If you submitted a Steam refund request and changed your mind, contact Steam Support while signed in and ask whether the pending request can still be withdrawn. Steam’s published guidance does not describe a self-service cancellation button, and support does not promise it can stop a request already in progress. If Steam has approved the refund, check its status and the payment method before assuming the money is missing.
How to ask Steam to withdraw a pending refund
- Go to Steam Help and sign in to the account used for the purchase.
- Open Purchases and select the relevant purchase or existing support item, if it appears. Steam’s documented refund path starts from Purchases; the exact options shown can depend on your account and request.
- Contact Steam Support and say plainly that you want to withdraw the pending refund request. Include the game or purchase title, approximate purchase date, and any request details you have.
- Check the request status for Steam’s response. Its public guidance does not say a pending refund can definitely be stopped, so submitting a message is a request, not a guaranteed cancellation.
If Steam has already approved the refund
An approved refund may take time to appear. Steam says refunds to the original payment method can take up to seven days, while Steam Wallet credit may take 24–48 hours. The timing depends on the payment method and processing, so check your purchase history and payment account before contacting support about a delay. See Steam’s Common Refund Questions.

If a transaction was cancelled within 24 hours, it may not show as a credit because the payment was never collected and the bank later released its authorization hold. In that situation, the change may appear as the disappearance of a pending charge rather than a refund deposit.
A Steam refund is not a bank chargeback
A refund request is submitted to Steam through its support system. A chargeback is initiated with your bank or payment provider and is a separate dispute process; it does not cancel a Steam support request. If you do not recognize a charge or believe it was unauthorized, Steam directs customers to contact Steam Support about payment disputes and chargebacks. Do not start a bank dispute simply to withdraw a refund request.

Refund eligibility is a separate question
For games, Steam’s general policy is that a refund request should be made within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. These are general terms, not an absolute bar: Steam says customers may still submit requests outside them for review. Use the purchase or existing support item to explain the issue and ask Steam to review it. Steam’s refund FAQ says a customer can resubmit an inquiry if it was mishandled; that is different from withdrawing a pending request or reversing an approved refund. Keep the communication within Steam Support so the response is attached to the account and purchase.
