UPI transaction limits and UPI AutoPay mandates are different controls. A transaction limit caps a one-off payment; a mandate authorizes a recurring payment such as a bill or subscription. Check your app and linked bank for the limit that applies to your account, and manage recurring payments from the mandate controls in your UPI app.
What is the limit for a UPI fund transfer?
NPCI’s FAQ gives the normal UPI limit as up to ₹1 lakh per transaction. It lists higher per-transaction limits for certain payment categories: up to ₹2 lakh for Capital Markets, Collections, Insurance and Foreign Inward Remittances, and up to ₹5 lakh for IPO and Retail Direct Scheme payments. These are category-specific ceilings, not amounts every user can send for any purpose. Your bank or app may impose a lower usable limit. See NPCI’s UPI FAQ.
Also distinguish a per-transaction cap from a daily amount limit or a limit on the number of transfers. The NPCI figures above describe per-transaction limits; they do not establish one universal daily cap for every UPI app and bank.
How to check or change your UPI transaction limit
There is no universal limit-setting menu identified in NPCI’s official guidance. Menu names and whether a cap can be changed vary by app and bank, so check the current controls for the app and linked account you use.
#1 Best Overall
- Open your UPI app and look in Profile, Bank account, or UPI settings for transaction limits or payment controls.
- Check the linked bank account’s limits, including any per-transaction or daily cap shown. If the app does not explain which limit applies, ask the bank or app’s official support channel.
- Change a limit only if the app or bank offers that option. Follow the displayed authentication steps and note whether the change applies immediately or has other conditions.
- Confirm the effective limit in the app or with your bank before relying on it for a time-sensitive or high-value payment.
A higher NPCI category ceiling does not itself raise your personal account limit. The applicable payment category, bank rules and app controls all matter.
How to view all your UPI AutoPay mandates
AutoPay mandates are approvals for recurring payments. Common examples include mobile and electricity bills, EMIs, OTT or other entertainment subscriptions, insurance, and mutual funds, as listed on NPCI’s BHIM product page.

Under NPCI Circular OC-223, dated 7 October 2025, UPI apps must let users view and port active AutoPay mandates from either Manage Bank accounts or a dedicated UPI Autopay section. The exact labels and layout can differ by app. Open one of those sections and select the mandate you want to inspect.
On its details screen, check the merchant, amount, frequency and dates displayed before taking action. If you have just moved to a new app, use that app’s current official help information to confirm where its mandate list is located.

How to pause, modify or revoke a mandate
- Open the mandate list: go to Manage Bank accounts or UPI Autopay, then choose the relevant active mandate.
- Review the mandate details: confirm the merchant and payment terms so you do not change a different recurring authorization.
- Choose the intended action: use the available control to pause, modify or revoke the mandate. The options and labels are app-specific.
- Authenticate the request: payer-initiated AutoPay operations require the UPI PIN under NPCI’s OC-223. Enter it only in the app’s authorized flow; never disclose it to a merchant or support agent. NPCI’s FAQ explains that the PIN authorizes bank transactions.
- Check the mandate list again: confirm the displayed status reflects the action you requested. If it does not, contact your bank or app through its official support channel.
Pausing, modifying and revoking have different effects. Read the confirmation screen carefully and select only the change you intend.

Porting moves a mandate for use in another UPI app; it is distinct from pausing or cancelling the recurring authorization. NPCI’s OC-223 says the user initiates porting from the mandate details page fetched using View Mandate. The circular also limits porting to once in a rolling 90-day period. Review the mandate and destination app carefully before confirming.
Rank #4
NPCI’s circular sets requirements for viewing and porting, but individual app menus and presentation remain app-specific. For a mandate that does not appear or an action that is unavailable, check the app’s official help and contact the bank or app provider.
