There is no defensible universal winner among OKX, Coinbase, and Kraken based on the available fee and custody disclosures. To compare them fairly, match the same country, product, trading pair, order size, 30-day volume, and likely maker-or-taker execution. Then check the full transaction cost, the specific custody terms, and whether the exact service is available where you live. The information below was checked on October 7, 2026; exchange fees and regional eligibility can change.
How do the fees compare?
A headline trading fee is not necessarily what you will pay. The rate can depend on product, trading pair, account tier, volume, execution type, and location. A market order is generally taker, but order type alone does not determine execution: a limit order that fills immediately can also be taker, while an order that rests on the book may be maker.

Compare like with like
Do not compare an order-book spot fee on one exchange with an app’s instant-buy quote on another as if they were the same service. An instant or simple purchase can have a different price formation and fee structure. Kraken specifically excludes Instant Buy volume from its spot-volume incentives; Coinbase and OKX also describe fees as dependent on product or instrument.
For a useful comparison, record the same scenario for each exchange: your country, the same spot pair, a similar order size, your estimated rolling 30-day trading volume, and whether the order is likely to add or remove liquidity. Then inspect the actual preview before placing an order.

Include costs beyond the commission
Compare the effective price as well as the stated trading commission. OKX explains that a spread is the difference between available buy and sell prices, and says conversion can apply on top of a trading fee. Depending on the route and transaction, also check currency conversion, funding, deposit, withdrawal, and network charges. Their applicability and amount can vary, so use the relevant fee page and transaction preview rather than assuming a charge applies uniformly.
What does each exchange’s custody information tell you?
“Custody” can mean ordinary assets held in an exchange account, a dedicated institutional custody service, or a reserve disclosure. Those are different things. The available information does not provide an apples-to-apples comparison of the three exchanges’ retail custody terms, so read each source for its specific product and legal scope.

When reviewing custody, identify the contracting entity and the specific product, then read its asset, withdrawal, and safeguarding terms. A retail exchange account, institutional custody contract, and proof-of-reserves report answer different questions; none should be used as a substitute for the others.
How can you check whether an exchange is supported in your country?
Availability is a product-by-country question, not just a brand-level yes or no. Account opening, a particular asset, fiat deposits and withdrawals, spot trading, derivatives, staking or rewards, and institutional custody may have different eligibility rules. Local contracting entities and terms can differ as well.

A license or registration can be useful context, but it does not prove that every product is available to every resident in that jurisdiction. Check account eligibility and the exact asset, trading feature, payment method, or custody service separately.

- Set your scenario. Write down your country, product (such as retail spot order-book trading), pair, approximate order size, estimated 30-day volume, and likely maker or taker execution.
- Check the applicable fee information. Open the relevant exchange schedule and confirm the product, pair, tier, and region. For OKX, inspect the order placement panel; for Coinbase, use the signed-in fee information and order preview; for Kraken, confirm the live schedule and the basis for your current tier.
- Compare the order preview. Look at the execution price, spread, and stated fee for the same intended trade. Add any applicable conversion, funding, deposit, withdrawal, or network cost to the comparison.
- Read the custody terms for the product you will actually use. Distinguish an exchange account from institutional custody and from reserve reporting. Note the legal entity, asset terms, and withdrawal conditions that apply to you.
- Verify regional access for each feature. Confirm that you can open or use the account, trade the asset, use the fiat rail, and access any additional service you need in your country.
Because fee schedules and eligibility can change, treat any published rate as a starting point. The signed-in fee view, order preview, and current product-specific regional terms are more relevant to a particular transaction than a single headline percentage or a general statement that an exchange operates in a country.
