Check both the GST portal and the email address registered to your GST account. Sign in to the official portal and open Dashboard > Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders; also search the registered mailbox, including spam or junk. An email alert may be missed, and the absence of one does not by itself show that no notice is available.
Find notices and orders on the GST portal
- Navigate directly to the official GST portal and sign in to the taxpayer account. If you cannot access the account, use the portal’s login-help and username or password recovery options, which use registered contact channels. Avoid signing in through links in unsolicited messages. GSTN explains login and recovery in its login and password-management tutorial.
- From the dashboard, go to Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. This route is documented in Goods and Services Tax Council material for the 54th GST Council Meeting.
- Find the relevant item and select its View link to open the case details. Depending on the case, the page may have separate notice, application, or order tabs and different available actions.
- Open the document and identify its form, issuing authority, relevant tax period, requested action, and stated due date.
The CBIC instruction index lists an instruction dated 23 November 2023 concerning service of a notice summary in FORM GST DRC-01 and electronic uploading of an order summary in FORM GST DRC-07. These are specific summaries; do not assume every notice type follows the same document workflow. See the GST Council’s CGST Instructions index.
Check the registered email account
Search the inbox for the email address recorded with the GST account, then check spam or junk. GSTN’s existing-taxpayer enrolment tutorial says: “All future correspondences from the GST Common Portal will be sent on this registered e-mail address and mobile number only.” This describes the contact details recorded in that enrolment flow; it is not a guarantee that every notice will generate a delivered email alert. GSTN also advises checking spam if an expected email or OTP is missing.
If the registered mailbox belongs to a former employee or adviser, or you otherwise cannot access it, address access and contact-detail maintenance through the proper GST account process. Do not provide your password or OTP in response to an email or enter them on a page reached through a suspicious link.

Why you need to check both channels
Section 169 of the CGST Act lists multiple modes of service, including communication to the email address provided at registration or later amended, and making a communication available on the common portal. The text is reproduced in the Goods and Services Tax Council’s 52nd GST Council Meeting material. The portal and registered email are therefore both relevant places to look; an email alert is not the only reason to check the portal.
| Channel | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| GST portal | After signing in, open View Additional Notices/Orders and the item’s case details. | A communication may be made available on the common portal. |
| Registered email | Search the registered address’s inbox and spam or junk folders. | Email is also a recognized communication channel, but an inaccessible mailbox or missed message can leave you unaware of correspondence. |
Read the notice before deciding what to do
There is no single response deadline that applies to every GST notice. The required action and due date depend on the specific document and case. Read the notice or order itself, including its form, issuing authority, tax period, requested action, and deadline; do not infer the deadline from an email notification or from another notice type.

These steps help locate a document, but they do not determine whether service was legally effective in a particular case or whether a notice is valid. If the deadline, demand, or required response is unclear, seek advice from a qualified Indian GST practitioner or compliance adviser.

Use the portal safely
- Type or use a trusted bookmark for the official GST portal rather than following a login link in an unsolicited email.
- Never share account credentials or OTPs. GSTN’s portal guidance cautions against disclosing confidential information and following suspicious email URLs.
- If access or contact details need updating, use the account’s proper portal process rather than replying with sensitive information to a message.
