Its pitch is more than rack space, but the exact cloud reach, capacity, support and contract terms depend on the facility and customer agreement.
What QTS means by hybrid cloud
Hybrid cloud combines infrastructure in a customer-controlled or colocation environment with public-cloud services. In QTS’s model, a customer may place equipment in a QTS facility and connect it to cloud providers, carriers, internet exchanges or other data centers. QTS also presents operational services and digital management tools as part of that environment.
QTS’s current solutions page describes a portfolio spanning multi-tenant and single-tenant data centers, full campuses, enterprise and hyperscale solutions, and federal environments. It also highlights connectivity and converged security. Those are QTS’s descriptions of its offer, not independent comparative rankings. QTS solutions
The company’s examples of hybrid solutions include gaming environments combining cloud, colocation and managed services, and retail environments integrating cloud and managed services with flexible data centers. These examples illustrate possible designs; they do not establish that every customer receives the same architecture or service scope.

What customers can colocate
QTS’s colocation brochure describes deployment options including cabinets, cages and private suites, with configurable power and support for deployment and troubleshooting. The brochure also discusses redundant power options and remote-hands services. Because it dates to 2021, customers should confirm which configurations, workflows and services are currently available at their chosen facility. QTS colocation brochure
Colocation can be useful when a business needs physical equipment near cloud or network connections while retaining control over some of its infrastructure. The decision still depends on practical details such as space, power density, expansion capacity, deployment timing and the division of operational responsibilities.

How QTS describes its cloud and network connections
QTS Switchboard materials describe virtual connections to AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud, as well as connections between QTS facilities and other network destinations. QTS presents a one-port, multiple-destination model with self-service provisioning. Its product sheet also describes internetConnect as a managed blended internet service. These descriptions do not by themselves confirm availability, port options, pricing or service terms at a particular site. QTS Switchboard product sheet
For a customer, the key question is not simply whether a provider names a cloud service. It is whether the specific facility can reach the required cloud region and endpoint, through a connection type and network design that meet the application’s needs. Ask for facility-specific details on bandwidth, route diversity, carriers, inter-facility connections and failover.

What the Lumen partnership adds to the positioning
On October 28, 2025, QTS announced an expanded strategic partnership with Lumen covering fiber deployment, Switchboard network-as-a-service and software-defined networking, connectivity fabric, and wavelength backbone infrastructure. The announcement also discussed cloud and AI on-ramps and planned connections to new QTS campuses. Treat those build-outs and expected benefits as announced intentions or company claims, not as proof that a particular route or service is already available to a customer. QTS announcement on its Lumen partnership
The release reported a 340,000-route-mile Lumen fiber backbone and described 400G+ cloud and AI on-ramp capacity. These are figures published by QTS in the 2025 announcement, not independently verified performance measures. QTS CTO Brent Bensten characterized Lumen as a premier partner for Switchboard networking technology, on-net solutions and cloud on-ramps; that statement is the company’s description of the relationship.
How to evaluate QTS for a hybrid-cloud deployment
Compare providers using requirements tied to the actual workload, rather than the broad label “hybrid cloud.” A useful evaluation should establish the following for the target facility and contract:
- Cloud reach: Which cloud providers, regions and endpoints can be reached, and through which direct or virtual connection products?
- Network design: What bandwidth options, carriers, route diversity, inter-facility paths and failover arrangements are available? Request facility-specific network documentation.
- Physical deployment: Which cabinets, cages or suites are available, what power density can be supported, and how can the deployment expand?
- Operations: What remote-hands coverage, provisioning workflow, telemetry, asset management, API access and support hours are included?
- Commercial and contractual terms: What are availability, lead times, pricing, service-level commitments and contract-flexibility provisions?
QTS’s public materials establish how the company frames its portfolio and products, but they do not settle customer-specific availability, pricing, lead time or service-level commitments. Obtain those details directly for the facility, connection and workload under consideration.
