How Richard Walker Built York Solutions: Relationships, Technology and Talent

York Solutions CEO Richard Walker credits long-term relationships and trust with helping build the technology consulting and talent company. The published history outlines its programs and expansion, but does not establish audited revenue or settle the company’s founding date.

Richard Walker says York Solutions grew by turning useful professional relationships into long-term client trust. In a July 19, 2024 interview, the company’s CEO described a relationship-led approach to technology consulting and talent solutions—not a verified account of audited, multi-million-dollar revenue. York’s own history documents its programs and expansion, but its founding dates conflict and its published growth claims are not backed there by financial statements.

Walker’s business-building principle: earn trust before you need the work

“York Solutions was built on what I like to call Relationship Equity,” Walker told TechBullion in 2024. He says the idea is to invest in professional relationships by understanding technology leaders’ needs and providing value, rather than treating each client engagement as a one-off transaction. In his account, leaders who had worked with him over time later called York when they needed IT resources.

That is Walker’s explanation of how relationships helped the company develop business; the interview does not independently establish that they caused its growth. Still, the underlying business lesson is concrete: a network becomes commercially useful when people have a reason to trust your judgment and a record of your follow-through.

The “two Teds” story

Walker illustrates the point with an anecdote about two technically capable executive candidates. One, he says, dismissed relationship-building; the other spent a year learning what senior executives needed and offering value. Walker’s takeaway is that technical ability alone may not earn the trust and respect that open leadership opportunities. This is an example he recounts in the interview, not an independently verified case study.

Walker’s book, Relationship Equity, develops the theme through real-life stories, according to the interview. York Solutions announced its publication with Forbes Books on October 10, 2023. These sources establish the book and its subject, but not its current retail availability, format or price. York’s announcement via PR Newswire.

What York Solutions does

Walker describes York’s work as solving business problems with technology. The company’s current description and history present a mix of technology solutions and talent services, including onshore and nearshore staffing. The company says it helps clients assess and implement artificial intelligence and machine learning for operational efficiency and new products. Walker’s caution is to pursue a practical outcome rather than adopt a technology simply because it is fashionable: “But, AI for the sake of AI isn’t worth a shiny, damn penny.”

Walker also says York emphasizes defined milestones, accountability and transparent communication. These are the CEO’s descriptions of the company’s approach, not independently measured service outcomes.

Talent and professional-development programs

  • Think IT: York says the program offers events, roundtables and professional development for technology leaders. The company’s current history page describes a national network of over 5,000 members; Walker separately said in the 2024 interview that it had over six thousand “as I write this.” Those are company and interview statements from different dates, not a reconciled current count.
  • Emerging Talent: York says this program trains high-potential people for technology roles and delivers hundreds of professionals annually. The company dates its launch to 2009, when it was formerly known as Barriers to Entry/B2E.
  • Link to Leadership: York dates this soft-skills program, connected with senior technology leaders, to 2010.

These programs show that York’s account of its business extends beyond filling an immediate technology role: it also describes building professional networks and developing talent. Their descriptions and output figures are York’s own claims.

York’s timeline—and a founding-date discrepancy

York’s company-authored history gives two different starting points: it says Bill Carr set out in 1988 to connect technology talent with Fortune 500 companies, while also labeling 1995 “York Solutions Founded.” It does not reconcile those dates, so neither should be presented as an uncontested founding year. The page says Walker joined as a partner in 1998 to help grow the Chicago headquarters and that York opened a Minnesota office in 2000.

Year What York’s history says
1988 Bill Carr set out to connect technology talent with Fortune 500 companies.
1995 The history page labels this “York Solutions Founded.”
1998 Walker joined as a partner to help grow the Chicago headquarters.
2000 York opened a Minnesota office.
2009 York says it began Think IT and launched Emerging Talent, then called Barriers to Entry/B2E.
2010 York dates Link to Leadership to this year.
2021 York says it formed a national sales team and a Technology Solutions Group.
2024–2025 York says its offshore and nearshore capabilities expanded in 2024 and a capabilities center opened in India in 2025.

The timeline is based on York’s own history page, not an independent corporate-history review. Its account gives a useful outline of the company’s development, but the 1988 and 1995 entries leave the precise founding point unresolved.

What the “multi-million dollar” claim establishes—and what it doesn’t

The interview and York’s history support a profile of a company that offers technology consulting and talent solutions and has described multiple programs and geographic expansions. They do not provide an audited revenue amount that verifies the title’s “multi-million dollar” wording. York says its year-end revenue doubled between 2015 and 2023, but the company history page supplies no financial statements alongside that claim. It should therefore be treated as company-reported growth, not independently confirmed financial performance.

Walker’s biography on York’s website says he grew up in Settle, England, began as a bricklaying apprentice, moved to the United States in 1994, and shifted into IT recruiting in St. Louis before co-founding York Solutions. That background supplies context for his path into the industry, while the available company and interview accounts do not offer audited figures to quantify the business he helped build.

Sources and perspective

The central account comes from a July 19, 2024 TechBullion interview by Angela Scott-Briggs. York Solutions’ company history and Walker biography add the company’s own timeline, program descriptions and background. The interview is a CEO’s account; the company pages are company-authored. Neither source provides independent validation of the causal story behind York’s growth or audited revenue figures.
