There is a historical figure, but it should not be mistaken for a current performance average: Ryanair Holdings plc’s fiscal 2010 annual report reported an average scheduled turnaround of approximately 25 minutes. How passenger flow and ground handling fit together
Pre-boarding can make passengers ready while the arriving aircraft is still approaching or being processed. The European Commission has noted that boarding and deboarding methods, seating practices, and airport congestion can affect turnaround time. That helps explain why passenger-flow management matters, but neither the airline’s public material nor the Commission decision gives a reliable minute-by-minute schedule for each task. Ryanair’s Operations department includes Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Inflight, and the Operations Control Centre. The airline says its ground handlers work under both self-handling and third-party handling arrangements. A Ryanair Dublin ground-handling job listing describes duties including loading and unloading baggage and cargo, moving baggage by vehicle, helping with boarding, marshalling aircraft, and operating vehicles for pushback, water, lavatory service, and de-icing. Why some airports make a short turn easier
Airport conditions influence what can be achieved. Ryanair’s FY2010 annual report said secondary and regional airports are generally less congested and can offer faster turnarounds and lower handling costs. The European Commission likewise identified less-congested secondary airports, along with Ryanair’s passenger boarding and seating management, as factors contributing to faster turns. These are the airline’s stated commercial reasons for the approach; the available sources do not quantify current savings attributable specifically to the 25-minute target. Where electric turnaround equipment is used
Ryanair has announced electric turnaround equipment with handling partners at specific locations, not across every operation. In a 2021 announcement, the airline described a process at eleven airports using equipment including an electric baggage tractor, belt loader, passenger steps, ground power, and pushback tractor. Ryanair has also described electric turnarounds with Azul at airports in Spain and with Menzies Aviation at Amsterdam Schiphol, Gothenburg Landvetter, and Oslo.
