How to Check Your Xbox Gift Card Balance

Sign in to the Microsoft account where you redeemed the card, then visit account.microsoft.com/billing/payments. Microsoft displays your account balance there; the money is held in that Microsoft account, not tracked as a leftover amount on the gift card.

Check your balance online

1. Open Microsoft account billing and payments.
2. Sign in with the Microsoft account where you redeemed the Xbox gift card.
3. Review the balance shown on the account page.

If you use more than one Microsoft account, try the account used when redeeming the code. Microsoft says gift-card value is added to a Microsoft account and cannot be transferred to another account or person. See Microsoft’s gift-card terms.

If you have not redeemed the gift card

Redeem the code before looking for its value in your account. Go to Microsoft’s Redeem code page, sign in to the intended account, and enter or paste the code. Microsoft says the full associated amount is added to that account when redeemed. If the code was purchased incorrectly, Microsoft advises contacting the retailer.

Can you check the balance on an Xbox console?

Microsoft’s balance page links to an Xbox Support guide for checking the balance from a console. Because the guide’s current console instructions are not available here, use the link on Microsoft’s balance-check page for the steps that apply to your device rather than relying on potentially outdated menu directions.

What to know about the balance

• Microsoft describes the funds as your Microsoft account balance. It can be used for eligible purchases through Microsoft Store online, Windows, and Xbox, subject to country, region, product, and other restrictions. See Microsoft’s gift-card redemption guidance.
• Microsoft says non-promotional account balance does not expire and there is no fee for keeping it. Promotional balance may expire under the terms of its promotion; check the account page for any promotional-balance expiration date.
• Spending rules vary by region. For example, Microsoft says gift cards cannot be used to buy hardware in Taiwan. Check the terms that apply to your country before assuming a purchase is eligible.

If the balance does not appear

• Confirm that you signed in to the same Microsoft account used to redeem the code.
• If the code has not been redeemed, complete the redemption process first, then check the account balance.
• If the code was bought incorrectly, contact the retailer. For an account-balance or technical issue, use Microsoft Support’s contact page.
