How rich are Birmingham City’s owners?
Available reporting does not establish a current personal net-worth figure for Birmingham City’s owners or for chairman Tom Wagner. BBC Sport reported on 7 November 2025 that Shelby Companies Limited (SCL), a subsidiary of Knighthead Capital Management co-founded by Wagner, completed its takeover and controlled 96.64% of Birmingham City Limited. That is a company ownership stake, not a personal wealth estimate.
The club said SCL would “will continue to be solely responsible for all the operations of the club”, as quoted by BBC Sport. The statement describes responsibility for operating the club; it does not disclose how much Wagner personally owns, what his stake is worth, or how wealthy other investors are.
Ownership is not the same as personal net worth
A controlling company’s shareholding cannot be converted directly into an owner’s net worth. The stake belongs to SCL, while the value of any individual investor’s interest and their other assets and liabilities are separate questions. The reported 96.64% therefore identifies corporate control, but does not support a personal fortune estimate.

What does the £16m Brighton star claim mean?
The phrase appears to refer to Ibrahim Osman. Sportupdate.co.uk reported on 20 January 2026 that the Brighton winger arrived at Birmingham on loan and described £16 million as Brighton’s reported cost of signing him. The report does not establish that Birmingham paid £16 million, and the fee was not independently confirmed in the material available.
Read the figure as a reported prior Brighton signing cost, attributed to Sportupdate.co.uk, rather than as a confirmed fee or Birmingham purchase. A loan is distinct from a permanent transfer. Player status can change, so the January report should not be treated as confirmation of Osman’s current squad status.

What do Birmingham’s commercial deals tell us?
Commercial agreements can indicate revenue for the club, but they do not reveal the owners’ personal wealth. In January 2024, BBC Sport described the St Andrew’s@Knighthead Park naming-rights agreement as multi-million-pound and multi-year. It said the value depended on an annual sponsorship fee and bonuses linked to men’s first-team performance and club-wide social-media performance. The report did not give an exact total contract value. BBC Sport’s account of the deal is evidence of a club sponsorship arrangement, not a valuation of an owner’s assets.
Birmingham’s 2024/25 Review of the Year also records a Delta Air Lines partnership and an extension of the principal club-partner and sponsorship agreement with UNDEFEATED. Those are club commercial relationships; neither establishes a personal net-worth figure for an owner.

What can—and can’t—be concluded from the figures?
- 96.64%: the stake in Birmingham City Limited controlled by SCL, as reported by BBC Sport in November 2025.
- £16 million: a reported Brighton signing cost for Osman, attributed to Sportupdate.co.uk in January 2026; it is not established as a Birmingham transfer fee.
- “Multi-million pound”: BBC Sport’s description of the St Andrew’s naming-rights deal; the report did not state a precise contract total.
These figures concern different things—company ownership, a reported player fee and club sponsorship revenue. None provides a sound basis for calculating how rich Birmingham City’s owners are.
