When did iPhone 15 preorders open?
Apple opened preorders for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus on Friday, September 15, 2023. Availability began Friday, September 22, in more than 40 countries and regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, and Mexico. Apple said some additional markets, including Macao, Malaysia, Türkiye, and Vietnam, would receive the phones starting September 29. Can you still preorder an iPhone 15 from Apple?
No—not as part of the original launch preorder. Apple’s current U.S. Buy iPhone page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists newer models and does not list iPhone 15. That does not establish whether independent retailers have any remaining stock, so check a retailer’s live listing directly rather than assuming availability.
How the original preorder worked
For the 2023 launch, Apple said customers could select a model and payment method ahead of time and leave the selection in their shopping bag before preorders opened. Apple also described financing, delivery, and pickup options through Apple Retail. This was guidance for that launch window, not a current order process. The details appeared in Apple’s September 14, 2023 ordering update.

What to check before buying one now
Because current third-party inventory and terms vary by listing, compare the actual device and the full cost—not just the headline price.
- Model and storage: Confirm whether the listing is for iPhone 15 or 15 Plus, and check the storage capacity.
- Condition: Identify whether it is new, used, or refurbished, and read what the seller says about wear, repairs, and included accessories.
- Carrier lock: Check whether the phone is unlocked or restricted to a particular carrier. Confirm compatibility with your carrier before buying.
- Seller and returns: Review the seller’s reputation, the return window, and any conditions or fees that apply to a return.
- Warranty: Verify what warranty coverage applies, who provides it, and when it begins. Do not assume a third-party listing has the same coverage as a new Apple purchase.

Those were 2023 launch promotions, not confirmed current offers. Check the provider’s current terms before relying on a trade-in estimate or monthly-payment claim.
