The result is an estimate, not a guaranteed return: Bitcoin price, network difficulty, transaction-fee conditions, uptime, payout rules and provider terms can all change.
What “real yield” means in a Bitcoin mining contract
A mining contract usually sells access to a specified amount of computing power for a stated period. Its headline output may be quoted as BTC per day, projected BTC for the term, or a historical average. None of those figures is automatically your profit.

If you paid fees in fiat, calculate the cash result separately:
net fiat scenario = (net BTC × stated BTC price assumption) − total fiat costs
This separation matters. The contract can credit the same BTC amount while the BTC price changes, so a token yield and a fiat return are different outcomes. A projected amount should be described as an estimate or scenario, never as a guaranteed yield.

Start by transcribing the entire offer
Do not begin with the provider’s yield percentage. Copy the economic terms into a worksheet first. Provider contracts use different definitions for duration, fees and payouts, and a rate that looks cheap can become expensive when another charge is added.
| Input | What to record | Why it changes the result |
|---|---|---|
| Hashrate | Amount and unit, such as TH/s | Determines your share of network work and may be the basis for recurring charges. |
| Operating period | Actual billable days, expected start time and whether the clock begins at purchase or when computing power goes online | A 30-day contract can deliver fewer or more calendar days of mining if its definition is different. |
| Hashrate fee | Rate, unit, payment timing and whether it is refundable | Some offers charge a daily amount per TH/s; others bundle it into a quoted price. |
| Electricity charge | Formula, rate, currency and whether it can vary | Electricity may be a separate daily charge or included in the advertised price. |
| Delivery rule | Uptime or online-hashrate formula, measurement period and remedy for short delivery | You cannot earn the quoted output if the contracted hashrate is not online. |
| Payout method | FPPS, PPS, PPLNS or another method; treatment of subsidy and transaction fees | The method determines which rewards are shared and when they are credited. |
| Pool deduction | Pool fee and whether the quoted BTC is gross or net | Subtracting a fee twice materially understates your result. |
| Account and withdrawal costs | Minimum payout, withdrawal, network, currency-conversion or account fees | Small balances can lose a large percentage to fixed charges or remain unpaid below a threshold. |
| Exit terms | Refund, cancellation, suspension and early-termination rules | A contract that cannot be cancelled leaves you exposed if economics deteriorate. |
For example, Binance’s cloud-mining documentation defines the duration from when computing power goes online, separates hashrate and electricity fees, and describes a delivery remedy. Those are provider-specific terms, not universal industry rules. Read the contract in force on the date you buy.
Understand what the mining reward contains
The Bitcoin Developer Guide explains that the reward collected by a block’s coinbase transaction consists of a block subsidy plus transaction fees paid by transactions included in that block. Your contract therefore depends on two moving components, not just the subsidy.
Transaction fees reflect demand for block space and the size of transactions. They can be high during congestion and low when demand falls. Network difficulty or total network hashrate also changes the amount of work required to earn a share of rewards. Miner efficiency and electricity costs affect providers’ economics, even when those costs are not visible in your quoted BTC output.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Most contracted computing power is assigned to a mining pool rather than mining alone. The Bitcoin Developer Guide describes pooled mining as sharing rewards in proportion to contributed hashing work, subject to the pool’s accounting method. The contract’s payout rule determines how that share is calculated and which deductions are made.
Calculate expected BTC output step by step
1. Define the effective mining period
Convert the contract term into billable operating days. Use the agreement’s definition, not an assumption that purchase time equals mining time. Record the expected start timestamp, scheduled end timestamp and any maintenance or activation period.
If the provider promises a minimum delivery percentage, apply it to the contracted hashrate or to the output estimate, depending on the wording. Do not treat a service-level remedy as extra profit; it may be a refund, extension or credit with conditions.
2. Record the assumptions behind the output estimate
Save the date and inputs used by the provider’s calculator, including network difficulty or hashrate, expected block reward, transaction-fee assumptions, contract hashrate and delivery rate. A calculator is an input to your model, not evidence that future awards will match it.

A simplified expected-share model is:
expected BTC before contract-specific deductions ≈ (contract hashrate ÷ network hashrate) × expected network BTC rewards during the operating period
The model is intentionally simplified. Actual pool accounting may use accepted shares, stale shares, luck, settlement windows and other rules. Use the contract’s stated formula when it provides one, and document every assumption you cannot verify.
3. Identify whether the quote is gross or net
Ask whether the displayed BTC includes the pool’s management fee, electricity, a hashrate charge or any other deduction. In an FPPS arrangement, verify whether both the subsidy and an allocation for transaction fees are included. A company-specific SEC filing from BitMine Immersion Technologies describes FPPS accounting as a share of expected network rewards with fee treatment, less mining-pool fees; that filing is an example of one company’s arrangement, not a universal FPPS formula.
Binance’s official cloud-mining help page warns that “historical output is not an accurate prediction of future output.” Treat historical output as a record of a past period under past network conditions, not as a promise.
4. Adjust for delivered hashrate
If the contract reports online delivery, calculate the delivered ratio:
total hashrate online rate = total hashrate delivered ÷ purchased hashrate × mining duration
Apply that ratio only when the contract’s output estimate assumes 100% delivery and the terms permit a proportional adjustment. Some agreements provide credits or extensions instead of a simple reduction. Follow the stated remedy.
Binance documents a 95% minimum total-hashrate-online rate by the end of the subscription period under its described terms. That is a provider-stated service level, not an industry standard and not proof that every product will meet it.
Subtract every fee exactly once
Hashrate fees
When priced per unit per day, use:
hashrate fees = rate per hashrate unit per day × purchased hashrate × billable days
Check whether the rate applies to purchased hashrate or the amount actually online, and whether the provider can change it during the term.
Electricity fees
If electricity is also quoted per unit per day:
electricity fees = stated electricity charge × contract hashrate × billable days

Otherwise use the provider’s actual formula. It may be based on machine power consumption, a daily hosting amount or a percentage of mined revenue.
Pool and payout deductions
Add a pool fee only if it has not already been netted from the quoted BTC. Add account, withdrawal, network, currency-conversion or transaction charges only when the specific contract or account imposes them. A historical SEC example reported a 0.3% pool management fee for BitMine’s described pool use during the year ending August 31, 2024; that figure is company-specific and should not be treated as a market-wide rate.
Avoid double-counting
- If the quote says “net of pool fee,” do not subtract the pool fee again.
- If the headline price includes electricity, do not add a second electricity line.
- If a fee is taken in BTC before crediting your account, include it in the gross-to-net bridge once.
- If a fee is charged in fiat at purchase, include it in total fiat costs rather than converting it into BTC unless you deliberately choose that presentation.
Convert the result to fiat and calculate break-even
After all BTC deductions, calculate the token result:
net BTC = credited BTC − BTC-denominated fees not already deducted
Then state the BTC price, currency and date used for a cash scenario:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutenet fiat scenario = (net BTC × BTC price assumption) − total fiat costs
For a break-even scenario, divide total fiat costs by net BTC, provided net BTC is positive:
break-even BTC price = total fiat costs ÷ net BTC
This is the BTC price at which the modeled proceeds equal the modeled costs. It is not a forecast and does not account for taxes, liquidity or the opportunity cost of tying up funds unless you add those items explicitly.
Illustrative calculation
The following numbers are hypothetical arithmetic to show the method; they are not a provider quote or a profitability prediction.
| Item | Illustrative assumption | Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| Contract hashrate | 100 TH/s | Used for output and daily charges |
| Operating period | 30 billable days | Contract-defined period |
| Estimated BTC before pool deduction | 0.000300 BTC | Provider estimate under recorded network assumptions |
| Pool fee | 2% of estimated BTC | 0.000006 BTC |
| Net BTC credited | 0.000294 BTC | 0.000300 − 0.000006 |
| Hashrate charge | $0.01 per TH/s per day | $0.01 × 100 × 30 = $30 |
| Electricity charge | $0.08 per TH/s per day | $0.08 × 100 × 30 = $240 |
| Withdrawal fee | $3 | Added once |
| Total fiat costs | $273 | $30 + $240 + $3 |
| BTC price scenario | $60,000 | Assumption for illustration only |
| Gross value of net BTC | $17.64 | 0.000294 × $60,000 |
| Net fiat scenario | −$255.36 | $17.64 − $273 |
| Break-even BTC price | About $928,571 | $273 ÷ 0.000294 |
The example demonstrates why a BTC amount alone is not a yield calculation. Replace every illustrative input with the contract’s actual quote, fee schedule, delivery record and a clearly dated BTC price assumption.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does FPPS guarantee profit?
No. FPPS, or Full Pay Per Share, describes a payout method, not a profitability guarantee. The method can estimate a value for valid shares using expected subsidy and transaction-fee rewards, then apply the pool’s fee rules. Your contract can still lose money because the BTC price may fall, the network may become more competitive, transaction fees may differ from the estimate, hashrate may be delivered late, or fixed charges may exceed the value of mined BTC.

Check four FPPS details in the contract:
- Whether the payout includes an allocation for transaction fees as well as the block subsidy.
- Whether the quoted amount is before or after the pool fee.
- How rejected or stale shares and maintenance periods are handled.
- When rewards are settled and whether a minimum payout delays withdrawal.
Compare two contracts on equal assumptions
Never compare headline yield percentages when one provider quotes gross BTC and another quotes net BTC. Recalculate both offers using the same BTC price scenario, network-reward assumptions, contract duration convention and delivery percentage.
| Comparison axis | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Net output | What BTC remains after every deduction under the same network and uptime assumptions? |
| All-in cost | Are hashrate, electricity, pool, withdrawal and conversion charges included, and can any rate change? |
| Operating time | Does the term begin at purchase or when hashrate goes online? |
| Delivery protection | What metric is measured, over what period, and what remedy applies to short delivery? |
| Payout method | Are subsidy and transaction fees included, and how are pool fees applied? |
| Cash sensitivity | At what BTC price does the modeled result break even? |
| Exit and counterparty risk | Can you cancel, obtain a refund or recover funds if service stops? |
Common calculation mistakes
Calling an estimate a guaranteed yield
Historical output and provider calculators describe past or modeled conditions. Label the figure with its date and assumptions, and present a range or sensitivity table when conditions are uncertain.
Ignoring transaction-fee variability
The block reward includes transaction fees, and fee income changes with demand for block space. A subsidy-only estimate can be too low; a high-fee-period estimate can be too optimistic.
Using calendar days instead of billable days
Activation, maintenance and a provider’s definition of “online” can change the number of earning days. Use the contract’s timestamps and delivery formula.
Mixing gross and net figures
Keep a visible bridge from gross estimated BTC to pool deductions, contract deductions and final credited BTC. This makes double-counting easier to detect.
Forgetting payout thresholds
A contract can show accrued BTC that cannot yet be withdrawn. Include the threshold, expected waiting period and any eventual network or withdrawal fee in your cash model.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Reporting only a fiat return
A fiat result hides the underlying BTC amount and the price assumption. Always report both the net BTC and the conversion scenario.
A practical worksheet and sensitivity test
Create one row per contract and one column for each assumption. At minimum, include hashrate, billable days, gross BTC estimate, delivery ratio, pool fee, hashrate fee, electricity fee, other fees, net BTC, BTC price assumption, total fiat cost, net fiat result and break-even price.
Run at least three scenarios by changing the variables most likely to move the result:
- Lower-output case: reduce delivered hashrate or BTC credit to reflect downtime and weaker network rewards.
- Base case: use the provider’s stated assumptions with every fee reconciled.
- Higher-output case: use stronger network rewards only as an upside scenario, not as the expected return.
Keep the scenarios internally consistent. If you reduce BTC output, do not silently remove a fixed electricity or hashrate charge unless the contract makes that charge variable.

When the contract is not economically clear
Pause before paying when the provider cannot state whether output is gross or net, omits the electricity formula, uses an undefined “daily” period, refuses to explain delivery shortfalls, or presents historical output as a promise. Ask for the governing terms and a fee schedule in writing. If a fee, payout rule or refund condition cannot be modeled from the contract, mark that input as unknown rather than filling it with an industry average.
Also distinguish operational risk from market risk. A transparent contract can still be unprofitable if BTC falls or network competition rises; an opaque contract adds the separate risk that the advertised hashrate or payout cannot be verified.
Bottom line
The real yield is the BTC actually credited under the contract’s payout rules after all non-included fees and delivery shortfalls, with the fiat value shown only under a stated BTC price assumption. Build the calculation from the contract’s exact hashrate, operating period, payout method, pool deduction, electricity and hashrate charges, withdrawal rules and uptime remedy. Treat FPPS and historical output as accounting descriptions or estimates—not guarantees—and compare offers only after putting them on the same assumptions.
