To apply for an Indian Tatkaal passport, submit the appropriate fresh or reissue application through the official Passport Seva portal, pay the fee shown for your case, book an appointment, and take the required proofs and signed Tatkaal undertaking to the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). First check that your application is eligible: Tatkaal is not available for every applicant or circumstance.
Check whether your application qualifies for Tatkaal
Tatkaal is an expedited service with eligibility restrictions. The official Tatkaal guidance lists applications involving a change in name and applicants whose present address falls outside the jurisdiction of the relevant Regional Passport Office (RPO) among categories not covered. Review the full live exclusion list before choosing Tatkaal or paying; the examples here are not the complete list.
Eligibility depends on the details of your application, including whether it is for a fresh passport or a reissue. If your circumstances fall within an excluded category, do not assume that selecting Tatkaal in the online process will make the application eligible.
Gather the required documents
Tatkaal documents are additional to the ordinary proofs required for your application. Prepare the applicable address, date-of-birth and non-ECR evidence, along with the documents from the official Tatkaal acceptable list. Check the live list and its conditions: a document that appears on the list may still have specific requirements for its use.

Tatkaal document count
- Applicants aged 18 or older: Submit any three acceptable documents from the official list.
- Applicants under 18: Submit any two documents from items 1–6 of that list.
Examples of acceptable documents
The current official list includes UIDAI-issued Aadhaar formats, PAN card, a student photo identity card from a recognised educational institution, a birth certificate issued under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, a ration card and, for a reissue, the last passport. Other adult options include EPIC, a valid driving licence issued within the relevant jurisdiction, qualifying passbooks with an attested photograph and recent transaction, caste certificate, arms licence, pension documents and specified service photo identity cards. Use the portal’s current list to confirm the exact document and any conditions that apply to you.
Check address and copies
At least one document you submit must match the address entered in your application. The official undertaking does not require every submitted document to show that address. Take the originals and one set of self-attested photocopies to your appointment, and bring the signed Tatkaal undertaking.

Apply and book an appointment
- Open the official portal. Register or sign in at Passport Seva.
- Submit the application. Complete the fresh or reissue application, selecting Tatkaal only if your case is eligible. The portal provides an application reference and the payment-and-scheduling flow.
- Check the fee for your case. Use the portal’s fee calculator for the selected service and your application particulars. Tatkaal applicants must pay the full applicable Tatkaal-category fee online during payment.
- Choose an appointment. Select an available PSK or POPSK appointment. Tatkaal appointment opening times are set by the Passport Office, and availability depends on its local schedule.
- Prepare for the visit. Follow the portal’s instructions for application material, sign the Tatkaal undertaking, and attend with the original documents and one set of self-attested copies.
A Gazetted Officer verification certificate is not required under the Tatkaal scheme, according to the official Tatkaal FAQ. This does not remove the requirement to provide the undertaking and ordinary proofs relevant to your application.
Verify the fee and understand the service timeline
The Ministry of External Affairs’ 2025 Citizen’s Charter states: “An additional payment of Rs. 2000 is levied for passport under the Tatkaal Scheme.” That is a published figure from the 2025 charter, not a verified current total for every application. Passport Seva announced revised passport fees effective 1 July 2026; use the official fee calculator to confirm the amount applying to your service and particulars before paying.
