Timo Nausch’s German-language photography site brings together photography lessons, equipment reviews, and comparisons. In a November 2023 interview, he said he chose Squarespace because it was approachable for someone with little website-building experience—and that its limits became frustrating when he needed features the editor did not offer. His account explains the choice at that time; it does not establish what platform or plan he uses today.

What Nausch’s site offers

Nausch’s site is organized around three broad kinds of content: learning photography, tests and reviews, and comparisons and ideas. Its learning material covers subjects including street photography, composition, sharpness, exposure, and Lightroom. The site describes this section as a place for people who want to learn photography; that is its own description, not an independent assessment of the lessons. Timo Nausch’s homepage and learning section show those categories, with learning-section listings dated as recently as March 2026.

Gear content serves a different reader need. The site says its tests of cameras, lenses, and accessories are intended to help people choose equipment without unnecessary spending. It also publishes comparisons and practical ideas, including the German-titled “Apsc vs Vollformat in 2025 – Was ist besser?” (“APS-C vs full frame in 2025 — which is better?”), “Nutzt du die korrekte ISO für deine Kamera?” (“Are you using the correct ISO for your camera?”), and “Die Beste Objektiv Kombination um Streetfotografie zu lernen” (“The best lens combination for learning street photography”). These examples show how the site connects instruction with the decisions photographers make about technique and gear.

The current site also lists a review of the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 II lens. That listing alone does not establish mount compatibility or mean the site endorses the lens.

Why he said he chose Squarespace

Nausch started his German-language photography site in 2019, according to an interview published by Website Builder Expert on November 8, 2023. He said he had learned photography through English-language material because he found it better and easier to understand, and wanted to contribute high-quality photography information in German. As he put it: “I taught myself photography with English content as it was simply better and more understandable.”

In that interview, he described himself as having little experience with websites and hosting when he began. He said Squarespace appealed because photographers he knew used it, and because he could build and experiment with the site before making it live. He praised the ease of setup and drag-and-drop editing. Those are his observations from that period, not a platform comparison or a claim that Squarespace is the best fit for every photography educator. Read the November 2023 interview.

Where the platform felt limiting

The same interview gives an important counterpoint to the ease-of-use story: Nausch said the editor became limiting when he needed a feature that was not available. He also said he tried a shop-enabled plan, found its features too limiting for his needs, and returned to a cheaper Basic plan. This describes his own experience as reported in November 2023; it does not establish his current plan, current costs, or present-day view of Squarespace’s commerce features.

For a photographer educator considering a website builder, his experience highlights a practical trade-off. A simple editor can make it easier to launch and publish without much technical background, but a creator who needs specific commerce, layout, or publishing functions should verify those capabilities before committing. Nausch’s interview does not provide a systematic comparison with other platforms.

How Squarespace’s features relate to an educational photography site

Squarespace’s official photographer guide, last updated July 16, 2026, describes tools for image galleries, portfolio pages, blogs, newsletters, and client information. It also describes options for placing blog, course, and video pages behind paywalls. Those feature categories map to common needs for a photography educator: showcasing images, publishing lessons, communicating with readers, and potentially charging for learning material. The guide describes general Squarespace capabilities; it does not show which tools Nausch currently uses or whether his site has paid content. See Squarespace’s photographer guide.

What the interview’s audience figures do—and don’t—show

Website Builder Expert’s November 2023 interview reported that Nausch said his traffic had risen by approximately 325% over five months and reached the low five figures per month, according to Google Search Console. These are historical, self-reported figures: they were not independently audited, the interview does not specify a more precise monthly number, and they are not a current readership measure. They indicate what Nausch reported at the time, not a guarantee of results for another site.

What photographers can take from his approach

  • Start with the reader’s learning path. Nausch’s site pairs foundational topics such as exposure and composition with more applied subjects, including street photography and gear comparisons.
  • Keep education and equipment advice distinct but connected. Lessons can help readers build skills, while reviews and comparisons address what equipment may suit their needs.
  • Test the publishing and commerce requirements early. His 2023 account shows that ease of launch does not guarantee that an editor or shop feature set will meet every later need.
  • Treat platform capability as a checklist, not proof of a particular setup. Squarespace’s guide lists relevant tools, but neither it nor the interview establishes Nausch’s current platform configuration.
