public mint sells out while that buyer’s transaction is pending.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDeveloper route: deploy your own NFT contract
Use a custom contract when you need full control over mint logic, payment splits, allowlists, claim phases, a custom website, dynamic or on-chain metadata, access controls, or a collection identity independent of one marketplace.
ERC-721 or ERC-1155?
- ERC-721: Each token is individually unique and identified by the contract address and token ID.
- ERC-1155: One contract can support multiple token types and multiple copies of an item, making it useful for editions, game items, and semi-fungible assets.
Marketplace compatibility still matters. A technically valid standard may not display every custom behavior correctly on every marketplace.
OpenZeppelin implementation
OpenZeppelin provides ERC-721 implementations and extensions such as ERC721URIStorage, ERC721Royalty, ERC721Pausable, ERC721Burnable, and ERC721Consecutive. Its documentation notes that ERC721URIStorage is flexible but more expensive, and that ERC721Royalty exposes ERC-2981 royalty information without guaranteeing that every marketplace pays it.
This is an educational example, not a production-ready collection contract:
// SPDX-License-Identifier: MIT
pragma solidity ^0.8.24;
import {ERC721URIStorage} from
"@openzeppelin/contracts/token/ERC721/extensions/ERC721URIStorage.sol";
import {Ownable} from
"@openzeppelin/contracts/access/Ownable.sol";
contract ExampleNFT is ERC721URIStorage, Ownable {
uint256 private _nextTokenId;
constructor(address initialOwner)
ERC721("Example NFT", "EXNFT")
Ownable(initialOwner)
{}
function mint(address to, string calldata metadataURI)

{
tokenId = _nextTokenId++;
_safeMint(to, tokenId);

}
function supportsInterface(bytes4 interfaceId)
public
view
override(ERC721URIStorage, ERC721)
returns (bool)
{
return super.supportsInterface(interfaceId);
}
}
The example uses an owner-controlled mint function. It does not include a public sale, payment handling, allowlist, withdrawal logic, pause process, reentrancy protections for a sale, royalty configuration, upgrade system, or audit. Never paste a contract into mainnet and assume it is safe.
Basic project setup
mkdir example-nft
cd example-nft
npm init -y
npm install @openzeppelin/contracts
Pin and review an exact OpenZeppelin release rather than relying blindly on a moving latest dependency. Before mainnet deployment:
- Compile with the intended Solidity version.
- Write tests for minting, transfers, token URIs, access control, invalid addresses, and metadata failures.
- Test unauthorized mint attempts.
- Test royalty calculations if implemented.
- Run static analysis and review dependencies.
- Test the complete buyer flow, including failed and concurrent transactions.
- Obtain an independent audit for contracts holding user funds or implementing complex sale logic.
- Verify the deployed source code through the relevant blockchain explorer.
Test before mainnet
Ethereum.org currently identifies Sepolia as the recommended public testnet for contract and application development. Testnet balances and transaction histories are separate from mainnet. Do not reuse a valuable mainnet account on a testnet or vice versa.
Using Remix, the general deployment path is:
- Compile the contract.
- Open Deploy & Run Transactions.
- Select the target environment.
- Choose Browser Extension to connect a wallet for a public network.
- Confirm the correct chain and constructor parameters.
- Deploy and approve the wallet transaction.
- Copy the deployed contract address.
- Call the mint function and inspect the result.
- Verify the contract source through the explorer or available Remix tools.
Royalties and creator earnings
Three ideas are often incorrectly treated as one:
- Marketplace-configured creator earnings: A platform setting that may apply to sales processed through that platform.
- ERC-2981 royalty signaling: A standard way for a contract to return a suggested recipient and amount.
- Enforcement: Contract or marketplace rules that attempt to prevent or discourage transfers that bypass the configured earnings.
ERC-2981 does not force every marketplace, wallet, peer-to-peer transfer, or custom marketplace to pay the suggested royalty. OpenSea currently supports enforced creator earnings for compatible ERC721-C or ERC1155-C contracts through its Seaport Hooks integration. For collections without compatible enforcement, creator earnings may be optional. Never promise yourself or buyers a percentage from every future resale.
Fees, taxes, and financial records
Marketplace fees
Fees are platform-specific and change over time. According to OpenSea’s fee information dated May 12, 2026, OpenSea typically charges a 1% fee on NFT sales and typically charges 10% on primary NFT drops. OpenSea says there is no OpenSea fee to create a drop, although blockchain gas still applies. These figures are not a universal NFT fee schedule; check the current fee page before launching.

A marketplace charge is separate from gas. Your net proceeds may also be reduced by creator earnings paid to another address, payment-processing costs, currency conversion, storage, advertising, development, and taxes.
U.S. copyright and licensing
Under U.S. copyright law, ownership of a physical or digital copy and ownership of copyright are separate. Minting or buying an NFT does not automatically transfer copyright in the associated artwork. A copyright transfer generally requires an appropriate written instrument signed by the rights owner. For a U.S. project, consult the U.S. Copyright Office NFT and intellectual-property report, its transfer FAQ, and Title 17 provisions.
As the creator, explain whether the buyer can display, resell, commercially exploit, modify, or license the work. As a buyer, do not assume that possession of the token grants any of those rights.

Securities and financial-product risk
Do not assume that every NFT is, or is not, a security. The legal characterization can depend on the rights attached to the token, the sale structure, marketing, profit expectations, and economic arrangement. The SEC distinguishes practical digital tools such as memberships, tickets, credentials, and identity badges from digital securities representing financial instruments.
A project marketed primarily as an investment, with expected profits based on the efforts of others, presents materially different legal risk from a simple artwork, ticket, or credential. Seek qualified legal advice before creating fractionalized NFTs, revenue-sharing tokens, investment-linked collections, or real-world-asset financial products.
U.S. tax records
For U.S. readers, the IRS generally treats NFTs as digital assets and digital assets as property. Sales, exchanges, compensation, and other transactions can create reporting obligations. IRS guidance also addresses Form 1099-DA reporting for broker-effected digital-asset sales after 2025, subject to applicable rules and exceptions.
This is not a calculation of your tax liability. Preserve:
- Contract-deployment and minting costs.
- Media, software, development, audit, and storage expenses.
- Wallet addresses and transaction hashes.
- Sale proceeds and cryptocurrency values in U.S. dollars at the relevant transaction time.
- Marketplace fees and creator-earnings payments.
- Transfers between your own wallets.
- Copies of invoices, licenses, contracts, and buyer-rights terms.
Consult a tax professional familiar with digital assets, especially if you create NFTs as a business or receive cryptocurrency for services.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.How to verify an NFT
Before announcing a collection or buying one, use the blockchain rather than the image alone:
- Confirm the intended blockchain.
- Confirm the official contract address from the creator’s established website or account.
- Check the token ID and supply.
- Check the mint transaction and recipient address.
- Inspect
tokenURIfor ERC-721 orurifor ERC-1155. - Download and validate the metadata JSON.
- Follow the media URI and confirm the expected file.
- Check whether media and metadata are pinned or otherwise maintained.
- Compare the result with the marketplace display after indexing.
A token proves control of a token from a particular contract. It does not by itself prove that the minter had permission to use the artwork or that the marketplace collection is authentic. A visually similar collection can be counterfeit.
Sell safely
Use the official marketplace interface to list the NFT or accept an offer. Never pay a supposed buyer or support agent a separate release, verification, activation, or withdrawal fee. A common scam begins with a fake buyer claiming that a purchase failed, sending a screenshot or fake support link, and requesting cryptocurrency or a wallet signature.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check the blockchain and official account activity instead of trusting screenshots, direct messages, or email links. Never share your recovery phrase. Treat unexpected signature requests, unlimited token approvals, and requests to connect to unfamiliar websites as potential attacks.
Troubleshooting
The wrong network or wallet balance appears
Confirm the wallet address, selected chain, platform creation support, and native gas token. Do not add a random network from an unsolicited message. A platform may support a chain for viewing or swapping but not for NFT creation.
The transaction is pending or timed out
- Check the wallet activity.
- Copy the transaction hash into the explorer for the correct chain.
- Do not resubmit repeatedly until you know whether the first transaction was broadcast.
- If it failed, determine whether the contract rejected it, it ran out of gas, or another buyer won the remaining supply.
A marketplace error does not necessarily mean that no transaction was submitted. Check the chain first.
The drop mint failed or sold out
A pending transaction can lose a race for the remaining supply. The mint may fail even though gas was charged. The creator generally cannot refund blockchain gas through the marketplace.

The NFT exists but the image is missing
Check the chain, contract, token URI, metadata JSON, media URI, MIME type, storage persistence, and marketplace indexing. For a drop, confirm that the reveal transaction was completed. A marketplace message saying content is unavailable can mean that the media and metadata have not yet been revealed.
The wrong image or trait appears
Check token numbering, filenames, extensions, case sensitivity, ERC-1155 hexadecimal padding, cached marketplace metadata, and whether a centralized URL changed. Whether you can correct the problem depends on the contract’s metadata mutability. Blockchain history cannot be rewritten by editing a marketplace description.
You want to delete the NFT
You cannot delete an on-chain token like a computer file. A marketplace may hide it, while burning sends it to an inaccessible address or invokes a burn function if the contract supports one. Burning is irreversible and requires a transaction fee.
The collection is delisted
A marketplace may hide or delist an infringing or misleading collection even though its tokens remain on-chain and in owners’ wallets. The contract address remains the key identifier, but delisting can reduce discoverability and marketplace liquidity.

- Costs: You understand deployment gas, mint gas, marketplace fees, and possible failed-transaction costs.
- Contract: You recorded the contract address, token ID, and transaction hashes.
- Security: You will use only official websites and will not pay a buyer to complete a sale.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I create an NFT for free?
Sometimes a platform offers a free or lazy-minting option, but free usually means that some blockchain work is deferred or paid by another party. Confirm who pays gas, when the token is actually minted, which contract owns it, who becomes the first on-chain owner, and whether the NFT is portable to other marketplaces. A direct contract deployment or mint normally requires gas.
Do I need coding skills or a marketplace?
You do not need coding skills for a no-code creator platform, although you still need a wallet, cryptocurrency for applicable gas, media rights, and careful transaction review. You do not need a marketplace to deploy a custom contract, but a marketplace can provide discovery and sales tools.
Is an NFT the same as the image?
No. The NFT is the blockchain token and its metadata pointer. The image or other media may be stored on IPFS, Arweave, a centralized server, or on-chain. The token can remain on-chain even if its associated media becomes unavailable.
Can I change an NFT after minting?
Sometimes metadata is mutable, but the ability to change it depends on the contract and platform. Changing metadata does not rewrite the blockchain’s ownership history. If the metadata is immutable or the contract has no update function, a mistake may be permanent.
Do I automatically earn royalties on future sales?
No. ERC-2981 can signal royalty information, while some marketplaces or contract systems can enforce creator earnings in particular transactions. It does not guarantee payment across every marketplace, transfer route, or custom contract.
Does the buyer own the copyright?
Not automatically. NFT ownership and copyright ownership are separate. Specify whether the buyer receives personal display, commercial, derivative, licensing, physical-redemption, or other rights. A copyright transfer generally requires appropriate written terms, and laws vary by jurisdiction.
Which blockchain is cheapest?
There is no permanently cheapest choice. Gas changes with network conditions, transaction complexity, and the platform’s support. Choose based on total cost, reliability, buyer access, wallet support, marketplace compatibility, and whether the chain supports the contract features you need.
Can I create an NFT from someone else’s image?
Not safely unless you have the necessary permission or license. Minting a token does not cure copyright infringement and does not prove that you had the right to tokenize the work. Obtain permission for the specific uses and document it.

It may be possible through an official mobile wallet and a platform that supports mobile creation, but mobile interfaces make it especially important to verify the domain, chain, transaction details, and requested signatures. For a custom contract, use a tested development and deployment workflow rather than relying on an unfamiliar mobile tool.
What happens if the marketplace disappears?
The token may remain on the blockchain if the contract and storage continue to function, but the marketplace page, indexing, sales tools, and hosted media may not. Independent contract records, durable storage, offline backups, and a public project website reduce platform dependence.
How do I create a dynamic or generative NFT?
Use a custom contract or platform that supports programmatic metadata, on-chain rendering, or a tokenURI that changes according to defined logic. Test how wallets and marketplaces render it, and document whether the renderer depends on an external server.
The Bottom Line
The safest way to create a first NFT is to decide exactly what the token represents, secure a dedicated wallet, choose a supported chain, use a current no-code collection or drop tool, preserve the media and metadata independently, and verify the contract and token on-chain. Treat gas, platform fees, royalties, copyright, taxes, and scams as part of the project—not as afterthoughts.
