How to Check the Currency, Exchange and Trading Hours for a China Construction Bank Quote

CCB’s Hong Kong H-shares use ticker 939 and trade in HKD; its Shanghai A-shares use ticker 601939 and trade in RMB. Confirm the listing and consult that exchange’s current calendar before interpreting a quote or placing an order.

Start by matching China Construction Bank Corporation’s ticker to its exchange: 939 is the Hong Kong-listed H-share, quoted in Hong Kong dollars (HKD); 601939 is the Shanghai-listed A-share, quoted in renminbi (RMB). Then check that exchange’s current trading calendar and local session times. A quote page’s location or a broker’s acceptance of an order does not establish the quote currency or mean the market is open.

Identify the listing before reading the price

China Construction Bank Corporation has two listings relevant to a quote lookup. Its H-shares trade on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) Main Board under code 939. Its A-shares trade on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) under code 601939. CCB’s investor information confirms the codes and venues, and its 2024 annual report also identifies the listing exchanges and codes.

Share class Ticker Exchange Trading currency
H-share 939 Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) Main Board Hong Kong dollars (HKD)
A-share 601939 Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) Renminbi (RMB)

These are shares listed on different exchanges, not a single quote displayed in two formats. CCB’s disclosure dated 30 March 2025 states that its A-shares are listed on the SSE and traded in RMB, while its H-shares are listed on the HKEX and traded in Hong Kong dollars. See the CCB investor FAQ, the 30 March 2025 CCB disclosure, and the CCB Annual Report 2024.

Check the quote’s currency and source

  1. Confirm the ticker and venue. Look for 939 and HKEX, or 601939 and SSE. If a provider shows only “China Construction Bank,” open its security details rather than assuming which listing it means.
  2. Read the displayed currency. Verify HKD for ticker 939 and RMB for ticker 601939. Do not infer the currency from the website’s locale, your account’s home currency, or the company name.
  3. Check the quote timestamp and data label. A ticker identifies the listing but does not tell you whether a quote is live, delayed, or otherwise subject to the provider’s terms. The available CCB (Asia) information says securities customers can view quotes before placing an order, and describes a chargeable streaming-quote feature. It does not establish that every quote source is real-time or free.

CCB (Asia) says its streaming quote feature requires a securities trading account and online banking, and an application through a branch. This describes that bank’s service, not a requirement for checking a quote with another provider. Details are on its online securities FAQ.

Check the right market calendar and local session

Trading hours depend on the exchange listing the ticker. For 939, consult HKEX; for 601939, consult SSE. Check the date, the exchange’s local timezone, public holidays, and any current special arrangements. CCB’s published materials do not provide a complete current ordinary-hours schedule for both exchanges, so use the exchanges’ own current schedules rather than relying on a general hours figure.

An order interface may accept instructions while the exchange is closed. CCB (Asia) says orders entered outside market hours or on a non-trading day are treated as instructions for the next relevant trading day. That is broker-specific order handling; it does not extend exchange trading hours. Its FAQ also says Northbound Trading orders can be placed only during Shanghai market hours.

Understand the Hong Kong closing auction figures

CCB (Asia)’s FAQ gives the following closing-auction subperiods for eligible Hong Kong securities. These are auction stages, not a complete schedule of ordinary trading hours; confirm current exchange arrangements and whether the security is eligible before using them for a particular quote.

Auction stage Full trading day Half trading day
Reference-price fixing 16:00–16:01 12:00–12:01
Order input 16:01–16:06 12:01–12:06
No cancellation 16:06–16:08 12:06–12:08
Random close 16:08–16:10 12:08–12:10

The times above are the auction periods described by CCB (Asia), not a substitute for HKEX’s current calendar, ordinary session schedule, or notices about disruptions and special trading arrangements. The FAQ is available at CCB (Asia)’s securities FAQ.

Quick checklist for a CCB quote

  • 939: H-share, HKEX Main Board, HKD; check the HKEX calendar and local session.
  • 601939: A-share, SSE, RMB; check the SSE calendar and local session.
  • Confirm the provider’s quote currency and timestamp instead of assuming the data is live.
  • Treat broker order acceptance outside market hours as order handling, not proof that the exchange is open.
