To qualify for an Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) monthly old-age pension under the Ministry’s published FAQ, an insured person generally must reach age 60—or age 55 for a woman—and have at least 15 years of contributions. Someone who reaches the applicable age but falls short of 15 years may qualify for a one-time old-age grant if the contribution and other conditions are met. The reported minimum pension increased to Rs 11,500 from 1 January 2025, but confirm the current amount and your individual entitlement with EOBI.

Check whether you may qualify for an old-age pension

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development states that an insured person may qualify for a monthly old-age pension at age 60, or age 55 for a woman, after at least 15 years of contributions. These are the general criteria described in the Ministry’s EOBI FAQ; individual records, exceptions or transitional rules may affect a claim, so ask EOBI to confirm how the rules apply to you.

Reaching the relevant age does not by itself establish eligibility. EOBI must confirm the insured person’s contribution record and whether it meets the applicable conditions.

If you have fewer than 15 contribution years

The Ministry FAQ describes an old-age grant as a possible lump-sum alternative for an insured person who reaches the applicable age but has fewer than 15 years of contributions. It says contributions must have been payable for at least two years and that other conditions also apply. The grant is distinct from a recurring monthly pension; ask EOBI to assess your record rather than assuming that a shortfall automatically qualifies.

Benefit Contribution condition described by the Ministry FAQ Payment type
Old-age pension At least 15 years of contributions, along with the applicable age and other eligibility rules Monthly
Old-age grant Fewer than 15 years, with contributions payable for at least two years and other stated conditions Lump sum

The FAQ does not establish that every person who misses the pension threshold will receive a grant. EOBI must confirm eligibility for the relevant benefit.

What the 2025 minimum-pension increase means

National Assembly materials reported that the minimum pension rose from Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,500, effective 1 January 2025. A Standing Committee announcement dated 28 August 2025 said arrears were scheduled for disbursement from September 2025. A separate National Assembly written answer says the Board of Trustees recommended a 15% increase, the Federal Government approved it on 28 July 2025 and the Ministry issued notification on 31 July 2025. See the committee announcement for the reported amount and arrears timing.

Ask EOBI for the current claim requirements

The Ministry FAQ provides eligibility and contribution information, but the available official material does not establish a current application form, document checklist, submission route, processing time or claim-tracking method. Do not rely on an outdated form or an unofficial checklist. Contact EOBI through its official website and request the current instructions for an old-age pension claim.

  1. Ask for the current old-age pension application form and confirm whether you should apply for a pension or an old-age grant.
  2. Request EOBI’s current list of required documents, accepted filing methods and any steps for checking claim status.
  3. Ask EOBI to verify your recorded contribution years, applicable age rule, current payable amount and any 2025 arrears relevant to your account.
  4. Keep a record of the guidance and any claim reference EOBI provides, then follow the institution’s stated process.

The EOBI app is listed on Google Play, but its listing alone does not establish that it accepts pension applications or provides claim tracking. Confirm its current functions with EOBI before relying on it: EOBI app listing.

How contributions are described

The Ministry FAQ describes the total EOBI contribution as 6% of minimum wages: 5% paid by the employer and 1% deducted from the employee’s salary. This is the contribution arrangement stated in the FAQ, not a way to determine how many years of contributions EOBI has credited to an individual record.

How the pension calculation is presented in older guidance

The Ministry’s Year Book 2021–22 gives this formula: minimum monthly wages multiplied by years of insurable employment, divided by 50. It is historical explanatory material, not a current personalized estimate. Ask EOBI which calculation and applicable wage figure it uses for your claim.

Other EOBI benefits and payment conditions

EOBI’s benefit categories also include invalidity and survivor pensions. If your circumstances involve disability or the death of an insured person, ask EOBI about the relevant category rather than treating it as an old-age pension claim. The EOBI app listing describes these benefit types, but does not replace confirmation of eligibility from the institution.

The Ministry FAQ also says old-age and survivor pension payments are suspended while the entitled person is absent from Pakistan. It does not, in the cited material, specify broader residency or travel rules; seek EOBI’s guidance for an individual case.
