Eligible U.S. PayPal users can add cash to a PayPal Balance at participating 7-Eleven locations. In the app, choose Add Money, select Add cash at stores, choose a listed retailer and show the generated barcode at checkout. PayPal says the money usually arrives within minutes, but the reload costs up to $3.95 and location participation varies.
PayPal’s current documentation confirms the service is available; it does not establish that a particular app update newly introduced it. This is a cash reload to a PayPal Balance, not a conventional bank deposit.
Who can add cash to PayPal at 7-Eleven?
PayPal lists 7-Eleven among the U.S. retailers where customers can add cash to a PayPal Balance. The service is available only at participating locations, so check the retailer list in the app before making a trip. Other listed chains include Walmart, CVS, Dollar General, Walgreens, Kroger, Family Dollar, Circle K, Speedway and Sheetz; the in-app list is the best way to check local availability. PayPal’s cash-add help page has the retailer and eligibility details.
You need a PayPal account eligible for a Balance account and must meet any verification checks PayPal requires. PayPal’s troubleshooting guidance also calls out a confirmed email address, account verification, account limitations and applicable cash-load limits as factors that can prevent a reload.

The cash goes into your PayPal Balance, which can be used for supported online purchases, sending money, bills and other eligible payments. A PayPal Debit Card can be used for purchases where Mastercard is accepted. Adding cash does not mean it can be withdrawn without charge or used everywhere; separate terms, fees, account limitations and merchant acceptance apply. PayPal describes itself as a financial-technology company, not a bank, and any pass-through FDIC insurance is subject to the applicable account and program-bank conditions (PayPal Balance Terms; Program Banks Terms).
How to add cash using the PayPal app barcode
App labels may differ slightly by version. Generate the barcode shortly before visiting the store, because it expires.

- Open the PayPal app and sign in to the account you want to fund.
- Open your PayPal Balance or Accounts area, then tap Add Money.
- Choose Add cash at stores or Add Cash.
- Select 7-Eleven from the available retailers and generate the barcode.
- At a participating store register, tell the cashier you are adding cash to PayPal. Show the barcode and provide the cash.
- Keep the receipt, then check your PayPal Balance and email confirmation.
PayPal’s overview of adding cash in store describes the flow. Only one barcode can be active at a time, according to PayPal’s help guidance; if one expires, generate a replacement rather than trying to use it.
Fees, reload amounts and limits
PayPal’s help page says the fee is up to $3.95 and varies by store. Its Balance Terms list a cash-at-stores fee range of $3.74–$3.95. Confirm the exact fee at the register before proceeding; not every location necessarily charges the same amount.

These are PayPal’s stated limits; individual retailers or locations may set lower limits, and PayPal may apply account-specific controls. A transaction can be declined because of the transaction-count cap even when the dollar total is below the daily or monthly maximum.
The flat fee can take a substantial share of a small reload. At PayPal’s maximum stated $3.95 fee, it equals 19.75% of a $20 reload, 7.9% of $50, 3.95% of $100 or 0.79% of $500. These percentages use the maximum fee; the actual fee depends on the store.

When will the money appear?
PayPal says cash reloads are usually credited to the Balance within minutes, not that every reload is instantaneous. Keep the receipt until the balance updates and retain it if you need to contact PayPal about a missing credit. The official PayPal add-money page describes the posting time.

Yes. PayPal says holders of an eligible PayPal Debit Card can add cash at participating stores without generating an app barcode: provide the cash and swipe the card, or hand it to the cashier for the transaction. What to do if the option or barcode does not work
“Add cash” is missing
- Make sure you are signed into the correct PayPal account; look under both Balance and Accounts for Add Money.
- Check whether PayPal requests identity verification, email confirmation or another action in your account notifications.
- Confirm that the account is not limited and that you have not reached a dollar or transaction-count limit.
- Check another nearby retailer in the app. The feature and participating locations are U.S.-specific and not universal.
- If the account appears eligible but the option remains unavailable, contact PayPal through its help channels.
PayPal’s Balance funding help and cash-add guidance describe account and verification checks.
The barcode will not scan
- Check that it has not expired; generate a fresh one if needed.
- Turn up your phone’s screen brightness and ask the cashier to scan the screen.
- Do not hand over cash until the store accepts and processes the transaction.
- If the cashier does not recognize the service, explain that it is a PayPal cash reload using the app barcode, not a 7-Eleven Wallet load.
The balance has not updated
Check your PayPal email and allow for the usual posting period. Keep the receipt and contact PayPal with the store location, date, amount and transaction details if the credit does not arrive. Contact the store about register or receipt issues; PayPal controls whether the funds are credited to your account.
PayPal cash reload is not the 7-Eleven Wallet
A PayPal cash reload sends money to your PayPal Balance. The 7-Eleven Wallet is a separate service: adding PayPal as a payment method to that wallet, or loading cash into it, does not add cash to your PayPal Balance. See 7-Eleven’s Wallet instructions for that separate feature.
Alternatives if you want to avoid the store fee

See PayPal’s instructions for bank and debit-card additions and its direct-deposit information. If 7-Eleven is not available nearby, check the app for another participating cash-load retailer before traveling.
