Speedrun publicly highlights zero-to-one execution, rapid development, distinctive insight and early validation—but says validation is encouraged, not required. Those are stated selection signals, not a published scoring rubric.
As of October 8, 2026, the application page lists SR008 as the next cohort, starting in early 2027. Its priority window is October 12 through November 1, 2026; applications are also accepted year-round. Check the live application page before submitting because cohort dates can change.
What Speedrun looks for in an application
Speedrun describes the qualities it seeks in terms of how founders build and learn. It does not publish point values or a formula for admissions. Treat its public criteria as signals to address with concrete evidence rather than as a checklist that guarantees acceptance.
- Zero-to-one execution: Show what you have built and shipped, especially when you had to make progress without waiting for outside permission or resources.
- Rapid learning: Explain what changed after you received feedback, what you learned, and how that affected the product or your next step.
- Distinctive insight: Describe the non-obvious customer, technical, or market insight behind the startup—and why your team is positioned to understand it.
- Team fit: Connect each founder’s relevant experience and skills to the company’s immediate needs. For a multi-founder team, explain how those skills complement one another.
- Early validation: Share a prototype, customer evidence, usage, or metrics if you have them. Speedrun says validation is encouraged, not required; its FAQ does not identify a metric that applicants must reach. Speedrun FAQ
A practical way to make these signals legible is to use the same description of the product and customer across your pitch, longer description, deck, and any interview. Back claims with examples or evidence rather than superlatives.

How to apply
- Check the current cohort and timing. The application page lists SR008 as starting in early 2027 and gives October 12–November 1, 2026 as its priority window. It also accepts applications year-round. Speedrun says priority-window submissions are reviewed fastest; off-cycle applications are reviewed for an upcoming cohort.
- Prepare concise, consistent descriptions. The form allows up to 100 characters for the one-line pitch and 800 characters for the startup description. Use the pitch to identify the customer and product clearly; use the longer description to explain the problem and what you are building. Application form
- Answer the team questions with specifics. The application asks about relevant founder experience, whether the founders can build the product end-to-end, how they know each other, and why they are the right team. Explain the connection between your experience and the work the startup needs to do now.
- Add supporting materials where useful. The form lists a video, deck, traction, and funding history among optional materials. Optional means the form does not make them mandatory. Include materials that help substantiate your claims; do not imply that an attachment is required.
- Submit and prepare for follow-up. Speedrun says it reviews applications on a rolling basis, usually within 4–6 weeks. Teams that move forward may be asked for a short video pitch or a 15-minute interview, and later may be asked for references, data, or more details. Speedrun FAQ
Can a solo founder apply?
Yes. Speedrun says it welcomes solo applications and encourages solo founders with strong execution records to apply. It also says it generally prefers teams with multiple founders and complementary skills. A solo applicant can address that preference by making relevant experience, execution, and ability to cover the company’s current needs clear; solo status is not described as an automatic bar.
Who is eligible, and what participation requires
Speedrun says it welcomes early-stage founders from around the world, including already-funded early-stage companies, and does not require companies to relocate permanently. However, participants must be able to attend the 12-week in-person component in San Francisco. Founders may apply while students or employees, but the program requires full-time commitment. Check with Speedrun about individual travel and visa circumstances. Speedrun FAQ
How competitive is Speedrun?
Speedrun’s FAQ says its acceptance rate is lower than 0.4% and that recent cohorts have included 60–70 teams. The FAQ page is undated, and it does not provide the rate’s denominator, methodology, or reference period. Treat these as figures Speedrun reports—not independently audited or timeless statistics—and do not use them to estimate an individual applicant’s odds. Speedrun FAQ
The public materials do not disclose internal score weights, interview rubrics, or acceptance odds by founder type or application timing. There is therefore no evidence-based way to calculate whether a particular profile is likely to be accepted.

Do not assume a previous cohort’s offer applies to SR008. In its April 20, 2026 announcement for SR007, a16z described an investment of up to $1 million: $500,000 for 10% upfront via SAFE, plus $500,000 into a subsequent round within 18 months. Those were SR007 terms, not confirmed SR008 terms. SR007 announcement

The SR007 announcement also described more than $5 million in cloud, AI, and software credits. Speedrun’s current perks page describes a credits marketplace and names providers including AWS, GCP, OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Stripe, and Deel. Credit availability and terms can change; the listed benefits do not establish that applicants receive credits.
