It is not predictable cash income: the app may run customer workloads, share bandwidth where available, or fall back to cryptocurrency mining, and each depends on different hardware, network conditions, and demand. You can redeem balance for selected rewards through Salad’s storefront, with options varying by region.
How Salad turns an idle PC into rewards
Salad describes its service as a two-sided network: PC owners run the desktop app and make idle computing resources available, while businesses deploy containerized workloads to the network. Salad’s overview describes users as earning rewards when their PCs are idle: Salad overview.
To begin, install Salad, sign in, complete the machine setup, review workload preferences, and select “Chop Now.” Setup may include allowing Salad through antivirus software and installing Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). Salad says the app is intended to run while you are away from the PC, with other heavy applications closed. See the getting-started guide and quickstart guide for the current steps.
What work can Salad run?
The available workload is not a setting that guarantees a particular job. Salad’s app can use container workloads, bandwidth sharing, and GPU mining, depending on your machine, location, configuration, and current demand. The company’s workload explanation describes these paths.

Salad’s support articles explain how workloads earn balance and how bandwidth sharing works. A workload may be unavailable even when your PC is technically capable of running it.
Check whether your PC and connection fit
Compatibility differs by workload and may change as Salad updates its network. Its compatibility guide says container workloads currently support newer NVIDIA GPUs and recommends 8 GB of VRAM; it lists the RTX 4060 as one example. The listed minimum container resources include 8 GB of RAM and 70 GB of free storage, plus a 15 Mbps upload/download connection.

- Mining: Salad describes support for many recent dedicated GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD, with exceptions.
- CPU workloads: Support depends on 64-bit x86 hardware and virtualization.
- Bandwidth sharing: Check regional eligibility, and use Salad’s stated network benchmarks of at least 15 Mbps upload and download and latency below 100 ms as a guide.
Check the current compatibility page and the app’s machine assessment before relying on a specific workload. An RTX 4060 is an example of a supported card, not a promise of a job or reward.
How predictable are Salad rewards?
Salad does not guarantee a steady schedule of container jobs. Its support guidance says rewards can depend on GPU or CPU capability, job availability, bandwidth speed, crypto-market conditions when mining is enabled, and how long the app runs. The earnings FAQ explains these factors.

Salad’s live earning-rate page reports results for the preceding seven days. Its methodology includes all hours machines were chopping, including hours when no container job was running; Salad says the middle half of machines is a more typical range than the average, which can be pulled upward by a small number of high earners. The published results are based on machines averaging at least four chopping hours per day and exclude projections. Because the page changes over time, check its current, dated figures rather than treating an old rate as a forecast.
There is no reliable payback calculation here for buying or upgrading hardware. A machine’s capability can affect its opportunities, but actual work depends on variable demand. Before considering any purchase, account for the hardware cost, electricity price, power draw, and how often the PC would run; the available Salad guidance does not establish a guaranteed return.

How to redeem Salad Balance
Salad describes Balance as a reward balance for its storefront, rather than a guaranteed cash payment. Its reward guide lists options such as gift cards, game codes, subscriptions, PayPal, and prepaid Visa or Mastercard. Salad’s getting-started guide also gives Amazon gift cards as an example.
Available options depend on region and what is listed in the storefront when you redeem. Check the item and its terms before spending balance: Salad says completed reward purchases are not refundable.

What to know before leaving Salad running
- Use an idle PC and close other demanding applications, as Salad recommends.
- Confirm hardware, storage, virtualization, network, and regional eligibility for the workload you expect to use.
- Expect availability to change; container demand is not continuous, bandwidth sharing is region-limited, and mining rewards vary with crypto-market conditions.
- Assess the economics using your own electricity rate, PC power draw, and operating hours. Salad’s published workload descriptions do not establish a personal net-earnings estimate or hardware-upgrade payback.
- Verify the reward and regional availability in the storefront before redeeming.
Salad’s overview page also displays company-reported figures of “190+ countries with nodes,” “450,000+ GPUs have contributed compute,” and “$7M+ paid out to GPU owners.” These are figures shown by Salad, not independently audited earnings data or a forecast for an individual PC.
