Eligible Texas residents can change the address on an existing driver license online through the state’s TxT digital assistant. Check the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) eligibility requirements first; if you cannot use TxT, follow the current DL-64 form or DPS instructions for your situation. DPS requires you to report an address change within 30 days.

Change your address online through TxT

  1. Open the Texas.gov driver services page and follow its link to TxT, the state’s digital assistant for eligible driver-license transactions. Use TxT rather than an old bookmark to the former standalone application, which is no longer available.

  2. Review the DPS online-services eligibility requirements before starting. The final eligibility decision depends on DPS’s records and the transaction you request.

  3. Complete the address-change transaction in TxT and verify the fee shown before paying. DPS says a new credential validating the change will be mailed.

Check whether you qualify for the online service

DPS’s eligibility page says the online address-change or replacement route generally requires that you:

  • Are at least 18 years old and have a Social Security number on file with DPS.
  • Have a non-expired credential. If your license is expired, DPS says you may change the address while renewing it, but you cannot use the online replacement route for an expired card.
  • Do not hold a provisional or learner license. For a driver license, online change or replacement is also restricted if the license is suspended, revoked, or disqualified.

Because these are record-based requirements, use the DPS eligibility check rather than assuming you qualify from the list alone.

Report the change within 30 days

The Texas DPS DL-64 change-of-address form states: “A change of address must be reported to DPS within 30 days.” This deadline applies even if you choose a non-online route.

If TxT is not an option

Use the current DL-64 form

DL-64 is DPS’s official change-of-address and replacement form. Its instructions cover valid Texas non-commercial driver licenses and ID cards and direct online customers to TxT. If you are reporting by mail, download the current form and follow its mailing instructions; do not rely on an address copied from an older version.

If you are temporarily outside Texas

DPS describes a mail-in change or replacement option for some people temporarily living outside the state. Eligibility and required information differ from the online route; the out-of-state instructions include requirements related to citizenship or lawful presence, Social Security information on file, and credential validity. Check the current DPS out-of-state driver license and ID instructions before mailing anything.

What the address change costs

DPS materials list $11 for an address change or replacement in some contexts, but the current fee information does not make the address-only charge entirely clear. Check the amount shown in TxT or on the DPS driver license fees page when you submit the transaction; rely on the amount presented for your specific request.

What the Texas address change does not update

A driver-license address transaction is for your DPS credential. The state sources do not say it automatically changes your address with vehicle registration, voter registration, USPS, an insurer, or other organizations. Update those records separately where needed. Use Texas.gov or DPS as your starting point; DPS warns consumers about private websites that are not government services.
