Activate a Green Dot card through Green Dot’s official website, mobile app, or phone line, then sign in through its official login page. The details requested vary by card type. Use only Green Dot’s official channels or the phone number printed on your card when entering card or identity information.
Activate your Green Dot card
Green Dot lists three activation routes: its activation website, the Green Dot app, and a phone line. Choose the route that matches your card and the access you have.

Green Dot says the card can be used after successful activation. The information requested depends on how you received the card.
Follow the instructions for your card type
Chip-enabled card received in the mail
Sign in at GreenDot.com or in the app and choose “Activate card,” or call (866) 795-7605. Green Dot says this process asks for the card number, expiration date, and three-digit security code. See Green Dot’s mailed-card activation guidance.

Temporary card purchased at a store
Use the app or GreenDot.com/activate. Green Dot’s instructions list your name, card number, expiration date, security code, mobile number, address, date of birth, and Social Security number, and ask you to create a username and password. Green Dot says it mails a chip-enabled personalized card to the address you provide. Its instructions also state that online access and identity verification, including a Social Security number, are required to open an account; mobile and email verification and the app are required for all features. Temporary card from a financial service center
Green Dot’s general activation instructions exclude temporary cards obtained at a financial service center, such as a check-cashing, payday-loan, or money-transfer location. Do not assume the store-card procedure applies to those cards; follow the instructions provided with the card or contact the support number printed on it.

Log in or recover your online access
Use Green Dot’s official login page, which provides fields for User ID and password. It also links to options for creating an online user ID or recovering a forgotten user ID or password. To avoid lookalike sites, navigate from Green Dot’s official website or type its domain yourself before signing in.
Never post or send your card number, security code, password, or Social Security number in an article comment or an unverified form. Enter sensitive details only in Green Dot’s official website or app, or provide them through the official phone channel.

If card activation does not work
- Check that the personal information you entered is accurate.
- Use your current residential address, email address, and phone number.
- If the issue continues, call the customer-support number printed on the back of your card.
