Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo buy NEAR, use a provider that serves your location, confirm it sells NEAR Protocol’s NEAR token, and check that you can withdraw it over the native NEAR network to your chosen wallet. For self-custody, a compatible wallet lets you control the credentials used to authorize transactions; a hardware wallet adds an on-device signing step. Neither approach removes the risk of losing access, sending assets to the wrong destination, or choosing a provider with unsuitable terms.
Buying and storing are separate decisions. A provider may hold your NEAR for you after purchase, or you can withdraw it to a wallet you control. Compare the costs, withdrawal support, and recovery responsibilities before paying.

What buying NEAR and storing it actually involve
NEAR is the token associated with the NEAR Protocol network. Buying it means purchasing the asset through a provider that supports it in your jurisdiction. Storing it safely means choosing who controls the credentials used to authorize transactions and preparing for the possibility that a device, account, or recovery credential becomes unavailable.
When a provider holds your NEAR, you generally access it through that provider’s account and depend on its policies and systems. With self-custody, your wallet gives you control of the credentials used to approve transactions. That control also brings responsibility: if you lose the necessary keys or recovery phrase, you may lose access. A wallet is not a promise that an asset is protected from every kind of loss.

Do not assume that a provider’s NEAR trading listing means it also supports withdrawals to every wallet or over the native NEAR network. Check the withdrawal network and the destination wallet’s compatibility before buying for the purpose of self-custody.
Choose a purchase route before you place an order
There is no universally suitable exchange for every country. Availability, identity checks, payment methods, fees, spreads, limits, and withdrawal policies vary by provider and can change. Verify them directly with the provider for your location rather than relying on a general recommendation or an old fee comparison.
What to verify with a provider
- Local access: Confirm that the provider currently serves your country or region and permits NEAR purchases there. Read its current account and identity-verification requirements.
- The asset: Check that the listing is NEAR Protocol’s NEAR token, not a similarly named asset or an unrelated product.
- Total purchase cost: Review the displayed fee and the quoted exchange rate. A low or absent transaction fee does not by itself establish that the total cost is low; compare the amount of NEAR you expect to receive for the amount you pay.
- Payment method and limits: Confirm which payment methods are available to you, any deposit or purchase limits, and whether the provider applies different terms by payment method.
- Withdrawal support: Look for explicit support for withdrawal over the native NEAR network to a NEAR account. Check any withdrawal charge, minimum, processing limits, or temporary restrictions shown by the provider.
- Custody terms: Understand whether the provider holds the assets and what its terms say about access, withdrawals, and account restrictions.
These checks matter even if you plan to leave the purchase with the provider temporarily. A trading balance and a transferable balance may be treated differently under a provider’s rules, and a displayed token ticker is not proof that an external withdrawal is available.

Neither custody arrangement is right for everyone. The useful comparison is who controls transaction authorization, what actions are convenient, and what recovery steps you must handle yourself.
| Choice | Who controls transaction credentials? | Main practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Leave NEAR with the purchase provider | The provider manages custody within its service; you access the account under its terms. | Convenient if you want to avoid setting up a wallet, but access and withdrawals depend on the provider’s policies, account security, and availability. |
| Use a software wallet | You manage the wallet credentials used to authorize transactions. | Convenient for frequent interaction, but you must protect the credentials and use the wallet carefully. |
| Use a hardware wallet with compatible software | You retain control of signing through the hardware device and its recovery process. | Adds a physical confirmation step, but requires secure device setup and recovery-phrase handling. |
The exact recovery process and responsibilities depend on the wallet and provider. A hardware device does not guarantee that funds cannot be lost: the recovery phrase, destination details, transaction approvals, and the device itself all require careful handling.
Set up a NEAR wallet for self-custody
Ledger’s NEAR materials describe managing NEAR with a Ledger hardware wallet paired with Ledger Wallet, also referred to as Ledger Live in its materials. Ledger lists Nano S Plus and Nano X among device choices, and its supported-assets information lists NEAR for sending and receiving, as well as other functions. This is the vendor’s description of its own support, not an independent security audit or a promise that every service is available where you live.
You do not have to buy a hardware wallet to purchase NEAR. If you choose one, obtain the device and wallet software through the manufacturer’s official channels, follow the setup instructions supplied for your specific device, and confirm that NEAR account management is supported in your region and configuration. Do not use an unfamiliar download, a search ad, or a message from someone claiming to provide wallet support as a substitute for official instructions.

- Choose the custody model. Decide whether you will leave the asset with the purchase provider or withdraw it to a wallet you control. If using self-custody, select a wallet that explicitly supports the native NEAR network and the account type you intend to use.
- Set up the wallet from its official source. Follow the wallet maker’s instructions to initialize the software or hardware device and create or access the receiving account. Ledger describes creating a NEAR account using Ledger Wallet/Ledger Live with compatible Ledger hardware; use the current instructions for your model rather than assuming every device has identical steps.
- Secure recovery credentials immediately. Store any recovery phrase or equivalent credential privately and in a way you can recover if the device is lost or damaged. Never disclose it to a support agent, website, or person offering to validate your wallet. Anyone who obtains credentials capable of authorizing transactions may be able to control the assets.
- Locate the receiving account in the wallet. Use the wallet’s own receive or account interface to obtain the destination identifier. Check that you are viewing the intended NEAR account and that the wallet identifies the relevant network before copying it.
- Confirm the provider can send to that destination. In the provider’s withdrawal flow, verify that the selected network is native NEAR and that the destination format is accepted for that network. Do not choose a network just because it appears beside the same ticker.
- Review the transfer details before confirming. Compare the destination with the wallet’s displayed receiving information, check the amount and any fee, and read the transaction summary. If the provider or wallet presents details you do not understand, pause and consult the official support material for that service without sharing secret credentials.
- Check for receipt in the wallet. Wait for the transfer to appear in the intended account before treating the withdrawal as complete. The provider’s status and the wallet’s displayed balance may not update at the same time.
A small test transfer can be prudent when you are using a new destination or process, but no universal test amount or requirement applies. Consider the provider’s minimums and charges before sending. A test is not a guarantee: verify the network and destination for every later transfer, too.
Buy NEAR and withdraw it carefully
Purchase through a provider
- Choose a provider that is available in your location and review its current terms, identity requirements, payment options, purchase limits, and costs.
- Confirm the asset is NEAR Protocol’s NEAR token. Check the provider’s withdrawal page before purchasing if you intend to move the tokens to self-custody.
- Review how the provider labels the withdrawal network. Proceed only if it explicitly supports native NEAR withdrawals to the destination wallet you selected.
- Make the purchase after you understand the amount you will pay and the amount of NEAR the provider expects to credit. Keep in mind that purchase fees, exchange-rate differences, and withdrawal charges can affect the total.
- When ready to withdraw, use the receiving details obtained directly from your wallet. Check the network, destination, amount, and fee in the final confirmation screen.
- Wait until the NEAR appears in the intended wallet account. If it does not, check the provider’s withdrawal status and the wallet’s transaction or account view, then contact the relevant provider through its official support channel if needed.
The available sources do not establish which exchange is best for a particular country, nor do they verify any named exchange’s current interface or withdrawal policy. Treat provider names and service availability as jurisdiction-dependent, and confirm the details on the provider’s own current pages.

Purchase through a wallet interface
Ledger says its software can offer purchases through third-party providers and names PayPal, Ramp, MoonPay, and Sardine as examples on its NEAR materials. Its developer documentation describes fiat-purchase functionality through providers and is dated September 1, 2026. These statements do not establish that each provider offers NEAR to every customer or in every country. Before accepting an in-wallet offer, check which company will process the purchase, the location and payment methods it supports, its fees and terms, and where the purchased NEAR will be held or delivered.
An integrated purchase route may reduce the number of interfaces you use, but it does not remove the need to verify custody and delivery. Determine whether the service deposits NEAR into an account you control or holds it under a third party’s terms. Check that the receiving account and network match your intended storage method.

Protect your keys, device, and transactions
NEAR’s Terms of Use state, “If you lose the keys or seed phrase, you may lose access to your assets.” The terms also say that NEAR.org and its service providers do not custody users’ assets or have access to their private keys, and place responsibility for maintaining credentials on users. These statements describe NEAR.org’s service and terms; they should not be read as a description of every exchange or wallet provider.
- Keep recovery credentials secret. Do not type a recovery phrase into a link sent by email or message, share it with someone claiming to be support, or give it to a website that says it needs to validate the wallet. Legitimate support should not need your secret recovery phrase.
- Use official software sources. Ledger’s supported-assets guidance advises obtaining third-party wallets from official websites. Check that the software and device are the ones you intended to use before entering account details or approving anything.
- Read transaction details before signing. Ledger advises reviewing each transaction before signing. If the destination, amount, or other details do not match what you intended, do not approve it.
- Separate convenience from protection. A software wallet can be easier to access for frequent use; hardware signing requires access to a physical device. Neither option eliminates risks such as compromised credentials, user error, or an unavailable recovery method.
- Do not assume a completed transfer can be undone. NEAR’s terms warn that recorded transactions cannot be recalled or retrieved. A provider or wallet may be able to explain a status, but do not count on a mistaken on-chain transfer being reversed.
NEAR’s Terms of Use also state that digital assets are not legal tender or backed by a government and are not covered by FDIC or SIPC protections. That is a statement in those terms, not a complete account of the rules that may apply to a particular provider, product, or jurisdiction. Check the relevant terms and local requirements before using a service.
Common problems and what to check
The provider shows NEAR, but there is no withdrawal option
A listing for trading does not establish that external withdrawals are available. Check the provider’s current asset and withdrawal pages, account restrictions, and any temporary service notice. If native NEAR withdrawals are not explicitly supported, do not assume another network option will reach a NEAR account.
The wallet does not show the expected balance
First check the provider’s withdrawal status and make sure you are viewing the same destination account used for the transfer. Confirm the wallet software supports NEAR and is displaying the intended account. If the provider marks the withdrawal complete but the wallet still does not show the funds, use the official help channels for the provider and wallet; do not give either party your recovery phrase.
The destination or network may be wrong
Stop before sending if you are unsure whether the address or network is compatible. Ask the provider and wallet maker through their official support routes to clarify what the transfer screen means. If a transaction has already been recorded, NEAR’s terms say it cannot be recalled or retrieved under any circumstances. Do not send additional funds to anyone promising a guaranteed recovery.
A device is lost, damaged, or unavailable
Use the recovery procedure for your wallet and device, following its official instructions. Do not disclose a recovery phrase to someone else as part of troubleshooting. The ability to regain access depends on the recovery credentials and wallet setup you established; a lost device alone does not establish that assets can or cannot be recovered.
Questions to answer before you buy
- Can I legally and practically use this provider where I live, and have I checked its current terms?
- Is the asset listed as NEAR Protocol’s NEAR, and can I withdraw it over the native NEAR network?
- What will I pay after considering the purchase price, fees, spread, and withdrawal charge?
- Will the provider hold the asset, or will it reach an account whose credentials I control?
- If I choose self-custody, do I understand how the wallet’s recovery process works and how I will protect the credentials?
- Have I verified the receiving account and reviewed the final transfer details before approving?
Do not use a purchase decision as a substitute for evaluating whether the asset suits your financial situation. This guide does not assess NEAR’s price, future returns, staking yield, or suitability as an investment. Those facts are not established here, and prices, fees, provider availability, and service terms can change.
