An entry in a regulatory register does not prove that a particular platform currently offers the token there.
What “available under MiCA” can mean
Availability is not one regulatory yes-or-no. It can refer to the token’s issuer status, a provider’s authority to offer crypto-asset services, or whether a specific provider actually lets customers in a particular country trade, deposit or withdraw the token.
| Question | What to check | What the check does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Does the token’s issuer have the relevant MiCA record? | Search the ESMA MiCA register for the issuer and the token’s category. | That a particular provider lists the token for customers in your country. |
| Can the provider offer crypto-asset services? | Search the register using the provider’s legal entity name; check its authorised services and country information. | That it currently accepts your application or enables every service for you. |
| Can I use this token with this provider in my country? | Read the provider’s country-specific terms and current token notices; check trading, deposits and withdrawals separately. | A permanent guarantee: listings and terms can change. |
MiCA distinguishes e-money tokens (EMTs), which reference one official currency, from asset-referenced tokens (ARTs), which reference another value or right, or a combination. The category matters because it determines which issuer record and provisions to examine. Some crypto-assets outside those two categories follow different white-paper notification and publication steps. Check the token’s documentation rather than assuming that every stablecoin fits the same route.
How to check a token and provider
- Identify the exact token. Record its commercial name, issuer, reference currency or assets, and—where relevant—network or version. A ticker alone may be ambiguous: similar tickers or tokens on different networks can relate to different issuers or records.
- Determine its MiCA category. Check whether it is an EMT or ART, using the issuer’s documentation and the applicable register entry. Do not infer the category from the word “stablecoin” or from the ticker.
- Search ESMA’s MiCA register for the issuer. Use the issuer information for ARTs or EMTs and compare the entry with the token’s exact issuer and category. MiCA Article 109 describes information published in the register, including intended host Member States for ART issuers’ offers.
- Check the register’s freshness and national records. ESMA’s MiCA register page displayed 24 September 2026 as its latest update date; ESMA says its files are updated weekly and that information may not appear immediately after a national authority reports it. Check the date shown when you search, then look for newer information from the relevant national financial regulator.
- Search separately for the service provider. Look up the exchange, broker, custodian or other crypto-asset service provider (CASP) by its legal entity name, not just its consumer-facing brand. Review the authorised services and any host-country information. A group may use different legal entities in different markets.
- Verify the actual product offer for your country. Read the provider’s current country-specific terms and token listing or status notices. Confirm trading, deposits and withdrawals individually, along with any customer or transaction limits. If a material point is unclear, ask the provider and check with the national regulator.
The joint European Supervisory Authorities’ consumer factsheet advises consumers to check both ESMA’s register and the national financial regulator’s website. Under MiCA Article 59, providing crypto-asset services within the Union is restricted to authorised CASPs and specified regulated-institution routes. MiCA Article 62 describes a CASP’s application to its home Member State competent authority; the provider’s authorisation record is a separate check from the token issuer’s record.

How to interpret register entries and white papers
A register record helps you verify regulatory information, but it is not a live availability checker or a guarantee that a token is safe, that you cannot lose money, or that a provider will serve you. ESMA says the crypto-asset white papers listed in its register “have not been reviewed or approved by any competent authority in any Member State of the European Union.” For crypto-assets other than ARTs and EMTs, MiCA Articles 8 and 9 describe notification and publication steps, including communicating intended host Member States; publication does not turn an unreviewed white paper into regulatory approval.
Also distinguish the token’s documentation from the provider’s product terms. A record or white paper can help identify the issuer, category and stated rights; the provider’s own current terms determine what it offers to a customer in a particular country. Neither check substitutes for the other.

What protections to check for an EMT
Protections depend on the token’s category and documentation. The European Supervisory Authorities say EMT holders have a right to redeem at full face value in the referenced currency. That is a specific EMT right, not a claim about every stablecoin or a promise that a holder cannot incur losses in every circumstance.
MiCA Article 51 also requires an EMT white paper to warn that the token is not covered by investor compensation schemes under Directive 97/9/EC or deposit guarantee schemes under Directive 2014/49/EU. Do not treat an EMT’s redemption right as deposit insurance or investor compensation.

A practical comparison checklist
If you are comparing tokens or providers, record the answers side by side rather than comparing only tickers, brands or pegs:
- Token’s exact name, issuer, reference assets or currency, network/version, and category (EMT or ART).
- Issuer’s register entry and the basis of its relevant MiCA status.
- Provider’s legal entity, authorised services and host-country information.
- Whether your country’s customers can trade, deposit and withdraw the token under the provider’s current terms.
- Rights and exclusions stated in the token’s documentation, including any category-specific redemption terms and compensation-scheme disclosures.
What you can conclude from the checks
You can establish whether the register contains relevant issuer and provider information and whether the provider’s published terms currently describe access for your country. You cannot establish live availability from an issuer entry alone, or assume that a brand’s general EU authorisation means every token function is enabled for every customer. Because register data and provider terms can change, use the dates and country-specific records shown at the time you make the decision.
