Short answer: update your restaurant’s GSTIN and registration information only through the authenticated partner account or current official support route for the delivery platform. Before submitting anything, verify the details against your GST registration records. Do not change a tax rate merely to match a platform fee or another restaurant’s invoice.
For India, the Ministry of Finance stated in a Rajya Sabha answer dated 1 April 2025 that restaurant services supplied outside “specified premises” attract 5% GST without input tax credit whether sold directly or through electronic commerce operators (ECOs) such as Swiggy and Zomato. That statement does not establish the button-by-button process for editing a partner profile, and it does not apply automatically to every premises classification or every charge shown on a customer order.

What you can and cannot change in a delivery-platform account
A partner-account edit is an administrative correction. It should make the platform’s records agree with your actual GST registration status, legal name, GSTIN and business details. It is not, by itself, a legal election of a GST rate.
The public material reviewed for this article confirms that Swiggy has an official Partner App entry point, but that public page requires JavaScript and does not expose a readable GST-editing workflow. The available official pages likewise do not establish the current Zomato menu names, document list, verification timeline or a guaranteed support path. Platform interfaces can change by account, city and version.

Consequently, the safest process is to use the partner account you already operate, find its current tax-details or profile-support route, submit accurate information in the authenticated flow and preserve the resulting confirmation. Treat the exact labels and upload requirements as platform-specific instructions that must be read in the live account, not as fixed steps that can be inferred from a public marketing page.
Which GST treatment applies to an app order?
The central distinction is between the restaurant’s food service and other supplies connected with the order. The Ministry of Finance’s 1 April 2025 answer gives the following treatment for restaurant services outside specified premises:
| Supply or charge | Rate or treatment stated by the government source | What the statement means for a restaurant |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurant service outside specified premises, supplied directly | 5% GST without input tax credit | The rate applies to the restaurant service described in the answer, subject to the business’s actual classification. |
| Restaurant service outside specified premises, supplied through an ECO such as Swiggy or Zomato | 5% GST without input tax credit | Using an app does not, by itself, turn that restaurant service into a different rate under the cited statement. |
| Other services provided by food-delivery apps, including platform services | 18% GST | A platform’s service charge is a separate category from the restaurant’s food service. |
| Local-delivery service | 18% in the government FAQ cited, with liability varying by registration and ECO involvement | Do not assume that a local-delivery line is the same supply as the restaurant’s food. |
The 5% statement is expressly limited to restaurant services other than those located at specified premises. It is not a universal instruction to set every restaurant, every outlet or every order component to 5%. The Ministry also reported that the GST Council had recommended further examination of the rate applicable to delivery of food in relation to app orders. If your premises classification or supply model is unusual, confirm the current treatment against the applicable notification or a qualified GST professional.

Restaurant food service
The meal or other restaurant service supplied by your establishment is one supply. Whether the 5% without-ITC treatment applies depends on the conditions described by the government, including the “outside specified premises” qualification.

Platform service
The Ministry’s answer separately identifies services provided by food-delivery apps, such as platform services, at 18%. A platform deduction, subscription, commission or other service line should not be treated as evidence that the restaurant’s own food-service rate is wrong.
Local delivery
Separate government FAQ material states that local-delivery services are taxed at 18%, while responsibility for tax depends on factors such as supplier registration and whether the service is supplied through an ECO. The answer does not provide a complete bill-component map for every Swiggy or Zomato order, so do not infer one from a customer-facing total.
Tax collection and reporting background
A GST Council agenda note describes food aggregators such as Swiggy and Zomato as registered under Section 52 as tax collectors at source and discusses reconciliation and reporting concerns. That is historical compliance context, not a current instruction to select a particular profile option or rate in a restaurant account.

- Identify the outlet or outlets covered by the partner account. A brand name, trade name and legal entity name may not be identical.
- Confirm whether the account is for a single registered person, a company, a partnership or another entity, and use the details belonging to that entity.
- Review whether the relevant premises fall within the “specified premises” issue discussed in the Ministry’s answer. Do not assume that a hotel, event venue or other special setting has the same treatment as an ordinary restaurant outside specified premises.
- Keep a dated copy of the information you intend to submit and of the existing profile, if the platform allows you to view or download it.
- Decide what is actually wrong: a misspelled legal name, a changed GSTIN, a registration-status change, an outlet mapping issue or a question about a tax line. Different problems may require different support routes.
Safe workflow for updating a restaurant partner profile
The sequence below is operational guidance. It is deliberately generic because the official public pages do not verify current button names or document requirements inside either platform.
- Sign in through the official partner channel. Use the partner application or authenticated partner website that your business already uses. Avoid sending GST records through an unsolicited email, social-media message or a third-party form.
- Open the current account, profile or tax-details area. Look for the live account’s option for business information, tax information, registration details or partner support. The wording may differ between app versions and account types.
- Choose the issue that matches the facts. If the GSTIN changed, state that it changed. If the legal name is incorrect, report a name correction. Do not describe a rate dispute as a profile correction unless the platform specifically asks you to do so.
- Enter the records exactly as registered. Copy the GSTIN and legal name from the registration record. Check every character before submission; one incorrect digit can associate transactions with the wrong taxpayer.
- Upload only documents requested inside the authenticated flow. The public sources do not establish a universal document list. Follow the live platform instruction for your account and redact unrelated personal information where the platform permits it.
- Submit and save the acknowledgement. Record the ticket number, submission date, screenshots and any confirmation email or in-app message. Do not assume that a draft edit has taken effect.
- Check the account after the platform responds. Confirm that the displayed legal name, GSTIN and outlet association are correct. If the platform rejects the change, ask what field is inconsistent rather than repeatedly submitting the same data.
- Reconcile subsequent statements. Compare the next available order reports, tax invoices, settlement statements and deductions with your accounting records. Keep the date on which the change became effective and separate pre-change transactions from later ones.
How to handle common situations
The restaurant has obtained a GST registration
Update the profile to reflect the actual registration and retain the effective date. Do not backdate platform records or alter old invoices merely because a new GSTIN was added. Ask your accountant how the transition should be reported for the relevant tax period.
The GST registration has been cancelled or surrendered
Do not simply replace the GSTIN with a guessed “unregistered” selection. Confirm the cancellation or effective date in the GST records, then use the platform’s current support route to explain the change. The tax consequences of orders spanning the effective date require business-specific advice.
The legal entity changed but the outlet looks the same
A familiar restaurant name does not prove that the taxpayer is unchanged. If ownership moved from an individual to a company, partnership or another entity, submit the new entity’s details only after its registration records are in order. Keep contracts, settlement reports and accounting ledgers aligned with the entity that made the supply.

Several outlets share one brand
Map each outlet to the GST registration that actually covers it. Do not copy one location’s GSTIN into another location’s profile unless the registration and business structure genuinely cover both.
The customer bill shows a charge that looks like GST
First identify whether the line belongs to restaurant food, platform services or local delivery. The Ministry’s 5% statement for restaurant service and the separate 18% statements for platform or local-delivery services cannot be collapsed into one rate. If the bill cannot be separated from the available report, ask the platform for a component-level statement and obtain professional advice before changing your profile.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.What not to do
- Do not select a lower or higher rate solely to make a settlement total match another restaurant’s account.
- Do not treat a platform commission or delivery fee as proof of the GST rate for the food service.
- Do not upload a certificate belonging to a different legal entity, outlet or state.
- Do not rely on an old screenshot or an unofficial tutorial as the current platform workflow.
- Do not assume that changing a profile automatically corrects invoices, returns, tax collected at source or prior settlement reports.
- Do not continue operating with a known mismatch while waiting for a convenient time to fix it; document the issue and escalate it through the authenticated channel.
Records to retain for reconciliation
Keep the submitted GST details, the platform acknowledgement, the effective date communicated by support and the first statements issued after the change. Match those records with your order register, invoices, credit notes, settlement amounts and GST returns. A simple change log should show:
- the field that changed;
- the old and new value, where lawful to retain;
- the date submitted and date accepted;
- the outlet and legal entity concerned;
- the order or settlement period affected; and
- the person who reviewed the reconciliation.
This evidence helps distinguish a profile-data problem from a classification or reporting problem. It also gives your tax adviser a clear timeline if transactions straddle a registration change.

When professional GST advice is necessary
Obtain advice before changing a rate or making a retrospective correction when the outlet is at a specified premises, the business has multiple registrations, an entity or ownership change occurred, registration status changed during a tax period, or the platform’s statement combines restaurant, platform and delivery lines. The Ministry’s answer gives the 5% treatment only for the described restaurant-service category and says the GST Council recommended further examination of app-related food delivery. Those qualifications matter.
A GST professional can also determine who is responsible for tax on a particular local-delivery service under the applicable registration and ECO conditions, and how the result should appear in returns. The platform’s support team can correct account data; it should not be treated as the final authority on your business’s legal classification.
What the public sources do not establish
As of the official material available for this article, there is no verified public, button-by-button guide that proves the current Swiggy or Zomato path for editing GSTIN, registration status or tax settings. There is also no established universal list of documents, verification period or guaranteed escalation channel. Use the authenticated partner account and its current official support instructions, and save the confirmation of whatever is changed.

Bottom line for restaurant operators
Keep the partner profile synchronized with the restaurant’s real GST registration records, but separate that housekeeping task from the legal decision about tax classification. For restaurant services outside specified premises, the Ministry of Finance stated on 1 April 2025 that the rate is 5% without input tax credit whether supplied directly or through an ECO such as Swiggy or Zomato. Platform services and local-delivery services can have separate 18% treatment under the cited government material. Verify the live account workflow, preserve the audit trail and obtain advice whenever the premises, entity, registration status or order components make the classification uncertain.
