There is no reliable, like-for-like public ranking of Southampton owner Dragan Šolak’s personal wealth against the owners of the Championship’s wealthiest clubs. Southampton identifies him as the club’s ultimate beneficial owner, but company accounts, club revenue and spending are not measures of an owner’s personal net worth.
Who owns Southampton FC?
Southampton FC says the club is 100% owned by St Mary’s Football Group Ltd. Sport Republic is the group’s majority owner, while Katharina Liebherr retains a minority stake. The club identifies Dragan Šolak as Southampton’s ultimate beneficial owner. It also describes him as Sport Republic’s lead investor and chairman, and as Southampton FC’s chairman. This is the ownership chain—not a statement that Šolak personally owns every share in the club. His role as ultimate beneficial owner and Sport Republic’s lead investor should not be conflated with the club’s immediate corporate owner.
How rich is Dragan Šolak?
The available public information does not establish a dependable figure for Šolak’s personal net worth that can be compared fairly with estimates for other current Championship owners. Personal net worth means an individual’s assets minus liabilities; for private owners, estimates can vary, rely on incomplete disclosures and become outdated. A number without a clear estimator, date and method would suggest more certainty than the evidence supports.

Southampton’s corporate accounts provide a different kind of evidence. Companies House lists Sport Republic Holding Ltd. group accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025, filed on 11 April 2026. Those accounts can inform readers about the group’s disclosed corporate financial position, but a company’s assets, debts or results do not by themselves establish its investor’s personal wealth. Can Southampton be ranked against the Championship’s richest owners?
Not on the evidence available here. The comparison has to keep three separate measures apart:

- Ownership and control: the person or entity that owns or controls the club, directly or through companies. Southampton’s disclosed structure identifies Sport Republic as majority owner and Šolak as ultimate beneficial owner.
- Club finances and spending capacity: figures such as revenue, debt, profit or loss, owner funding and league spending rules. They describe a football business and its constraints, not automatically the private wealth of its owner.
FourFourTwo’s 2026 rich list illustrates the limitations of using published estimates as a league-wide ranking. It says its list relies on publicly available figures and, where possible, Forbes valuations from early December. The article estimates Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds at around £300 million and says an estimated £2.6 billion was needed to enter the list. What club accounts can—and cannot—tell you
Club results show the financial performance of a club over a defined period. They do not reveal an owner’s total personal assets or liabilities. Burnley FC’s official accounts report turnover of £71.7 million and a post-tax loss of £28.5 million for the year ended 31 July 2025. Likewise, club revenue is not the same as the funds an owner can or will put into a team. Spending capacity also depends on the club’s financial position, owner funding and the competition rules in force.
How EFL rules affect owners’ spending power
The EFL announced that Championship Squad Cost Rules will replace Profitability and Sustainability rules from the 2026/27 season. Under the announced framework, the Squad Cost Rules allowance is 85% of income, with a flexible equity top-up allowance of £33 million across three years and a maximum of £15 million in one season. What the comparison supports
The evidence supports a clear account of Southampton’s ownership structure, the existence of Sport Republic’s latest listed group accounts and selected club-level financial figures. It does not support a precise personal-net-worth figure for Šolak or a definitive ranking of him against all current Championship owners. Treat any published ranking as an attributed estimate with its own date and method—not as a settled comparison of private fortunes.
