How to Check the Status of a GST Notice and Track a Response

Use the GST Portal path that matches your notice: general case details, refund ARN replies, or enforcement case details. GSTN’s separate Check Status tool tracks helpdesk tickets.

To check an Indian GST notice, sign in to the GST Portal and use the route for that notice’s workflow. For general notice or order case details, go to Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. For a notice connected to a refund application, search the refund ARN under My Applications > Refunds and open Replies. The separate Self Service Portal’s “Check Status” page tracks GSTN helpdesk tickets, not tax notices.

Choose the right place to check your GST notice

The portal route and status depend on the kind of notice or application. These official instructions describe specific workflows; they do not establish one universal status label or navigation path for every GST notice.

What you are tracking Where to look What the status or record tells you
General notice or order case details GST Portal: Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders Open the relevant record and inspect its case details and available tabs. The GST Council-hosted instructions give a route for specified notice/order cases, not every notice type. GST Council meeting material
Notice while a refund application is being processed GST Portal: Services > User Services > My Applications > Refunds; search by ARN, select the ARN, then open Replies For the refund workflow described by GSTN, a filed reply changes the application status to “Pending for Order-Reply Received.” GSTN refund FAQ
Enforcement notice GST Portal: Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders; select View, then open Case Details The NACIN enforcement manual describes notice and reply controls in this case view. Its instructions are specific to the enforcement workflow. NACIN Enforcement Module, Book 2
GSTN technical support complaint GSTN Self Service Portal: Check Ticket / Issue Status Checks progress on a helpdesk issue using a ticket reference number, GSTIN, or email ID, plus a captcha; it does not show tax-notice status. GSTN ticket status page

How to check a notice and track a response

For a general notice or order case

  1. Sign in to the GST Portal using the taxpayer account associated with the relevant GSTIN.
  2. Open Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders.
  3. Find the relevant record and select View to open its case details.
  4. Inspect the case tabs, such as Notices, Replies, and Orders where those tabs appear in the workflow. Check for the notice, any filed response, and later orders or communications. The GST Council-hosted material documents this route for specified cases, so follow the live case page if its labels differ. GST Council meeting material

For a refund-related notice

  1. In the GST Portal, go to Services > User Services > My Applications > Refunds.
  2. Search for the refund application using its ARN and select the matching record.
  3. Open Replies to check the response record. GSTN says that, in this refund workflow, filing a reply changes the application status to “Pending for Order-Reply Received.” That label describes this workflow and should not be assumed to apply to other notices. GSTN refund FAQ

For an enforcement notice

  1. Open Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders and select View for the relevant record.
  2. Open Case Details, then inspect the Notices tab and the issued notice.
  3. In the NACIN enforcement workflow, the manual describes an Upload Reply link in the Reply column of the Issued Notices table. Use the live case page’s current instructions, then return to the case record to verify that the reply appears. The manual is dated 2024. NACIN Enforcement Module, Book 2

How to tell whether your reply is recorded

Check the response area for the notice or application and look for the submitted reply or its acknowledgement. In the refund workflow documented by GSTN, the application status “Pending for Order-Reply Received” indicates a reply was received in that process. In the described enforcement workflow, check Case Details after using the reply control. Keep the acknowledgement or other submission record with your files.

A reply appearing in the portal confirms a record in that workflow; it does not, by itself, establish that the tax authority has accepted the reply on its merits, that a demand is extinguished, or that the matter is finally disposed. Check for a later order or communication. The official material describes workflow-specific behavior, not a single legal effect shared by every status label. Keep the details needed to follow the case

  • GSTIN and the portal account used to access the case.
  • Notice reference or case details; for a refund, the ARN.
  • Notice issue date and the reply due date shown in the notice or portal.
  • Reply submission acknowledgement and any later orders or communications.

Use the deadline and instructions stated in the notice and case record. If you cannot locate the case or the labels differ, follow the notice-specific instructions or seek case-specific advice from a qualified GST professional.

Why the GSTN “Check Status” page may show no notice

The Self Service Portal’s Check Ticket / Issue Status function is for a support complaint, not for tracking a tax notice. It asks for one of a ticket reference number, GSTIN, or email ID, as well as a captcha, to check issue-resolution progress. Use it when you are following up on a GSTN technical support ticket; use the GST Portal’s notice or application record for a tax case. GSTN ticket status page

Some status labels apply only to particular applications

The Uttar Pradesh Commercial Tax Department’s older Back Office Manual gives “Pending for Clarification” and “Pending for Order” as examples in an LUT-specific workflow. These labels are not a general key for interpreting every GST notice. Uttar Pradesh GSTN Back Office Manual
