What began as a 2017 North American effort to help employees use Salesforce expanded into a broader digital-adoption program connecting onboarding, training, change management and support.
How Schneider Electric’s WalkMe program developed
Schneider Electric began deploying WalkMe in 2017 to help North American employees use Salesforce. The company later extended it regionally into HR and procurement applications, including SAP and Coupa. In 2021, a senior vice president at its Digital Technology Center encouraged a global scale-up. César Guerra, the platform strategy and product owner, told ITPro that the effort required staff, budget and leadership support.
The rollout has not been uniform across the company. ITPro reported on 2 April 2026 that Schneider Electric’s decentralized business units manage their own budgets, which can make software adoption proceed in stages. At that time, WalkMe was enabled in two of the company’s largest SAP programs, including manufacturing.
How WalkMe supports new hires and existing employees
Role-specific onboarding tasks
New employees receive tasks tailored to their roles to help them learn the company’s SaaS tools. Schneider Electric uses Active Directory information to personalize guidance, including the employee’s name and role. The aim is to put instructions in the application and workflow where the employee needs them, rather than relying only on separate training.

Feedback that can refine guidance
After completing a guided task, employees can answer a survey about what worked, what did not, and whether they know a better way to complete it. The team can use those responses to revise its advice. This makes the onboarding content part of an ongoing feedback loop rather than a fixed set of instructions.
Support as software changes
WalkMe is also used to guide employees through new releases and evolving workflows in tools such as SAP S/4HANA and Salesforce. Experienced employees may receive automated workflows that remove unnecessary clicks or prefill information. Guerra described the audience as both new joiners and long-term users who need help as systems receive “constant releases,” new versions and innovation.

That persistent-support model reflects the way Schneider Electric frames the program. Guerra told ITPro: “At Schneider, we always put digital adoption at the center of our IT strategy, to connect learning, change management, digital adoption, and support as one team and one voice as standard,” He said the intended benefit is: “So employees can develop proficiency as the system evolves.”
What results Schneider Electric has reported
In ITPro’s 2 April 2026 interview, Guerra reported an 80% user engagement rate with new tools and a 60% reduction in support tickets linked to training. The report does not state the measurement period, calculation method, ticket baseline or methodology, so these are company-reported figures rather than independently verified results. The ticket reduction should not be read as proof that WalkMe alone caused the change.

A separate historical example appeared in a Schneider Electric team-authored WalkMe article. For North America during March–May 2020, it reported 53% more users, 3% less time in a quotation tool and 14% growth in order revenue compared with the previous year. The company attributed support for pandemic-period onboarding and new features to WalkMe; this vendor-published account is not an independent causal study.
How WalkMe fit into other software transitions
In a 2022 WalkMe account, Schneider Electric’s Head of IT, Employee Experience North America, Ian McLean, described using the platform during a transition from a 25-year-old homegrown application to a new web-based tool. He said: “WalkMe was instrumental in reducing the negative impact the transition had on users and enabled better communication to the organization regarding updates and changes.“ That deployment is historical context and is distinct from the 2017 Salesforce rollout.

McLean’s advice on deciding where to focus was: “Instead, find the most relevant issues.” The point is practical: guidance is more useful when it addresses the employee’s real friction points instead of attempting to explain every feature at once.

As of ITPro’s 2 April 2026 report, Schneider Electric was trialling WalkMe Learning Arc to automate and personalize training through its UNIFY program, which is intended to consolidate disparate ERP systems under SAP S/4HANA. ITPro said UNIFY was then in its second year, had a planned six-year timeline, and that the pilot was expected eventually to encompass 50,000 users globally. Those are plans reported at that date, not evidence that the pilot or global deployment has since been completed.

Schneider Electric was also using SAP Enable Now for learning content and simulations while preparing for SAP S/4HANA adoption. WalkMe therefore sits within a wider learning and change-management effort rather than replacing every other training tool.
Quick Recap
What this case shows about enterprise onboarding
- Onboarding can continue after an employee’s first weeks when software, processes and workflows keep changing.
- Role-based prompts and tasks can make in-app guidance more relevant than generic instructions.
- Feedback from employees can help teams improve guidance, while workflow automation may reduce routine steps for experienced users.
- Reported performance figures need context: Schneider Electric’s 80% engagement and 60% ticket reduction were published without measurement details in the ITPro account.
- Decentralized budgets and staged software rollouts can make company-wide adoption a multi-year effort rather than a single launch.
