How to Care for Gold Jewellery to Prevent Scratches and Tarnish

How to clean gold jewellery gently
Check the care instructions. Follow the maker’s guidance, especially for plated pieces, gemstones, glued settings or unusual finishes.
Wipe after wearing. Use a clean, soft, slightly damp cloth to remove everyday residue.
Address buildup cautiously. For a piece that can safely be brushed, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and an appropriate cleaner, working gently around crevices. If you are unsure about the metal, stone or construction, ask a jeweller rather than experimenting.
Dry completely. Use a soft cloth and make sure the piece is dry before putting it away.
Cleaning advice is not universal: chemicals can damage or discolour precious metals and may harm coloured gems.
