For the documented ebtEDGE Cardholder Portal, start by entering your 16-digit EBT card number on the cardholder login page. For a new card, the portal can then show a PIN Select page with a Select your PIN option. The exact activation and PIN-setting route depends on your issuing state and benefit program, so follow the instructions supplied with your card or by the agency that issued it.
Before you begin, choose the correct ebtEDGE portal
Go to the ebtEDGE Government Solutions landing page and follow its direction for your state and program: ebtEDGE portal routing. The page directs some listed state and program users to a newer portal and other users to the existing Cardholder Portal. Its list covers different benefit programs and jurisdictions; it does not mean every EBT card uses ebtEDGE or the same screens.
Check the state and program shown on your card or its official accompanying instructions before using older screenshots or general web directions. If the portal or options you see do not match the steps below, use the card issuer’s current instructions or support channel.
Set a PIN for a new card in the documented legacy portal
- Open the Cardholder Log In page for your state and program.
- Enter the 16-digit EBT card number without spaces, then select Login.
- If the portal displays PIN Select, choose Select your PIN and follow the prompts shown on screen.
- If PIN Select does not appear, or the page asks for information or actions that do not match your issuer’s instructions, stop and contact the issuing agency for the supported method.
The ebtEDGE help page documents the transition from card-number login to PIN Select, but does not establish a universal PIN format or a fixed sequence of prompts after you choose the option. What to do if your state uses another PIN method
ebtEDGE administrative documentation lists several possible methods. Availability depends on the state; the documentation says ARU and POS options appear only where a state uses them.

These descriptions come from ebtEDGE’s administrative PIN method field documentation. Because it is not a cardholder-specific promise, confirm the actual route with your issuer.

Reset an existing PIN in the documented portal workflow
If your state’s existing Cardholder Portal supports the documented two-step validation process, open the portal’s PIN Select tab. That help workflow asks you to enter your date of birth in mm/dd/yyyy format, Social Security number, a new PIN, and the new PIN again for confirmation. Select Update; a success message appears if the reset succeeds.
This describes the fields in that help workflow, not a universal reset method. If your portal does not offer those fields or the reset fails, contact your issuing agency rather than trying an unverified route. See ebtEDGE’s two-step PIN validation instructions.

Protect your card details and PIN
- Keep your PIN private. The ebtEDGE login help states: “Agency staff should never ask a client for their PIN.”
- Do not confuse portal sign-in verification with your EBT PIN. A vendor guide released in September 2024 says ebtEDGE portal and mobile-app sign-in uses a User ID, password, and a one-time PIN delivered by text or email; it also documents challenge questions as an alternative to receiving a code. Those are sign-in security steps, not instructions for selecting your EBT card PIN.
- For portal issues, the guide lists [email protected]. It says to include your portal User ID, last four card digits, issuing state, and name on the card. Do not send your EBT PIN.
- For activation or a PIN method that differs from the portal help, contact the agency or card support channel for the state that issued your card.
