To confirm whether a Utah ballot measure passed, check the official canvass or certification record for the election and jurisdiction where it appeared. Start at Vote.Utah.gov, the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s official voter-information site. A results page can help you find the tally, but the canvass or official certification is the record to use for confirmation.
This article explains how to find the record; it cannot say whether a particular measure passed without the measure’s name or number, election, and—if it was local—county.
Find the right Utah election record
- Identify the election. Note the election date or year and whether the measure was statewide, county, municipal, school-district, or another local question.
- Open the matching election page. On Vote.Utah.gov, use the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s election-results and historical-information pages to locate that election’s results and canvass or certification links. The state’s 2024 election index, for example, links to November general-election results, a statewide canvass, county canvass certifications, and official general-election certification. Follow the links for the election you need rather than assuming a 2024 record applies.
- Choose the record for the measure’s jurisdiction. For a statewide measure, check the statewide canvass and official certification. For a local measure, use the canvass record for the county that administered the election. The state’s November 2024 county canvass index illustrates how county records are organized; select the county and election that match your measure.
- Match the measure exactly. Find its official ballot label or proposition number, then read the “Yes” and “No” totals in the canvass or certification. Do not assume a similarly named measure or a record from another county is the right one.
- Confirm the record is final. Use the official canvass or certification, not a preliminary results display, news report, or campaign summary, as confirmation of the result.
What confirms that a measure passed?
Utah election pages may link to results, canvasses, and official certification as separate records. A results display is useful for locating vote totals, but the canvass or official certification is the record to rely on when confirming the official outcome. The precise result and applicable passage rules must be determined from the record for the specific measure and election; do not infer an outcome from a partial tally or another jurisdiction’s results.
Utah County’s 2024 results page provides an example of this record trail: it labels materials as certified results and provides a statement of votes cast and a signed results certification. That example describes one county and election only; use the corresponding county’s materials for a local measure elsewhere.

How to avoid checking the wrong result
- Election: Verify the date or year. Historical pages may show several elections.
- Jurisdiction: Establish whether the measure was statewide or local, and for a local question use the county that administered it.
- Measure label: Match the official proposition number or ballot wording, not just a shorthand name.
- Record status: Distinguish preliminary results from a canvass or official certification.
If you cannot find the canvass
Return to the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s Election Results, Data & Historical Information page and use the contact information provided there to ask for help locating the relevant election record. Include the measure’s official name or number, election date or year, and county if it was local.
