For Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the published 2026 calendars indicate a normal scheduled trading day for NYSE and Nasdaq listed-equity markets. Their calendars do not list October 13 as a full-day closure or early-close date. A calendar confirms the scheduled session, not whether an unscheduled alert, system issue, or trading halt affects the market right now.
Quick answer for Tuesday, October 13, 2026
NYSE and Nasdaq are scheduled to hold their regular listed-equity sessions on October 13, 2026. The date does not appear on the published 2026 full-day closure lists or early-close lists for those principal equity markets.

That answer describes the annual schedule. It does not prove that every security is trading at this instant, that every affiliated venue is operating, or that no exchange notice has changed conditions. If you need a real-time answer, check the exchange’s current notices after confirming the calendar.

“Is the stock market open today?” usually means: are the NYSE and Nasdaq listed-equity markets scheduled to hold their regular core session on the date in question? To answer reliably, check the official calendar for the venue and product you care about, then check for any same-day operating notice.

- Choose the market and instrument. NYSE and Nasdaq are separate venues, and exchange groups may publish different schedules for different markets or products. Do not assume a listed-equity calendar also covers options, bonds, or every affiliated venue.
- Find the date on the official holiday calendar. Look for both full-day closures and early-close entries. A day that is not a full holiday may still have a shortened session. See the NYSE hours and holiday calendar and Nasdaq holiday and trading-hours schedule.
- Confirm which session you mean. NYSE lists regular core hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time for its principal equity session. Some NYSE markets have earlier or later sessions; those hours are not interchangeable with the core session. The NYSE trading information page provides venue-specific details.
- Check current notices for a same-day answer. Calendars describe scheduled hours. For an operational change, check the exchange’s current alerts or notices. Nasdaq says it sends Trader Alerts about closures and early closes; its Nasdaq Trader calendar points readers to alerts for full information, including system operating hours.
What “open” means—and what it does not
A market can be scheduled to trade without being in its regular session at the moment you check. The principal NYSE equity core session runs from 9:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on a normal session day. Before 9:30 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. ET, the core session is not underway, even if a venue or broker offers a separate extended-hours session.
“Open” can therefore refer to at least three different questions:
- Is the date scheduled? The annual calendar answers whether the exchange plans a full session, an early close, or no session.
- Is the core session running now? Compare the current Eastern Time with the applicable session hours.
- Is a particular order or security tradable? A security, trading venue, or broker may have its own status, halt, or operating limitation.
Likewise, an annual holiday calendar tells you whether a date is scheduled as a full closure or early close. It cannot establish whether an exchange has issued a later operational notice, experienced a system issue, or halted trading in a particular security. For those questions, consult current exchange notices and, where relevant, the status of the specific security or trading venue.
Regular NYSE hours and the meaning of Eastern Time
The standard NYSE core equity session is 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET. Always label the time zone when you communicate an opening or closing time. A statement such as “the market opens at 9:30” is incomplete for readers outside the Eastern Time zone.
To use the published hours in another location, first identify the date and then convert 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time to your local clock. The relevant offset can vary with daylight-saving rules, so do not use a fixed conversion throughout the year. The exchange’s stated time remains Eastern Time even when your local offset changes.
The core session is also different from an early or late session. NYSE publishes additional hours for certain NYSE markets, but those schedules are venue-specific. A broker showing quotes or accepting orders outside 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET does not by itself change the NYSE core schedule.

2026 NYSE and Nasdaq schedule exceptions
The official 2026 schedules list the following full-day closure dates for the principal NYSE and Nasdaq equity schedules. Nasdaq Trader’s 2026 equity and options calendar lists these dates, and the NYSE holiday table lists the same principal dates.
| Full-day closure dates in 2026 | Early-close dates |
|---|---|
| January 1; January 19; February 16; April 3; May 25; June 19; July 3; September 7; November 26; December 25 | November 27 and December 24, with a scheduled 1:00 p.m. ET close |
These are the published dates, not a guarantee that a schedule cannot later be amended. Check the Nasdaq Trader 2026 calendar, NYSE calendar, and Nasdaq schedule for the venue-specific listing and any current notices. The 1:00 p.m. close is Eastern Time; an early close is a shortened trading day, not a full-day holiday.
Full closure versus early close
A full-day closure means the scheduled listed-equity session does not run on that date. An early close means trading is scheduled but ends earlier than the normal 4:00 p.m. ET core close. In the 2026 schedules, the listed early-close time is 1:00 p.m. ET on November 27 and December 24.
Do not treat an early-close date as an ordinary session. The opening time may remain the normal 9:30 a.m. ET core open, but the closing time is materially earlier. If you are planning an order, reviewing a price, or comparing a daily result, record the applicable close explicitly.
Conversely, do not infer that a date is open merely because it is absent from a short holiday list. Verify the complete calendar for the relevant venue and check whether an early-close entry appears separately from the full-closure entries.
NYSE, Nasdaq, and other products are not interchangeable
| Question | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Which venue? | NYSE, Nasdaq, or another exchange or affiliated market. |
| Which instrument? | Listed equities, options, bonds, or another product. |
| Which session? | Regular core hours, an earlier session, a later session, or broker-provided extended hours. |
| Which date? | The exact calendar date, including any observed holiday date shown by the exchange. |
| Which status? | Scheduled hours from the calendar plus any current alert, halt, or operational notice. |
| Which time zone? | Eastern Time for the published NYSE core and early-close times, then the reader’s local conversion. |
Exchange groups can publish venue- and product-specific schedules. The Nasdaq Trader calendar may show equity and options information, but that does not make every Nasdaq product or every other U.S. market identical. A bond-market schedule, an options schedule, and a broker’s extended-hours schedule should each be checked directly.

How to check whether the core session is open right now
- Write down the date in Eastern Time. This prevents a late-night or international time-zone check from being assigned to the wrong trading date.
- Read the calendar entry. Determine whether the date is a full closure, an early close, or a normal scheduled day.
- Apply the relevant session hours. For a normal NYSE core session, compare the current ET time with 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET. For an early-close date, use the published 1:00 p.m. ET close in the 2026 schedule.
- Check the current alert feed. A scheduled open does not rule out a later notice, system issue, or emergency action.
- Verify the product or security if necessary. If the question concerns options, bonds, a particular stock, or an affiliated venue, use that product’s status rather than the general listed-equity answer.
This sequence separates a calendar question from a live-operational question. It also prevents the common mistake of calling the market “closed” merely because the 4:00 p.m. ET core session has ended, or “open” merely because a broker displays an extended-hours quote.
How to read the answer for today
For October 13, 2026, the published annual schedules indicate that NYSE and Nasdaq are scheduled for a normal session: October 13 does not appear among the listed full-day closures or early closes. The regular NYSE core session is 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET. This is a schedule-based answer; use current exchange notices to confirm same-day operating details.
For a different date, use the same method rather than relying on a search result or a generic holiday list: verify the exact date on the relevant exchange calendar, distinguish a full closure from an early close, convert the stated Eastern Time to your local time, and check current notices if you need to know whether trading is operating at that moment.

On Friday, October 9, 2026, the annual NYSE and Nasdaq calendars showed a normal scheduled session. At 10:28 UTC, which was 6:28 a.m. Eastern Time on that date, the NYSE regular core session had not yet started. The example illustrates the difference between “scheduled to open today” and “open at the time I checked.” The date was a normal session day, but the stated check time was before 9:30 a.m. ET.
Common mistakes when checking market hours
- Using only a general holiday list. Exchange calendars identify early closes separately, and a generic list may omit them.
- Ignoring the venue. NYSE and Nasdaq publish their own calendars. A result for one venue should not automatically be applied to another product or market.
- Confusing core and extended hours. Pre-market or after-hours activity does not redefine the regular 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET NYSE core session.
- Forgetting Eastern Time. The 1:00 p.m. early close and the 9:30 a.m. open are ET times, not universal local times.
- Stopping at the annual calendar. A calendar cannot reveal a same-day system issue, emergency closure, or security-specific halt.
- Assuming a broker’s display is the exchange schedule. Broker interfaces may present extended-hours access or product-specific information; verify the underlying venue’s official hours.
- Treating “open” as proof of execution. A scheduled session does not guarantee that a particular order, security, or venue is currently accepting or matching orders.
Where to verify official information
Use the NYSE hours and calendars page for NYSE holiday entries and published hours. Use the NYSE trading information page for details about the applicable NYSE market and session.
For Nasdaq, consult the U.S. Holiday & Trading Hours schedule and the Nasdaq Trader calendar. Nasdaq states that it sends Trader Alerts to remind customers about days when the market will be closed or close early, and directs readers to those alerts for full information, including system operating hours.

Is an early-close day the same as a market holiday?
No. A full-day closure has no scheduled listed-equity session. An early-close day has a session but ends earlier than the normal core close. The 2026 NYSE and Nasdaq schedules list 1:00 p.m. ET early closes on November 27 and December 24.
Does a calendar prove that the market is trading right now?
No. A calendar gives scheduled status. Current exchange alerts are needed for unscheduled closures, system issues, emergency changes, or other operating details. A particular security can also have its own halt or status.
Are pre-market and after-hours trading part of the regular session?
No. NYSE’s principal core session is 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET. Some NYSE markets and brokers offer earlier or later sessions, but those hours are separate and venue-specific.
How do I convert the market’s hours to my local time?
Start with the exchange’s Eastern Time entry, identify the calendar date, and convert 9:30 a.m., 4:00 p.m., or the applicable early-close time to your location. Account for the date’s daylight-saving offset rather than using one fixed conversion all year.
What are the 2026 full-day U.S. stock-market closures listed by NYSE and Nasdaq?
The published principal schedules list January 1, January 19, February 16, April 3, May 25, June 19, July 3, September 7, November 26, and December 25 as full-day closure dates. Confirm the venue-specific calendar before relying on a date.
Where can I confirm a last-minute closure or early close?
Check the NYSE hours and calendars page, the Nasdaq U.S. Holiday & Trading Hours page, and Nasdaq Trader’s calendar and Trader Alerts. Those official notices provide the current operating information that an annual calendar cannot provide.
Was the market open at 10:28 UTC on October 9, 2026?
October 9 was scheduled as a normal session, but 10:28 UTC was 6:28 a.m. Eastern Time. The regular NYSE core session had not begun because it starts at 9:30 a.m. ET.
