To add a certificate or license manually, open Me → View Profile → Add profile section → Recommended → Add licenses & certifications, enter the credential details, choose the correct issuing organization, then save. LinkedIn calls the profile area Licenses & certifications. The steps below reflect LinkedIn Help available in August 2026; if your app or account shows different labels, look for their equivalent profile-section controls.
What belongs in Licenses & certifications?
Use this section for professional credentials that are meaningful to your work, and describe each one accurately. LinkedIn defines the area as covering certifications, licenses, and clearances attained by a member (LinkedIn Help: Your LinkedIn profile).
- License: A government, regulatory, occupational, or industry authorization to practice. Preserve the regulator’s official title and status.
- Certification: A credential awarded after an exam, assessment, or formal certification program. A certification does not necessarily authorize someone to practice a regulated profession.
- Course-completion certificate: Add it when the training is substantial and relevant, but do not present course completion as equivalent to a professional certification or license.
- LinkedIn Learning certificate: Add it using LinkedIn Learning’s separate completion workflow, described below.
- Degree: Add it under Education, not Licenses & certifications. Add related skills separately; a certificate does not automatically establish every skill it suggests.
Add a certificate or license on LinkedIn from a computer
- Sign in to LinkedIn and click Me.
- Select View Profile.
- In the profile introduction area, click Add profile section.
- Open Recommended and choose Add licenses & certifications.
- Enter the credential details. Use its official title and select the correct issuer from LinkedIn’s suggestions.
- Click Save.
Choosing the correct suggested organization associates the entry with that organization’s LinkedIn Page and logo. Avoid choosing a similarly named but unrelated issuer. See LinkedIn’s credential-management instructions.
Add a credential in the LinkedIn mobile app
- Tap your profile picture, then tap your profile photo again to open your profile.
- Tap Add section.
- Tap Recommended, then choose Add licenses and certifications.
- Enter the credential details, select the correct issuing organization, and tap Save.
These steps are for the LinkedIn app, not a mobile web browser. LinkedIn notes that some profile sections may not be editable in a mobile browser; if the controls are missing, try the app or desktop site (LinkedIn Help: Edit your profile).

What to enter in each credential field
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Name | The credential’s official title, including level or specialization where applicable. |
| Issuing organization | The official issuer. Select its correct LinkedIn result when available; do not choose a near-match just to display a logo. |
| Issue date | The month and year awarded or activated. |
| Expiration date | The actual end date, if the credential expires. Do not omit it to make an expired credential look current. |
| Credential ID | The certificate, license, registration, or candidate number if supplied and safe to make public. |
| Credential URL | A public page that verifies the exact credential, if available. LinkedIn partner documentation describes the usual fields as including name, issuer, dates, ID, and URL (LinkedIn Marketing Academy FAQ). |
Choose a useful credential URL
Prefer a public verification page for the exact credential, then a badge page hosted by the issuer. If neither exists, use the issuer’s credential lookup page; an official certification page is a last resort. LinkedIn says the URL can point to the member’s certification or the certification authority’s site, and can be opened by someone clicking the credential on the profile (LinkedIn Add to Profile for Certifications PDF).
A private dashboard, temporary download link, unrelated course-sales page, or invented URL will not help a viewer check the claim. A genuine issuer-controlled link improves verifiability but is not itself proof that LinkedIn verified the credential.

Add a LinkedIn Learning certificate
LinkedIn Learning uses a separate flow for certificates of completion. A course or learning path must be completed before the option becomes available; certificates are not provided for collections or individual videos.
- Sign in to LinkedIn Learning and open My Library or My Courses.
- Go to Learning History and find the completed course or learning path.
- On desktop, select More (…) → Add to profile. In the app, select Add to profile.
- Review any suggested skills and deselect skills you do not want to add.
- Choose whether to share the completion update with your network, then select Add to Profile.
LinkedIn says all videos in an individual course should show a green checkmark. If completion is missing, refresh Learning History; if it still does not appear, clear your browser cache and cookies. Members with more than 100 listed skills cannot add additional skills through this certificate flow. A certificate can also be printed as a PDF, but that PDF is separate from the profile entry. See LinkedIn’s Learning certificate instructions.

Edit or remove a credential
- Open your profile: on desktop, choose Me → View Profile; in the app, open your profile.
- Scroll to Licenses & certifications.
- Select the edit pencil beside the entry.
- Update the fields and save, or choose Delete license or certification and confirm.
LinkedIn documents edit and delete controls for individual entries in its credential-management instructions.
Fix issuer, logo, or provider-link problems
The issuer does not appear in suggestions
- Search its formal name, abbreviation, and parent organization.
- Check that the result is the issuer’s official LinkedIn Page, not an unrelated organization with a similar name.
- If no correct result exists, enter the issuer’s name carefully and include an official credential-verification URL where possible. Contact the issuer if its LinkedIn Page or integration is inaccurate.
A provider’s Add to Profile link opens a form
Some providers email a link that opens LinkedIn’s credential form. Confirm the message genuinely came from the provider, sign in if prompted, check every field, and save. Do not assume the link filled in the information: LinkedIn says partner certification and degree information no longer autofills in the former way, so members enter it themselves (LinkedIn Add to Profile FAQs). The link is a convenience, not a guarantee of verification.

The credential is expired or renewal is pending
Enter an expiration date when applicable. Do not claim a renewal until the issuer confirms it. If a credential has been revoked or permanently retired, remove it or describe its status accurately rather than leaving it presented as current.

LinkedIn’s current English help guidance says entries appear in the order added and cannot be manually reordered. If order matters to how your profile reads, add the most important credential first. LinkedIn help in other languages has described date-based ordering, so the displayed behavior may vary by interface or rollout; see the current English instructions.

The structured Licenses & certifications entry is different from showcasing a PDF or badge image. If Featured is available on your account, you may use it to spotlight credential-related content near the top of your profile; it does not replace the structured entry. LinkedIn’s cited Featured guidance limits this profile-content feature to certain Premium Business, Sales Navigator, and Recruiter subscribers (LinkedIn Help: Featured).
Keep credential details accurate and safe to publish
- Use the official credential title and issuer, and avoid duplicate entries.
- Add credentials relevant to your target work; an ordinary attendance record or internal badge may not help viewers assess your qualifications.
- Use a verification link when the issuer offers one, and check that it is public and points to the specific credential.
- Check whether the credential ID is publicly visible and safe to share. Do not expose a government identifier, private registration data, exam-security details, or confidential employer records.
- Keep licenses and certifications distinct: one may legally authorize practice while another demonstrates completion or assessed competence.
Adding an entry is a profile-editing action, not independent authentication by LinkedIn. Publish only accurate information and rely on the issuer’s registry, badge system, or lookup process for verification.
