To stop a subscription, first find out who bills you. Check the receipt email or bank statement: subscriptions billed by Apple are managed through your Apple Account, Google Play subscriptions through the Google Account that owns them, and direct- or carrier-billed subscriptions through that provider. The phone you use now—and where you downloaded the app—does not necessarily tell you who controls the recurring charge.
Find the company billing you
Search your email for a receipt from Apple or Google Play, then compare it with the charge on your bank or credit-card statement. The name on the receipt or statement is the best starting point for identifying the billing platform.

| What you find | Where to cancel |
|---|---|
| Apple receipt or Apple charge | Apple Account subscriptions, using one of the Apple routes below. |
| Google Play receipt or Google Play charge | Google Play subscriptions, signed in to the Google Account that owns the subscription. |
| Charge from the app developer or service | The service’s website or customer support; it may bill you directly rather than through Apple or Google. |
| Charge from a wireless carrier or another provider | That carrier or provider’s account or customer support. |
An app can be downloaded from one store while its subscription is billed elsewhere. For example, Apple says Apple Music or Apple TV purchased on Android but billed through Google Play must be canceled in Google Play. If billed directly by Apple, use Apple’s account website instead. Apple’s cancellation guidance explains how to identify the billing source.
Cancel an Apple-billed subscription
On iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll down.
- Follow the confirmation prompts.
If there is no Cancel Subscription button, or the screen shows an expiration message in red, Apple says the subscription is already canceled.

On a Mac
- Open the App Store and click your name. If your name is not shown, click Sign In.
- Click Account Settings.
- Scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage.
- Select the subscription and click Cancel Subscription.
A missing cancel button or a red expiration message indicates that Apple considers the subscription canceled.
On Windows
- Open the Apple Music or Apple TV app and click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Choose View My Account and sign in if prompted.
- In Settings, find Subscriptions and click Manage.
- Find the subscription, click Edit, then click Cancel Subscription.
If you use an older version of iTunes, Apple also documents this route: Account → View My Account → Settings → Subscriptions → Manage → Edit → Cancel Subscription.
On the web
Sign in at account.apple.com with the Apple Account associated with the subscription, then follow the subscription controls. Signing in to the service’s own website does not necessarily manage a subscription billed by Apple.

Cancel a Google Play subscription
On Android
Open the Google Play subscriptions page, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts. You can also open Google Play and navigate to its subscriptions section.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA settings-based route is Settings → Google → your name → Manage your Google Account → Payments & subscriptions → Manage subscriptions. Labels around Settings can differ by Android manufacturer and software version, so the Google Play subscriptions page is the more direct route.
On a computer
- Go to Google Play subscriptions and sign in to the Google Account that owns the subscription.
- Select the subscription and click Manage.
- Click Cancel subscription.
- Choose a reason in the confirmation window, click Continue, and complete the prompts.
Google Play subscriptions are tied to an account. If a subscription is missing, switch among your Google Accounts and check the receipt email for the account used to buy it. Uninstalling the app does not cancel its subscription; manage it from the account that owns it. Google’s cancellation instructions cover account and plan details.

What cancellation changes—and what it does not
Cancellation usually turns off future renewal; it does not necessarily end access immediately. Google says access to a canceled subscription normally continues through the time already paid for. Apple’s terms say subscription-dependent access ends when the subscription ends, so check the expiration date shown in the subscription screen or receipt. Apple’s media services terms describe its renewal and access rules.
Cancellation is separate from a refund. It does not by itself promise money back for a charge already made. After canceling, save the confirmation screen or email and check that the next renewal has been replaced by an expiration date or otherwise shows renewal is off.
Trials, prepaid plans, payment plans, and pauses
Free or discounted trials
Apple advises canceling a free or discounted trial at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid renewal. Use the trial’s stated end time and applicable service terms as your guide, and cancel earlier rather than waiting until the final hours. A trial started directly with a provider may have a different cancellation process. Apple’s cancellation page and its media services terms state the 24-hour guidance.

Google Play prepaid plans
A prepaid plan has a fixed duration and normally expires automatically, so it does not require the ordinary recurring-subscription cancellation. Google says a refund may be available for an unused prepaid plan; eligibility is not automatic.
Google Play payment plans
A payment plan is not the same as an ordinary monthly subscription. Google says that once the payment method has been charged for a plan, you cannot cancel its remaining payments. You can stop the plan from renewing, but you remain responsible for installments on the current plan, and access may continue until its period ends. A refund is a separate request under Google Play’s refund policy.
Pausing instead of canceling
For some Google Play subscriptions, you can choose Pause payments instead of canceling: open Google Play subscriptions, select the subscription, tap Manage, choose Pause payments, select a pause period, and confirm. Google says available pauses can range from one week to three months depending on the app and subscription; a pause takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Apple’s standard cancellation flow does not provide a universal pause option; alternatives depend on the service.

If the subscription is missing
For an Apple charge
- Search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple,” then check which Apple Account appears on it.
- Sign in to that account and check Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or use the applicable Mac, Windows, or web route above.
- If a family member’s Apple Account is on the receipt, that family member must cancel; one person cannot cancel another family member’s subscription.
- If there is no Apple receipt, use the bank or card statement to identify the actual billing company. Contact the carrier or other provider if it billed you.
For a Google Play charge
- Switch among Google Accounts in Google Play and check the account email for the original receipt.
- Compare the charge descriptor with the receipt. If the developer or service billed you directly, cancel through that provider.
- If you deleted the app, you do not need to reinstall it to stop renewal; use the Google Account that owns the subscription.
If neither platform shows the charge, do not keep trying to cancel through the wrong account: identify the billing company from the receipt or statement and contact that provider.
Request a refund separately
For an Apple purchase, report the issue at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple’s policies and applicable law determine whether a refund is granted. For a Google Play purchase, use the refund process linked from Google Play’s subscription help. Neither cancellation nor stopping renewal guarantees a refund, and a refund request does not replace canceling a subscription that is still set to renew.
Quick Recap
Confirmation checklist
- You identified the company charging you from the receipt or statement.
- You used the Apple Account, Google Account, or provider account connected to that charge.
- The subscription screen confirms cancellation or shows an expiration rather than a future renewal.
- You saved the confirmation and noted the date access is expected to end.
- If you want money returned, you submitted a separate refund request.
