Check Zcash’s official ecosystem directory for discovery, then confirm the exact transaction direction and address type in the wallet’s or exchange’s current instructions. A ZEC listing—or even support for one shielded route—does not establish support for every shielded deposit, withdrawal, or wallet transaction.
First, identify the transaction you need
“Supports ZEC” is not specific enough. Decide which action you need the service to handle:

- Shielded receive or deposit: accepting ZEC sent from a shielded address.
- Shielded send or withdrawal: sending ZEC to a shielded address.
- Shielding: moving ZEC from a transparent address into a shielded pool, usually within a wallet.
- Deshielding: moving ZEC from a shielded address to a transparent address.
Support can differ by direction, address or pool, software version, region, and account status. Verify the route you will actually use rather than inferring it from a general ZEC support statement.
Use the Zcash directory as a starting point
Open the official Zcash ecosystem directory and look for the labels that match the service type: shielded by default for wallets and shielded withdrawals for exchanges. The directory distinguishes these capabilities; it is a discovery aid, not a guarantee that a route is currently available to your account.
#1 Best Overall
The live directory’s entries can change. When it was accessed on October 4, 2026, examples of listed wallets included Zodl (formerly branded Zashi), Zingo!, and Edge Wallet, while Gemini appeared with the shielded-withdrawals marker. Confirm any listing against the provider’s current documentation and interface before transferring funds.
Verify a wallet’s receiving and sending behavior
- Open the wallet’s current Zcash help or support material. Check the version and any stated region or account requirements.
- Inspect receiving and sending separately. Confirm the wallet can receive from and send to the address type you intend to use, rather than relying on a generic “Zcash supported” claim.
- Check the address and pool details. Look for explicit support for shielded addresses, unified addresses, and any pool or older address-format restrictions that matter to your route.
- Check default behavior. Zcash’s user guide describes wallets that shield by default, let users choose between private and transparent transactions, or support only transparent transactions. If you want funds received to a unified address to be shielded automatically, confirm that the wallet supports autoshielding and that it is enabled.
Zcash’s usage guide advises: “To ensure your transactions and financial history remain confidential, make sure you’re using a wallet or exchange that is ‘shielded by default.’” Treat that as guidance to check behavior, not as a substitute for confirming the particular operation you need.
Verify exchange deposits and withdrawals independently
An exchange can list and trade ZEC without accepting shielded deposits or enabling shielded withdrawals. Check the exchange’s current official ZEC support page and the deposit or withdrawal screen for the exact direction. A directory marker for shielded withdrawals is evidence for withdrawals only; it does not establish shielded deposit support or availability for every region, account, address type, or moment.

- For a withdrawal, confirm that the exchange allows the destination address type you plan to use.
- Check current operational details, including regional restrictions, account eligibility, minimums, limits, confirmations, fees, and any maintenance notice.
If the exchange provides only a transparent deposit address, the transfer to that address is not shielded end-to-end. A wallet may let you shield the funds afterward, but that separate step does not make the transparent leg private retroactively.

Zcash has transparent addresses, commonly beginning with t, and shielded addresses commonly beginning with z. Sapling addresses include forms beginning with zs; older Sprout forms include zc. These prefixes are useful clues, but they do not prove that a particular service accepts or can send to that address.
Unified addresses combine multiple address types in one format to improve interoperability. A wallet with autoshielding can shield ZEC received to a unified address by default, but the format alone does not prove that an exchange or another wallet accepts it. Confirm compatibility in the receiving provider’s instructions.
Zcash documentation says its wallet interface should clearly disclose unsupported shielded addresses. Its UX checklist says, “If there is no zaddr support, state so clearly,” and gives the suggested error wording, “shielded address are not supported.” If a service’s instructions are unclear, ask its support team to confirm the exact route before sending.

Check the privacy outcome of the whole route
For a shielded-to-shielded transaction, the sender, receiver, and amount are not revealed on the public blockchain. A transparent transaction exposes transparent addresses and amounts. If either endpoint or an intermediate step is transparent, that leg does not have the same on-chain privacy as a shielded-to-shielded transfer. Transaction fees remain visible, and metadata or IP/network linkability can still matter.
Before comparing services, record the direction each supports, address and pool compatibility, whether shielded behavior is default or optional, any autoshielding setting, and current operational restrictions. Evaluate each leg of the route separately; a shielded withdrawal does not prove shielded deposits, and a later shielding step does not conceal an earlier transparent transfer.
Make a first transfer cautiously
- Confirm the sending and receiving services’ current instructions, including the network and supported address type.
- If everything matches, consider sending a small test amount first.
- Wait for confirmation and check the receiving wallet’s balance before sending more.
- Never give a seed phrase or spending key to a provider’s support staff.
The test transfer is a prudent user practice, not a guarantee of future availability; provider rules and service status can change.
