Yes—you can show multiple positions at the same company on LinkedIn. Add each title as a separate entry in your Experience section, choose the same official LinkedIn company page for each role, enter truthful start and end dates, and let LinkedIn determine whether the positions are grouped.
What you need before adding the positions
Collect the details for every role before editing your profile. For each position, confirm:
- The official job title.
- The month and year the role started.
- The month and year the role ended, if it is no longer current.
- Whether the role is current.
- The correct employment type, such as full-time, part-time, contract, internship, freelance, or self-employed.
- The location and workplace details, if LinkedIn displays those fields for your account.
- The company page that should be associated with the role.
- The accomplishments, responsibilities, and skills that belong specifically to that position.
Also decide whether you want LinkedIn to notify your network when you save the changes. The profile can be updated without sending an announcement, but turning off notifications does not hide the updated Experience section from people who view your profile.

When to create separate LinkedIn positions
Use separate Experience entries when the change represents a materially different job. This usually includes:
- A promotion, such as Analyst to Senior Analyst.
- A lateral move into a different function, such as Marketing Operations Manager to Product Marketing Manager.
- A transfer to a different department or team with substantially different responsibilities.
- Two formal roles held concurrently.
- A change from contractor to employee when the employment arrangement or responsibilities materially changed.
- Several distinct contract assignments for the same organization.
- A return to the company after working somewhere else.
Separate entries help readers see what changed, preserve the accomplishments from each role, and make it possible to attach different skills to each position. LinkedIn’s Experience instructions support multiple job, internship, contract, volunteer, and other professional-experience entries.
You do not need a separate entry for every temporary project or minor adjustment in responsibility. Combining closely related duties into one entry may be clearer when the title and underlying job did not materially change.
| Situation | Recommended treatment |
|---|---|
| Official title changed and responsibilities increased | Add a new position and end the previous one using the actual dates. |
| Moved to another department or function | Add a separate position if the work and accomplishments are meaningfully different. |
| Temporary project assignment with no formal title change | Usually include it in the existing role’s description rather than creating a duplicate entry. |
| Returned after a substantial gap | Use a separate entry when the break makes it inaccurate to imply continuous employment. |
How to add multiple positions on LinkedIn from a computer
If your profile does not yet have an Experience section
- Click Me at the top of LinkedIn.
- Select View Profile.
- Click Add profile section in the introduction area.
- Open Core.
- Select Add position.
- Complete the position form.
- Click Save.
LinkedIn generally does not show the Experience section until at least one position has been added.

- Open Me → View Profile.
- Scroll to Experience.
- Click the section’s Add icon.
- Select Add position.
- Enter the new title and other role details.
- In the company field, type the employer’s name and wait for LinkedIn’s suggestions.
- Select the correct official organization page from the dropdown.
- Enter the accurate start date. If the position has ended, enter the accurate end date; otherwise leave it current.
- Add the role description, skills, media, employment type, and location where useful.
- Click Save.
- Repeat the process for every additional position.
The durable workflow is Add position, not editing the previous title into the new one. LinkedIn’s labels can vary by account, device, language, and interface version, so do not rely on a promotion-specific button appearing on every profile.
How to add the positions in the LinkedIn mobile app
- Tap your profile photo.
- Tap your profile photo again to open your profile.
- If you do not have an Experience section, tap Add section → Core → Add position.
- If Experience already exists, scroll to that section and tap its Add icon.
- Enter the title, company, dates, employment type, description, and other relevant details.
- Tap Save.
- Repeat for each additional role.
To correct an existing entry, open the Experience section and use the edit control for that position. Depending on the app version, you can edit or delete the entry from that screen. LinkedIn documents its mobile add, edit, and delete paths separately from the desktop instructions in its Manage your Experience section guide.
How to show a promotion correctly
For a promotion, add the promoted title as a new position rather than changing the old title. Then edit the former position so it ends when the promotion began.
- Add the new title as a separate Experience entry.
- Use the promotion’s actual start month and year.
- Edit the previous position and enter its actual end month and year.
- Leave the new position current if you still hold it.
- Use the new description to show the increased scope, team size, budget, territory, leadership, or business impact.
For example:
- Senior Product Manager — January 2025–Present
- Product Manager — June 2022–December 2024
The old Product Manager entry should not remain marked Present if that job ended when the promotion took effect. LinkedIn’s official instructions describe adding a position, but they do not promise that every account will show a dedicated promotion workflow or a button with a label such as “End current position.”
How to show a lateral move or internal transfer
A new Experience entry is also appropriate when the move is not a promotion. If the job function, title, or responsibilities changed substantially, record it separately.
Example:
- Product Marketing Manager — March 2025–Present
- Marketing Operations Manager — July 2022–February 2025
The new description could explain the connection without repeating the old entry:
Moved internally from Marketing Operations to Product Marketing to lead go-to-market strategy for the enterprise portfolio.
This gives readers the timeline while making the functional change clear.
How LinkedIn groups positions at the same company
Adding two positions and having LinkedIn display them as one company block are related but separate things. You can add every role as its own entry, but LinkedIn controls whether qualifying entries are visually grouped.

According to LinkedIn’s current Help documentation, positions are grouped when:
- They are held at the same company.
- The new position begins within one month of the previous position’s end date.
- The entries are associated with the same LinkedIn organization or company page.
LinkedIn’s older product announcement also describes grouping as applying to consecutive positions linked to the same company page. The documented wording is within one month; it does not establish an exact day-by-day calculation. Therefore, do not treat “30 days” or “31 days” as a guaranteed threshold.
| Example timeline | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Role A ends in June; Role B begins in July | Likely to meet LinkedIn’s documented one-month rule, assuming the same company page is selected. |
| Role A ends in June; Role B begins in June | Within the documented window, assuming the company association is the same. |
| Role A ends in June; Role B begins in September | Outside the documented one-month window, so the entries should not be expected to group. |
When LinkedIn groups the entries, the profile typically shows:
- The company name once.
- One company logo.
- Total tenure at the company.
- Each title in chronological order.
- The start and end dates for each position.
- The tenure for each individual position.
Grouping can make internal progression easier to scan, but it is not something you should force by changing truthful dates or selecting an inaccurate company page.
What about overlapping positions?
LinkedIn supports more than one current position, but its current public Help page does not clearly establish overlapping roles as an independent, guaranteed grouping rule. Some profiles may display overlapping positions together depending on the account’s grouping behavior, but LinkedIn’s documented rule focuses on the same company and the new position beginning within one month of the previous position ending.
For that reason, record overlapping roles honestly and do not promise that they will group. If the roles are formal and materially different, keep them as separate entries even if the final display is not exactly what you expected.
How to show two current positions at the same time
LinkedIn allows multiple positions to remain current. This is useful for formal concurrent roles, such as holding an operating position while serving as an adviser or serving in two distinct capacities at the same organization.
Recommended Free Tools
Leave the end date blank for each role that is genuinely ongoing. When there are at least two current positions, LinkedIn provides a way to reorder them. The Sort control applies to current positions; past positions cannot be manually reordered.
Reorder current positions on desktop
- Open Me → View Profile.
- Scroll to Experience.
- Click the section’s Edit icon.
- Click the Sort icon.
- Drag the current positions into the desired order.
- Close the reorder window to save.
Reorder current positions on mobile
- Open your profile.
- Scroll to Experience.
- Tap Edit.
- Tap Sort.
- Press and drag the position into the desired order.
- Tap Close.
These controls are described in LinkedIn’s guide to reordering positions in the Experience section.
Choose which current position appears at the top
The position shown prominently in the profile introduction is not always the same as the first item you want readers to notice in the Experience section. By default, when there is more than one current position, LinkedIn lists the position with the most recent start date first.
You can choose a different Primary position for the introduction:
- Open your profile.
- Click or tap the Edit icon in the introduction section.
- Under Primary position, select the current role you want to emphasize.
- Save the change.
LinkedIn explains this choice in its guide to editing the profile introduction. If your headline already repeats the current position, LinkedIn may show only the company on that line, so review the introduction after changing the primary role.
Primary position and Sort are different: Primary position controls the role emphasized in the introduction, while Sort controls the order of multiple current roles in the Experience section.

Select the correct company page for every role
The company field is more than plain text. When you choose an organization from LinkedIn’s suggestions, the Experience entry is associated with that LinkedIn Page. LinkedIn says members who select a company, university, or school from the organization list can appear as associated members on that organization’s Page. This association is also important to LinkedIn’s grouping behavior.
For each position:
- Type the employer’s name.
- Wait for the dropdown suggestions to appear.
- Choose the exact official company page.
- Use that same page for each role when the employer is genuinely the same organization.
Do not select a similarly named subsidiary, regional entity, former brand, or unrelated organization just because it produces the logo or grouping layout you prefer. Selecting an organization associates you with its Page; it is not the same thing as LinkedIn independently verifying your employment.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If the company does not appear
Do not choose an inaccurate organization merely to make the entries group. Instead:
- Confirm the employer’s official LinkedIn Page name.
- Search carefully for parent and subsidiary entities.
- Check whether the page is available in the current app or account interface.
- Use the most accurate organization information available.
- Explain the relationship, rebrand, or entity change in the description if that would prevent confusion.
LinkedIn’s public Help material confirms the importance of selecting the correct organization but does not provide one complete troubleshooting process for every missing-company-page situation. If the accurate page is unavailable, do not misrepresent the employer; understand that grouping may not work as expected.
Fixing the wrong company association
Edit the Experience entry and replace the incorrect organization with the accurate company page. A corrected logo or association may not appear immediately. LinkedIn says changes to associated-member information can take up to 30 days to update. See its guidance on associations with organizations.
What to write in each position’s description
Give every role its own description when the responsibilities and achievements differ. A practical format is:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- A one-line scope statement.
- Two to four accomplishment bullets.
- Legitimate, non-confidential metrics where appropriate.
- A short explanation of an internal promotion or transfer when helpful.
- Skills that are relevant to that specific role.
For example, an earlier Product Manager entry might focus on launching a product and coordinating engineering, while the Senior Product Manager entry might focus on portfolio strategy, team leadership, and revenue responsibility. Avoid copying the same description into every role; repetition hides the progression.
LinkedIn allows different skills to be attached to individual Experience entries, and those skills may also appear in the profile’s general Skills section. Choose skills that genuinely describe the work performed in each position rather than using them as formatting tools.
Employment type: use it for accuracy, not layout
LinkedIn supports employment types including full-time, part-time, contract, self-employed, internship, apprenticeship, and freelance. Some countries also have country-specific employment types, including the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, and Brazil, according to LinkedIn’s employment-type guidance.
Select the type that truthfully describes each role. Employment type can help explain progression from contractor to employee or distinguish concurrent arrangements, but it should not be changed simply to produce a preferred visual grouping.
Why positions do not group—and how to fix the problem
If the entries appear as separate company blocks, check the underlying data before changing anything:
| Problem | Likely cause | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| The new title replaced the old one | The old entry was edited instead of adding another position. | Restore the former title and dates, then add the new role separately. |
| Roles appear as separate company blocks | The entries use different company pages, or the gap is longer than one month. | Check the organization association and dates. Keep them separate if that is what the facts require. |
| The wrong company logo appears | The wrong organization was selected from the dropdown. | Edit the entry and select the accurate company page. |
| The old position still says Present | No end date was entered for the previous role. | Edit the old entry and enter its actual end month and year. |
| The new role is not at the top | Another current role has a later start date or is ordered first. | Choose the desired Primary position and, if necessary, reorder current positions. |
| The company-page employee association is wrong | An incorrect company page was selected. | Edit the Experience entry. LinkedIn says the correction can take up to 30 days to propagate. |
| A network alert was sent unexpectedly | Profile-update sharing was enabled. | Review the notification control before future edits and turn off sharing when appropriate. |
| The secondary-language profile is outdated | Experience changes do not automatically mirror to every language version. | Update the secondary-language profile manually. |
After correcting an entry, save it and refresh the profile. LinkedIn says positions more than one month apart will not group. It also recommends checking or updating the company name when a position is grouped incorrectly. There is no documented manual “group” or “ungroup” switch in the cited Help material.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Special cases to handle accurately
Returning to a former employer
If you left the company for another employer and later returned, a gap longer than one month may prevent LinkedIn from grouping the two periods. That separation can be accurate: it prevents the profile from implying continuous service. Do not change the dates to create one uninterrupted tenure.

Parent company, subsidiary, or regional entity
Two organizations may share a brand but have different LinkedIn Pages. Use the page that accurately represents the employer for that role. If the positions belong to genuinely different entities, separate company blocks may be appropriate even when the corporate relationship is obvious. Explain the relationship in the descriptions if necessary.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCompany rebrand or merger
Use the accurate organization association available for the employer and time period, and explain a rebrand or merger in the role description when it helps readers understand the history. Do not select a different page solely to force LinkedIn’s grouping logic.
Contractor-to-employee transition
Create separate entries when the transition involved a new formal role, a different employment type, or materially different responsibilities. Use the real dates and the same company page only if that page accurately represents the organization in both entries. Whether LinkedIn groups them will depend on its date and company-page rules.
Notifications, profile visibility, and privacy
LinkedIn separates the visibility of a saved profile change from whether it actively tells your network about that change. The relevant control may be labeled Notify network or Share with network, depending on the interface.
- Profile visibility: People who visit your profile can see the saved Experience entries, subject to the profile’s visibility settings.
- Network notification: A sharing setting may create a feed post, in-app notification, or email notification.
- Manual announcement: You can write a separate post about a promotion or transfer if you want to provide context.
Before saving a promotion or newly current role, review the Notify network or Share with network control if it appears. If you do not want an announcement, turn off the relevant sharing option. LinkedIn says job updates may take up to two hours to be shared, and some profile edits will not generate notifications even when sharing is enabled.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChanges to the introduction section itself do not notify the network, according to LinkedIn’s profile-introduction notification guidance. Notification behavior can vary by the type of edit, so do not assume that every Experience change will be silent or every change will generate an alert. See LinkedIn’s current profile-update sharing guidance before making a sensitive change.
Secondary-language profiles
If your LinkedIn profile has an additional language version, an edit made to the English-language profile does not automatically update the secondary-language profile. Enter the position changes manually in the other language so that titles, dates, and descriptions remain consistent across versions.
Final checklist
- Each materially different title has its own Experience entry.
- The old position has a real end date and is not accidentally marked Present.
- Every current role is genuinely ongoing.
- The same official company page is selected for roles that belong to the same organization.
- Dates are truthful and have not been changed to force grouping.
- Descriptions explain what changed between roles instead of repeating identical text.
- Employment types accurately describe the arrangements.
- The desired current role is selected as the Primary position.
- Current positions are reordered if their display order matters.
- Network-notification preferences are correct before saving.
- Any secondary-language profile has been updated manually.
- The final profile has been refreshed and checked for the correct company logo, grouping, titles, and dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add a second current position at the same company on LinkedIn?
Yes. Add it as a separate Experience entry and leave the end date blank if the role is genuinely ongoing. LinkedIn allows multiple current positions and lets you reorder them with the Sort control. You can also select which current role appears as the Primary position in your profile introduction.
Why are my LinkedIn positions not grouped under one company?
The most common reasons are that the entries point to different LinkedIn company pages or that the new role began more than one month after the previous role ended. Check both the company association and the dates. LinkedIn’s public documentation does not provide a manual group or ungroup switch.
Can I force LinkedIn to group positions at the same company?
No documented manual grouping control is provided in LinkedIn’s cited Help guidance. Use the accurate company page and truthful dates, but do not change employment dates or select a different subsidiary merely to change the layout.
Will LinkedIn notify my connections when I add a promotion?
It may, depending on the profile-update sharing setting and the type of edit. Review the Notify network or Share with network control before saving. Turning off sharing prevents the network announcement but does not hide the saved position from people who view your profile.
The Bottom Line
The correct LinkedIn setup is simple: add every meaningful role separately, end the previous role when it actually ended, select the same official company page for genuinely continuous employment, and use distinct descriptions for each job. LinkedIn will group qualifying entries automatically, but a longer break, different company page, subsidiary, or overlapping arrangement may produce a separate display. Never manipulate dates or company associations just to obtain a preferred layout.
